  1. He will now that you've asked, just to wind you up. I cannot believe how many people fall for his wind-ups. Fun watching though. TC
  2. http://innovation.uk.msn.com/personal/channel-4-runs-dog-cloning-competition. Now some who could afford it can get their super dogs cloned and they will live forever. Wonder who would be up for it? TC
  3. Baw would make a great gardener, he just plants the seeds and lets everyone fight over what emerges, then sits back and enjoys the show. TC
  4. Nahh baw does not do nights, he's not getting paid to be on here. Saves if for the morning shifts, where he can be on here when he is supposed to be working. TC
  5. Love him or hate him, he certainly gets peoples pulses racing. It does seem odd that the same people bite every time though. Baw must be laughing his socks off. Three threads started 2 deleted one locked, and now this one all from one thread. TC
  6. There is one that has been coming into the shed for the last two weeks he comes in, has a good look around and seems to favour something under the table saw. Obviously I don't have a clue if it is the same bee but it is funny that it goes for the same spot every time. TC
  7. Another face book idiot. TC
  8. When you start on the split ring use a clove hitch for the first row start it exactly the same as a purse net, use a 4 1/4" mesh that is a 2 1/8th" mesh board and put 13 or 14 meshes on the ring. When you come to pull the ring off all you will have is a larger first mesh. Make sure you do 20 plus rows before you pull the end meshes off the split ring. Better still make yourself a triangle out of fence wire or an old wire coat hanger for long nets it works better. TC
  9. While there are still people who believe that jills will die if not mated, and the so called experts on ferret forums perpetuating that myth, you will always have newcomers worried that if they do not mate the Jill it will die. I have read some of those so called experts telling all and sundry that a jill will die of this or that disease if it is not brought out of season. Yes it is a possibility that the ferret could get a malady, but no more than it could get cancer or any disease not related to it's season. Newcomers are perhaps a little over protective of their ferrets and in the ma
  10. Out of curiosity who trains the instructors? TC
  11. Ideation could you empty your in box please. TC
  12. I would suggest looking at a few of them, take parts that you like from some and disregard others. I have seen some on there that bare no resemblance at all to knitting a net effectively. I have my own way of knitting that suits me, a few others have found it useful too, but some just cannot get to grips with it as it changes everything they were taught, and they have developed a style that suits them. The principles of knitting a net are the same, it does not matter if you are making a trawl or a rat net, you work in rows. Each row is half a mesh, once you have completed two rows you have
  13. I would say spun polyester is about the easiest to knot, as long as you form the knot correctly it will not slip. Most spun materials knot well as the spinning of the material leaves fibres protruding out of the core of the yarn, it is those fibres that intertwine with each other that helps to keep the knot from slipping. TC
  14. They are scope holders for display in retail settings. Thats from Leupold themselves. TC
  15. A few questions to see where you are going wrong. Are you starting the first row with a clove hitch? What type of knot are you using? What type of twine are you using? TC
  16. Good luck with the project, it will be hard work of that there is no doubt, but your young enough and bright enough to see it through. I would have loved to do the same but circumstances did not allow. I honestly wish you all the best with your project, there will be set backs, but I am sure you have the wit to overcome them. I will be following as I am sure so will many others. TC
  17. Many a true word spoke in jest Mr Wilkes. Many years ago when the towns and villages were, through lack of transport not as accessible as they are now. Most of the long netting would be done in the netters own locality. We all know that good sets are few and far between and without transport the netter would be confined to a few miles radius of his village. This is the question, would you share your drops / sets with anyone family apart knowing it would reduce the numbers of rabbits available to you? I think this is where the assumption that long netting was a secret art arose from, as
  18. Looked today and the first of the carrots are starting to show, there are also a few leeks showing their heads. As a side note the wife's friend in Newfoundland told her they had 40cm of snow last night with another 50 or 60 to come today and tomorrow . And we moan about the weather. TC
  19. This may seem crass but, IMHO it is the best way to learn. I am talking about night time netting in the traditional style. There are two parts to long netting, running a net out, and the field craft side of netting. One is reliant on the other so both parts have to be mastered. Setting a net is the easy part any competent netter could teach you the basics on how to set a net in half an hour. The other part takes a bit longer, about a lifetime. ( I have been netting for over 25 years and am still learning.) Have a go your self, you will remember a lot easier what works for you and what
  20. It does make you think, I have told everyone that I want a no resuscitation should anything happen to me, I have had my life, if I've gone just leave me go. But a young man of that age is different, I think the family were right not to give up hope, and yes it brought a few tears to my eyes also. TC
  21. How does a coil work for a male ferret? Never heard of that before. There is another option available to you, cemical castration. TC
  22. The cuckoo. The cuckoo sits in the tall green grass, It's wings folded tightly it's beak up its ass Now in this position it can only say twit For it's hard to say cuckoo with a beak full of Anon
  23. During the warmer months one ruse we used on deep pools was to tie a dead animal in a tree overhanging the pool, as it got maggot ridden the maggots would drop into the pool and ground bait it for you. A couple of maggots on a size 10 hook would soon get you a few trout. TC
  24. I have Norman Tulips booklet here its a good read, plenty of good info in it. he has some photos of horse and wagons that he has carved in it, the work and detail is unbelievable. TC
