  1. I found them good in flat calms when the trout were taking emerging buzzers. Degrease the last 2 ft of leader cast it out and just give the occasional twitch to the line with your finger. They worked well. TC

  4. I remember when those foam headed buzzers first became popular, polystyrene ball wrapped in a bit of the wife's tights, then tying them at different angles to the hook to get the hook to lay at different positions in the water. Ooh those were the days, we would try anything. TC
  5. Haven't read all the thread, but from experience I will say a fast dog with brains will out catch a fast dog without brains. I'll give an example I had two dogs, one collie x greyhound straight cross and one a ACD cur who was no slouch. The collie had brains the ACD did not. The collie would work out for herself how best to tackle a rabbit on the lamp, if the rabbit was sitting on a hedge she would walk up as close as she could before rushing the rabbit and trying to put off. If a rabbit was out in the field and travelling towards the hedge she would go to the hedge and wait for the rabbit
  6. Have you thought about the drill trigger mechanism as that varies the speed of the drill. If it was mounted with a screw above it you could turn the screw to vary the speed. Just a thought. TC
  7. They do make a fair old racket when confronted with a ferret, yet they never seem to want to mix it with the ferret. Over the years I never had a ferret bitten by a squirrel. TC

  9. The only problem with hoisting the net that high is catching birds. As has been said, there are a lot of negative elements with a drop net and it made me think years ago, 'was it worth the hassle?' To me it was not, but to anyone who wishes to have a go, the best of luck. I don't know if I can find it but there was an article about a lift net that was set on pre tensioned poles, once they were activated they sprung up carrying the net with them. If I remember correctly Heritage off of here had some information about them. TC
  10. I am exactly the same been sneezing like hell the last week. It will be gone by the middle of may, It would be earlier but I am surrounded by white poplar trees and they do not finish producing pollen till then. TC
  11. Pretty much as TOMO has described, I have used them to bolt squirrels, rats and rabbits. Squirrels from old stone walls and holes in trees. TC
  12. A nice offer there and I'm sure it will help someone. TC
  13. Money can buy you temporary happiness, but that is all it is temporary. As it does not take away the underlying cause of unhappiness and no matter how much money you have it cannot change your state of mind. Money is just a drug and as with most drugs it give you a temporary high, but after that high comes the let down. RIP young lady. TC
  14. Many years ago I read a book that changed the way I fished completely, and improved the amount of fish I was catching. Up until that time I had stuck to the perceived wisdom of if its cold go deep, if it's warm fish high in the water. As you say buzzers in one shape or another make up most of the still waters trout's diet, yet they are not fished for with any consistency with the buzzer. Once I had read Arthur Coves book My Way With Trout it revolutionised and simplified the way I fished and made it more pleasurable, if that is possible. Gone were the days of thrashing the water changing a
  15. I used to net them there in the past, but due to the ground type being old slag and shingle it is really hard to get a peg in. To be honest I thought about the BG's because they could be more discrete camoed up than most things in the scrub. The area is popular with walkers and even though it is an early morning job there is always someone around. TC
  16. Right at the risk of opening a can of worms, here goes. I visited a place last weekend that I have not been to for a couple of years, an area of scrub that used to hold a lot of rabbits, till it was hit hard by mixie and VHD a couple of years ago. The upshot is there are now lots of rabbits there again. So I plan to take a few with body-grips for ferret food. The law states that the bg's have to be in a cuddy, all-be-it a bit ambiguous as to the design. I do not have a problem with that, what I do not want to do is catch non target species. Bearing in mind I have never trapped rabbits and
  17. That feeling will never go away. My eldest is 35 and you still get the same feelings as when they were kids, but you can't live their lives for them. Think back to when you signed up, I bet your parents felt worse than you do now. All you can do is hold it in check, and support them in what they want to do. TC
  18. Another fine web from the netrigger stable. TC
  19. Just put this on in the background. Beautiful. TC
  20. They are cloning police dogs and have been for a while. Cut and paste from the link I put up. Since then Hwang claims to have successfully cloned at least 400 canines from around the world. Sooam Biotech offers dog cloning commercially, and clones police dogs for the South Korean government, as well as pets for rich owners (mostly from the US). The name given to the cloned Korean working dogs is Toppy, which stands for Tomorrow's Puppy. Cloning police dogs makes more sense than you’d think. Only 10-15% of dogs are genetically predisposed to being effective detection dogs, so the c
  21. Looks more like bronze than copper to me. The design on it is primitive, but notice how it stops short of the edge on the top, yet on the bottom it carries on to the edge. Not sure on the bracelet front all the ones I have seen (in museums) have all been curved with no right angle edges. I would say it is a decoration of some sort but for what is an archaeologists guess. PS stop biting your nails. TC
  22. She has captured the evening sun in haymin's picture I just love the depth of it. Very good indeed. TC
  23. I waited till she went out this afternoon then took a quick photo of the nest. TC
  24. I know now why she is back and forth, I just found the nest. TC
  25. Have you got mice Queens this time of year are looking for nests sites, they like to make their nests in mouse holes so are attracted to their scent. Mrs got a nice pic last year. https://www.flickr.com/photos/sandymere/13609063875/ As far as I am aware i have no mice, I used to have rats under the shed but that has been controlled now. last year I did have a nest of bumbles under the shed but they were gaining access from out side the shed, this one comes in every time I open the door. It could be a queen as it is huge. TC Edited to add: last year I did have a leaf cutter be
