  1. I use a 222 which is fine but as has been said, if the land is cleared for 243 then I would give it some serious consideration as you may get the opportunity to use it on deer on the estate later. This would save you the cost of having two rifles. If you are getting the 243 it would be worth getting deer put on your FAC from the start. What have you got on your FAC already?
  2. I have a SAKO quad (22) and like it. I have not used the CZ so wouldn't be able to say how they complare. Paid about £475 for mine (new) two years ago.
  3. Nice haul. I assume that you don't shoot that area very often to get numbers like that.
  4. I was out one night lamping on my own when I came to a gate and flicked on the light. Four badgers ran out from under a sheep feeder. Two of them ran away but the other two ran straight at me. I jumped up on the gate and they bounced off the gate just below my feet and ran off. I nearly s**t myself.
  5. If you want the SGC that bad why don't you sort out your other issues and make some effort. From what you have said you don't deserve to have a SGC. Why would you even think that you should be allowed one. The shooting sports are getting enough stick as it is without allowing people who can not control their own actions to have a gun.
  6. Well done, it is nice to get out on a nice summers evening. Don't have too many rabbits around me at the moment so leaving them for a few months, just the odd one for the pot.
  7. They may want the serial number to allow them to contact the manufacturer to get info on the gun (detailed spec). I have done this in the past when the seller is not exactly sure about the spec of the gun. Hope this helps.
  8. I have a SAKO quad and got it because the idea of just replacing the barrel to have other calibre options sounded appealing. However in reality unless you have limited space in your cabinet the Quad option is of no real benefit as you have to re zero each time you change the barrel. So it isn't just a case of just pulling the gun out of the cabinet and off you go. Having said that I have a 22lr barrel on my quad and it shoots fine and I am happy with it. Anyway the shopping around is all part of the fun.
  9. You could also try asking him to include it on your FAC but put a mentoring condition on it. At least that way you could get your gun and shoot with a suitable mentor. You would however have to later submit proof that the mentor is happy with your shooting/safety awareness to have the mentoring condition removed.
  10. No harm giving them a call. I phoned up and asked if they had received the letter from my neighbour who was my referee. The girl that I spoke to asked me to hold on while she went through the application. After thanking her for her efforts, she then said that she would process it that day as she had it to hand. It may be worth asking a specific question about your application. It took just under 6 weeks to get my FAC. I am with West midlands though. Anyway a polite call may help. Good luck.
  11. I use a Cluson SL2 Shootalite. This is a scope mounted lamp, very light and can be attached or removed easily from the scope mount. It should be good for the range you mention. I also shoot alone on foot. My battery pack is on a shoulder strap which allows the battery to move about a lot, the waist belt might be a better option. Hope this hepls. K
  12. My 11 year old daughter has been asking me for a while if she can come out lamping with me so I decided the other night to take her out. I thought that she would get fed up after about half an hour so planned my route accordingly. I took out the 222 as we don’t have many rabbits around (think that it is all of the Buzzards) and I only shoot what I eat. Anyway we set out and we were out about 10 mins and we could hear an owl so used the WAM Fox call and managed to get two of the owls to come into the trees above us, so she was delighted. I have seen this before with the WAM, where I have ha
  13. I use Federal Premium V Shok Nosler Ballistic Tip, 40 GR for my 222 Tikka T3 Lite. I have found these to be accurate (1/2 inch grouping at 100 yards)and have had no problems with foxes running after being hit. They are about £27/20 so not cheap. I have tried some RWS which were cheaper (£18/20) and could not get them to group well at all. Good luck.
