Said it to a mate recently, some folks are gonna come out of this flush and some f****d. At the moment I'm doing fine (other than realising how much I hate my job ) if I don't get laid off and the pound doesn't hit parity with monopoly money then alls good. But I can't for the life of me believe that millions of people can be at home wanking off on 80% salary and it not have consequences that all of us will be expected to shoulder. Clarity to the consumer of welfare standards is lacking imo. Truth is most consumers don't want to spend an hour dredging through the internet to figure out if the stamp on their bacon fits with their conscience, so they just hope it does. A lot would happily, or begrudgingly, pay for the decent stuff if it was crystal clear in the shops. Not so much a money issue as it is an effort issue, at the consumer end that is.

Freedom comes at the expense of rights. A freedom is a protection from government, a right is the promise of a provision from government. I don't completely agree with Wilf regarding freedoms. I think freedoms have to be limited, I don't think a society that values justice and equality can cope with such responsibility. For the examples you gave. I value freedom, more than most would consider reasonable. But ideology and reality clash here. The limits on any freedom have to be judged based on the foundations and intentions of that freedom. I trust the consensus of the scientific community when I can't be arsed to do all the leg work myself. Banks, farming, politicians etc really don't factor into this for me.

Especially the one's who don't respond to vaccination and so can't be immunised. Herd immunity IS their immunisation. Vaccination isn't just an individual protection, it's protection for the whole of society. I really see this topic in the same bag as flat earth.

I'm hearing of shoots having a break for the season, either scaling back or not bothering at all with the expense given the uncertainty... That'll either lead to a lot of effort on vermin or very little I suppose as well as obviously freeing up estate permissions that might've been restricted normally. -
