That very rong indeed that bitch I put up is from litter of 7 not 1 is equal to other. I seem 3 run all hav diff style and diff speeds and diff builds. So I think he got it rong. a lot would depend on the purity of both parents. but you will get diversity even in purebred litters. and between sexes. even in a nice level litter of greyhounds . just a thought to keep this topic moving

he's only been breeding them for thirty years. what does he know

So in your experience an undershot terrier holds on as well as anything else on open ground with an animal several times it's size as it attempts to escape? How many times have you risked your own well being as well as that of the dog on it's ability to hold on as you tied or killed the animal? I have seen undershot dogs that held on especially when they had something to push against and reinforce or help them readjust their grip. I am curious as to how many you've seen take an ear or a skin hold of an animal that was much bigger and control the animal to the degree that you were able to sudue

For Sale Guaranteed Fox Dog 110% Must Go To Hunt Service
Cleanspade replied to swanseajack's topic in Working Dogs & Livestock
the advert is very clear. and the dog sounds like a bargain if your looking for this sort. good luck with the sale SJ. -
i thought this was about undershot or scissor bite. i would take a dog with less than perfect comfomation. and if it worked i would breed off it. but some faults are a problem. further down the line. . nature took millions of years to produce the mouth that is best for killing and eating. yet some on here know better. ive seen breeding that went down that road and some pups where that bad they couldnt suckle. and ended up culls without having a chance to prove themselves . what if these pups where the best in the litter. no one will ever know. and that brings the percentage down . when trying

so after reading this thread through. the overall opinion is that very few people can produce sound working stock to a standard. and that the best stock for working is riddled with bad mouths. i await the show us your bully headed undershot workers. surely there are good quality lines of good working terriers that are free from the undershot gene? how many working lads would if they could find these lines use them above there own. as an after thought what would be the natural share of the dogs mouth as nature intends. before mans intervention

Everyone had a heeler(read that as nasty biting little b*****ds) when I was a kid and now you don't see them anywhere. I think their bloody expensive nowadays too. the old chap at the farm near me has a couple, other than that iv only seen a few. Nasty little black an tan terrier things... Even scarce in their native Ormskirk now... Though ya know what, I like 'em... mine was liver and tan, he uses them for what they were bred for so there not short on balls there was a few around when i was a lad. and they did have a go at you they must have entered the russell gene pool

I love posts like this, does anyone actually realise how good a dogs sense of smell is?.......it's so good that you can't even comprehend it!! This is what makes me laugh when folk say they need a smorgasboard of mutts crashing about in the bushes making enough racket to wake the dead just to find game!!......err, you don't . i would have thought reading between the lines that the first post has been badly worded and the game that is missed hasnt been missed due to scenting ability. more likely a variety of things . some game wont apear without being pushed hard. its one thing being a

i dont know but you could try frustrating the dog. by holding it back in some way so it starts yapping. so it can see what it wants but cant get to grips with it. a cage scenario or a leash to hold it back. just a thought. . i do know it worked for a whippet/beddy i had once.lol. especially if another dog was getting on.

a collie lurcher. or similar type
-
i would be willing to pay a fair wack for the right pup. but i consider 150 a fair price. if i had to get em docked and chipped maybe a little more. however i have a couple of gifted terriers so now and then its nice to be able to return the favour its a long time since i bred a litter though. and i will only breed for one for myself now.

i wouldnt write off all wheatens and there crosses. this lad does a grand job and ive had no real disasters. maybe this is becouse i'm well aware of his capabilities. they are game bred but so are the bull terriers. and they can be very versitile in the right hands. my lurcher knows who the boss is and i have one eye on him all the time. the other thing is the terriers arnt allowed to take liberties either. ps as you see in the pic i also have some plummers just in case he isnt up to the job
