yeh great feet, and great stamina, they looked very fit+ tough dogs I think, but may be mistaken, that the racing fell hounds are specifically bred for that sport and are becoming separate from the true fell hound? You ever been out with a fell pac Bird? Them hounds cover what is probably some of the toughest terrain this island has to offer! And by christ they can fly across it! f*****g great times! yes i think your right regards them hounds racing, i think they were bred for just that sport, the way the woman was talking to ( matt baker) about them. and the other fell

I would say they have feet that are second to none to.

Do you get them sat tight in cover mate? My terrier hunts like a fecking spaniel and often puts hares up within kicking distance! Might be worth getting someone with a spaniel out with you maybe. I like your land for the same reason you probably don't, looks good cover for a bit of proper hunting & flushing and dogs have to be up and at em.

You finding plenty to run Jiggy? Gotta say, I know lads say that the Lincs Fenns is the Mecca of hare coursing but the land you are running looks a lot more enjoyable to me!

Beaters day tomorrow lol ;-)
Born Hunter replied to air gun ant's topic in Driven, Walked Up, Rough Shooting
Meh, semantics! Everybody I know calls it beaters day. Ours is usually a quiet day. Only probably 4 or 5 of the beaters actually shoot, I used to but standing having birds driven over you does jack shit for me. Probably half of the syndicate guns turn up and make up the numbers with around 5 or 6 of us beating. Usually a good crack with a bag of 20-40 to round up the season. -
Did it when the other thread was posted. I always just make up an address.

Other lads making your local haunts hot........
Born Hunter replied to Born Hunter's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Of course they do. But then that wasn't really my point now. -
410 if you are only using for dispatch but 12 bore is more versatile as it can be used to cover holes in the case of a bolt or if you want to knock some cover through for a flush but still fine for close range dispatch.

Can't dissagree with that. There's f**k all you can do or should do but 'adapt'. -

Born Hunter replied to Born Hunter's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Very true, but do you really think that "I was just walking the dog and a hare got up infront of it officer" is gonna be accepted as an excuse? An excuse that wouldn't be at all needed if others that run your local spots had a bit more discretion and gave it a couple of weeks between runs to save attracting the attention of 'operation gallileo'. Plain clothed officers in unmarked cars FFS, anybody would think they were part of an anti terrorism sting! could they prove otherwise I'm not gonna be the test case! -

So you sorta know what it feels like then stabba? I kinda feel a c**t or a hypicrit for thinking these lads are wankers but they just don't give a shit, I used to just turn the other way and stay out of their way not wanting to be seen anywhere near them but now they are attracting this shit it pisses me off. I'm not a grass and basically can't do anything but still doesn't stop me feeling like somebody else is shitting on my doorstep. Just wondered if others can relate to this? -

I can accept and understand why it's done. You get caught with a dead hare and a lurcher and you might as well cuff ya self. But ffs at least make an effort to hide the evidence, don't just leave it by a public footpath or in the middle of a stubble field! -

Born Hunter replied to Born Hunter's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
That's not really the problem though Paulus, the problem is the local area is now patrolled by plain clothed officers in unmarked cars looking for lads with lurchers. The local landowners know me (I walk escaped stock back in and let them know of broken fences etc), most of the locals I don't want to know and keep myself to myself. Do you dare let the dog off the lead incase a hare pops up and you are seen due to the massively increased police presence? -
Channel 5 - The day After Tomorrow. The Royal Family have just died. Decent film even if they have been a bit liberal with the science.

Just looking to start a bit of discussion on what I consider a touchy subject......... So, what do you do when the land on your doorstep you have walked all your life starts getting hammered by lads driving in from else where especially week in week out starts causing unwanted attention from the authorities? It's not hard to understand why........... dead hares left where they were killed, lads in 3s 4s & 5s lined out walking the fields bold as ya like. Unfortunately discretion doesn't seem to enter their minds........ Trouble is, those of us that try to go about things with a

A well worded letter to Mrs Fernández de Kirchner
Born Hunter replied to Born Hunter's topic in General Talk
You'll be buying your own Island if they find as much as some are quoting! All the best with that, I mean that. Were you with the task force in 82 if you don't mind me asking? -
A well worded letter to Mrs Fernández de Kirchner
Born Hunter replied to Born Hunter's topic in General Talk
To my knowledge though it's not been proven to be there yet, or at least not in the quantities being thrown about. The geologists say there could be X recoverable barrels there but geologists are often wrong. Is it Rock hopper that have managed to find a commercially viable reservoir? I hope there are Billions of barrels to be recovered but there are no garuntees as of yet? -
new section for all you catty fanatics
Born Hunter replied to paulus's topic in Catapult & Slingshot Hunting
FFS Paulus, even I can hit a heap of manure! -
We have our own problems too. We have no driven large game hunting like you, all large game stalking is difficult to get into and it is illegal to hunt most thing with dogs................... can you beat that?

Great way of hunting! I really envy you guys on the continent.

do foxes lie up in the same place
Born Hunter replied to budharley's topic in Driven, Walked Up, Rough Shooting
In my experience you will rarely flush the same fox from the same place twice. Good holding spots will usually produce year after year but in any given season once you have put a fox out of a patch it usually decides to find somewhere else to lay up.
