al391 is a cracking gun. Ive had one for years - must be 10 years i reckon. They are easy to strip down and service - just requiring a clean up of the piston every 6 months. I used to put 500 cartridges through mine every weekend and never had any problems at all. Think ive only ever had 3 jams in my life with this gun. It will cycle very light 21g clay loads upto anything bigger without any problems. Mines the 30" one, and I find I can get on targets very quick with it. Minimum recoil with a 28g load, and with anything lighter you really cant feel much recoil at all. Price wise, they

Excellent! Unusual to see a female into the hunting side of things. It normally seems to be a male sort of thing. Ive tried in vain to persuade my missus to come shooting with me. Unfortunately she still thinks of bunnies as cute little things....

Ive got one and love it. Nice solid gun which feels a lot more expensive than it really is. These days you can pick up 2nd hand ones for a very reasonable price.

Looking on some of the for sale ads, .410 hushpowers nearly always are up for 200->250quid. Thats for the single barrel one, like the baikel for example. If you are talking about the pump action mossberg version like I have, then these seem to be a lot rarer - people never tend to sell them once they have one! They tend to be advertised for anywhere from 400->480quid if you can find one. New I think they are £525 last time I checked, so they hold their value well. Have you tried one out? I think you`ll actually be a bit disapointed with one compared to your PCP. I have both the .

Guests allowed at clay pigeon shoots??
jackinbox99 replied to 19powell90's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Yep all depends on the ground. I know mine doesnt even check that you are a registered license holder when you turn up. I often take non-licensed friends with me shooting but of course I supervise them and make sure they are okay. -
First id workout what i want to use the gun for the most. If your doing clays the most, game shooting or pigeon shooting. For clays / pigeon id go for a semi auto, they are ideal for that. If your going to be doing game shooting, then some shoots frown upon a semi. Brand wise, something like beretta or benelli or browning etc... will all hold their value well. Thats not to say they are any better than a cheaper brand, but price wise, they just hold their value better. If you buy 2nd hand, then you`ll have a wider choice and a lot of that depreciation will have happened. If you need a semi

Guns stolen in Cambridgeshire area.
jackinbox99 replied to jackinbox99's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
groan! -
http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/Home/Guns-stolen-during-broad-daylight-burglaries-16082011.htm All seems a bit strange to me, apparently they were unprepared, so they broke through a patio door with a garden hoe, and yet managed to nick a load of shotguns from a locked cabinet?

snapped my shotgun stock info needed please
jackinbox99 replied to 19powell90's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I bet you were well angry with yourself! Lanbers are quite popular guns, id be tempted to get a replacement stock, must be loads out there somewhere. -
"Next day I saw her in her car and gave her the finger and she rang the Livery owner again saying I was frightening her " Love it!!!! Dont you just love people like that. The worrying thing is my missus is getting like that now though. She doesnt like the idea of me shooting fluffy cute little bunnies at all. I think she`d rather I sneak out and have an affair with some bird in the evenings rather than shoot animals.

Farmers are naturally very suspicious people from my experience. I guess around my way they get a lot of thieves scouting around for scrap metal and bits they can nick. Best way I found was through word of mouth. Friend of a friend who knows a farmer etc etc. Once you get the one, you have a head start. Speak to the land owner of the permission you have, see if any of his mates or associates have a need for you. You`ll be much more likely to get permission through his recommendation than if you approached the same farmers directly.

Excellent result. You`ll have a good few results now as I expect the bunnies there arent used to lamping. Once they realise, things will be a bit harder for you. I had to relate to the "going into the shop to buy pellets" and buying a lot more. Last gunshop I wandered in to was for the same reason and I ended up spending about 600quid on a new shotgun. lol.... My record though has to be popping into my local motorbike shop to buy a 5quid oil filter and walking out with a £1400 titanium race exhaust system. Oooooops!! As long as the missus never finds out!

Prices have shot up this last few years. I used to buy 1000 28g 7.5 for about 90-100quid from my local shop. Last time I popped in there (last year i think) they were 160quid for 1000. To be honest, I find local shops, or even my local clay ground is the cheapest for cartridges. You can order some online, but you`d have to order 10,000 to get them for a good price.

Worried farmer on the phone........

What a result! And that "caught in the act" picture is priceless!!!! Excellent! -
Lay a Dead rabbit with guts hanging out somewhere where they can see it then hide up with an air rifle. Once you get one magpie, hundreds of others will come in and you`ll soon get the numbers up. Alternatively you can use mince beef, or even some eggs - crack one of the eggs open.

Definately not as quiet as an air rifle, and it will boom if you are near hedges or buildings. But, in the middle of a open field the quietness of them is quite unreal. More like a sneeze than anything else. Where they really come in though, is how quiet they are from a distance away. If your standing right next to it, you`ll not notice much, but if you have a mate fire it, whilst you stand a field away, you`ll be supprised how quiet they are.

Mossy pump hushpower .410
jackinbox99 replied to Ratsmasher's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
The mossberg hushpower .410 is a cracking gun, ive had one for a while now. You seldom see them come up and when they do are snapped up. I find mine very quiet, it quietens down normal .410 shells, but with the subsonics its pretty quiet. Certainly wouldnt need ear defenders. Its a full choke on them so will blast a clay to bits if you try it on the range. Out in the field, i find the noise level depends on where you are. If your standing next to a barn or hedge, then the noise will be amplified. If your in the middle of the field then the noise is like a sneeze - most strange when you fir -
To be honest, it was so hot yesterday that i was sweating like a rapist even wearing shorts and a t-shirt, so I didnt bother venture out to my fields. Whilst normally I do put the camo on, in the past, i have gone out and stalked rabbits wearing just jeans and a t-shirt with just as much success. I think a lot of it depends upon field cover and wind direction. Also, depends on how nervous the rabbits are.

Air Arms s410`s represent incredible value for money. It may seem expensive, but what you have to factor in is that the gun holds its value. I bought one 2 or 3 years back, and looking online, the gun is still worth virtually the same as what I paid for it! Not many other guns you can say that about. Really all depends on what sort of gun you want. If you want PCP, then the s410 would be a good purchase. Ive seen them for 350->450quid for sale. Sub 150 and your looking a springer. Plenty out there, and very accurate, but not everyone likes springers.

Excellent write up!!!

Looks like a lot of hard work skinning and gutting one of those for a little meat. Think i`ll stick to rabbits!

Ive got a Hawke LR600 laser range finder and find its very easy to use. You litterally look through the view finder like you do on a scope, make sure the target is in the cross hairs and press the button. The distance pops up instantly. Ive found it 100% accurate and it even manages to "see" pigeons sat on the top of trees and things which you think it may have difficulty focusing on. It does kinda spoil the fun and skill of shooting I find as no longer do I have to try and guess the distance etc.. And on permissions which you frequent a lot you tend not to use it as much. It has saved me

Excellent. Dont you love it when that happens!
