bird replied to hang & bang's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
spot on mate, your right they deff are quite healthy breed of dog, so are greyhounds, and lurchers , it was prob the main reason i got into running dogs in the 1st plsce spot on , the whippet and greyhound , have very few health probs same as the lurcher, anyting with running dog in its genes give a healthy type dog, it was the main reason i got into them in the 1st place, as i got fed up with the bull breeds, more so bullmastiffs with all there healht probs = HD not long lived etc, even big Buck who 1/2 gsd , 100% more healthy than a pure gsd, being 4/8 greyhound . Funny enoug -
why dont the police shoot the scum in the legs if not led, they can use rubber bullets , i was told close range in the legs it break them. All it need for the police to say, it was for crowd control , lets face gang 30 no prob the police shooting. all it need ,ever bit of unrest they causing , once it going down the scum getting hurt, it deff make them think twice kicking off with any person . they deff need the strong arm of the law 100%

smart that , ive just got the norm 1-1/2 one which great, still going great for 8 years , ive had it with Buck , might try the above if get a smaller type lurcher next.

This is it mate, I know it hard to take as a lurcher bloke the last 30 odd years and still for them, but any land owner, keeper, etc, would 100% rather a bloke go on the ground, than anybody with a running dog. I had this argument with. My brother in law, he was a shooter, he always gave the bollocks, I can get on most places and shoot foxes and rabbits bla bla, go and knock. On the farmers door. I told him I been knocking farmers doors for 30 years, and most didn't want me on then, and deff not now with this hunting ban with dogs. So mate your right rifle lads will deff think numbers down big

Well that report. And how it killing them, if you like few rabbits with a lurcher or ferret, you may as well rap. It up be feck all to run. Not looking good at all mate.

Spot on, OK in the past things were different, and suoppse people didn't no any better, but we know today animals and some species are near extinct. With the social media etc, we can see them in there natural environment, no need for feckin zoo's /circus.

What people view on the above? I've got one of each, old Bryn still got his, Buck had his removed. Now not saying Bryn. Had probs all the while, but he deff had couple rips on them. Had to rest him up till there healed, I did at one time tape them up when. Lamping him, to stop them getting ripped, was OK but, I said my next lurcher will have them off, so I did Buck had his off at 2 days old, never any leg probs, so I will do the same when I have another lurcher pup. But reading on a American vet report, they say to leave them on,? So what do you lot think on here?

yes very true, and if you read say most of my posts regards this type x , ive always said for years and years, they ( dont) suite my personalty , i should have never had a 1x collie x grey , the 1/4 collie 3 /4 grey would have suited me better than a 1x like ive got, ok he been good rabbit dog , carnt knock for that, but your not working them all the while, and there manic temp get me down, this consent staring at you , the dog carnt walk 2 yards with out keep looking back at you, had this mate, feckin near 13 years , never again, my big dog as bad, but i know he just followed him the s

True with the mouthing on the back of the neck, Buck did that on the back of a dob neck., and spun it over like he would other quarry. Had go with owner, only because his dog had a pop at Buck 1st, his 70 odd lb dog wonder what hit him lol. Just to had what whitefeet said, you better of really keeping them on a lead, suppose I never really done it much with Buck. Because he don't fight other dogs, he just real nice animal to take ou, geat with people and kids,,. But my next lutcher I will deff try more lead control, as best really save all the shit you get, like today to collies came r

no mate, 1st sign of dog health is there shit, if to soft etc, and they shit more than 2 stools, then they either got upset gut, or there being over fed , my d ogs do norm 2 shits a day , mine are fed on raw mince chicken , big dog as 3/4 pound lb, plus 4 small cups of dry meal 24% protein . and looks tip top shape .

Right , mate regards good coat for wet, windy, cold weather, deff a collie x more so if good lump of collie in it, beddy , gives not bad coat, not sure about salukis , people who got the type can say if they want, Bel Mal x give very good coat, gsd gives hell of great coat for bad weather , down side to them, they molt quite bad, i am stripping Buck out the last 3 weeks, and still got bit more to day, should had whippet x lol . A Lab x give great coat as well , the last 3

spot on, mate on the money, your right it never get any better since the hunting ban with dogs , before as you know , me and me when we had mooch together with our dogs , years ago if the dogs knocked a big rabbit up , or ran a fox in the day, unless the farmer having trouble with stuff getting nicked at the farm , or gangs of lads , travelers , etc walking all over the place, they may of in the 80s , just give you a bollocking told you not to come on again . But now they get the cops on you right away , and as we all know can loose your car and dogs, and lamping gone the same wa

lol , made me laugh mate, good dog that was then lol, pity you couldnt chain him up in the day , and loose him out at night , my dogs live outside in kennel/run , but ive thought few times now i am getting older and only got 50% of me hearing now , if end up on me own in latter life, prob a good gsd type dog, would be very useful pet in the house, but they do 1/2 feckin molt bad, Buck my 1x gsd x grey , sheds quite bad, and not got the full coat like pure gsd got, maybe even one of them tosa on the guard dog post, the smaller types they good guards and bark fair bit , no more dog hair l

thanks mate, yeh your spot on what you said, there deff some good ones out there that guard, and god help the scum who broke in your house , didnt know there were black though ? wonder if there any really in the UK, didnt they change the DDA and they can be here if muzzled and nuts off, you bound to get a well bred pup through i reckon, i fck my dogs off and get nice black male, only joking i dump bryn and little woody 1st though lol

any pics or links to them mate, seen the big brutes 200 lb ones , but not these types your on about, they would be handful as you say , there bred to take bit of pain, and got not bad drive in them for big dogs, so as you say the lighter ones make better al round type animal if they guard .?
-
From what I've read on the breed, there not really guard dogs, they dont bark. Much for a start, vary alot in temp and size, some 200lb, others 70-85lb. Alot of big breeds don't bark much, OK they might look the part, but in the dark don't mean nout, and they only got to shoot them, no I still say you need a vocal dog to warn you. a mongrel from the pound, or like. Jigsaw says saluki types make not bad watch dogs, get somthing like that, stick Jack next to it, they wake the feckin dead up lol, bloke where I live got sharp little watch dog it's a patx border that prat would soon have your ankl

No, had them few times up/down lane looking, just stopped lamping for 10 mins then carried on, once they gone poss couple mile away. We got stopped one night, by coppers though, we just had a Charlie about 10 mins ago, and a house bottom of Lane phoned the cops, he said what you been doing we said just looking for rabbits he said get dogs out he wanted to check them over. Well got dogs out, and feckin Buck jumped over a fence, copper said get rabbits with big thing, I said yeh why not he gets them easy lol. Buck went up to then, copper was fussing him, he said gsd in that mate, he was OK

that sounds a nightmare mate, if i had any type dog like that, no doubt about, alot of gsds have got bad reputation , infact they were the bad dog , before the rottie , apbt came on the scene , and you can see why deff when you read about them on here and few other places . i think said on here before , few years ago where i moved to, there was bloke got a pure long coat gsd , it was always ready to go at a dog, and if you went up to the bloke, the dog stat growling and glare at you, was big sable colour scare the shit out of most people me included lol. well one day it had pop at Buck, B

pity the lad was on his own, because if he had mate with him he could have took a pic of the arrest , so that it show the coppers taking his lamp/ battery , if nothing else .! where about was this this what area .But being honest the lamping game fooked more so if you got a running dog, it was crap 35 year ago , and more so now since the hunting with dogs ban fact . i feel sorry for young people starting out now in this game relay do , if you shoot you get permission , far easier than with a lurcher.
-
and thats al you need mate, funny thing i heard that saluki xsand pure were good watch dogs , as long as they kick up some noise they done there job, and me being near deaf , i need 2 -4 of them lol . i did have none ped racing whippet little bitch , had her outside side of me house where i lived before , she was great little watchdog, anybody came down me garden path, she bark like feck, lol, a lad ha 2 brothers down track 23 in 34 lb , they guard his van, tough little buggers they kill foxes them , they go gens back staff, greyhound in them, yep as long as they bark they done there job, ive
