  1. Well , I am no expert on the breed, but I do know a bloke, who was a dog handler in the RAF, for 30 years, and help pick gsd pups for the police, so obviously. He knows the breed gsd, and he worked bel mals as well. He seen Buck my 1x gsd grey, and said his temp was brill, he liked about him that, he was big daft thing with people/dogs, but flick of a switch he be full on when running quarry. He liked his gsds to be the same attitude,, only guard when they have to. He showed me a bel mal doing bit of tug work with him, the dog was only 70 lb, but feckin strong dog, he said Buck be twice a
  2. spot on mate, had the same with Buck , he seen some quarry , and went after them , had bryn, and mates dog as well, bryn came back about 8 -10 mins , other dog about 12-15 mins , fookin Buck 1 hour later , he was prat if seen any quarry , in the lamp bit better , but still try to catch what was in front of him , but you dead right , you just got to stay where you are and call or whistle him back in , as he got bit older he got bit better, it must be the gsd thing in them , as they got great nose , and prey drive , put that to running dog, you got a full on type dog , that 1 hour with felt li

baw , was great ,made me laugh , loved winding coursing lads up lol, stabber another good lad, met him , labs , another good one , dont think he was ever right after the fishing comp lol
  5. spot on mate, your 100% right regards upbringing and owner personalitie, just for a example , now my big dog Buck the 1x gsd x grey ,daft with people and good with other dogs, like said on here loads of times. Now his litter brother , another big dog, kept with terrier, and spaniels , the owner does keeper work, uses the brother more as watch dog, and takes him by the shoots. now this dog deff shows lot more guarding instinct than Buck, because the kept with other dogs that guard, Buck kept with old bryn who dont guard, so Buck just followed suit , plus my dogs look at me as there
  6. got it Sandy, it spot on , you deff got a talent there mate, i send fallow leg in the post sep lol, thanks again mate
  7. would be mate, akita more of fighting dog than gsd, like say if you could get a breed as vocal gsd , but power of these bandog types, you got great guard/ watch dog , like we said on here before mate, get a jack or pat, kennel next to a bandog or rottie i reckon that might do it, either way you one that make noise, and one that can back the noise up lol
  8. yeh i was thinking similar me self, ok today even though, the breed supposed to restricted how you can keep apbts , but suppose if you got 3-4 well bred bulldogs , you might want a breed to guard them. lets face it today, forget bulldogs, lurchers, terriers, gundogs, just ped dogs in general , need to be protected from thieving scum , thats out there . and even though i like bandogs as type breed, and they are no doubt about it great guard dogs, just as a neo's are , and rotties are , all big strong guard breeds. in my mind the one breed that when you break it down proper , a well
  9. always thought beddyx grey x bullx whippetx grey make very good type lurcher , not ovr big say 23-24in 55lb there abouts take all quarry more so in the lamp .
  10. Nice that, and I reckon they make great guard dogs if any pups from the mating, how he actually bred., is he neo x pit, as that was the original bandog. Not keen on cut ears me self. I know they like them in Italy, but prefer the natural ear me self, same as docked tail not keen.
  11. Yeh, he got a farm growing the stuff as well, OK he still packs a good punch, and fast hands, but I am afraid he blow out quick against a good young heavyweight, smoking like he as done since he stopped from. 2015, got to have fookef his lungs up. You carnt do that and still box 8 - 12 rounds.
  12. yeh your right with Buck , he 8 in august , i am out every day with him couple hours , dont lamp like used to with him , trigg knows Buck had few good seasons put in to him, plus as well if you remember he hurt his shoulder when he was 12 months old , i rest him for 3 days then lamp him the next night and he put in good shift in , but stiff next day , but never stopped him working, but suppose that injury would always be there in him, he jumped of a steep bank seen a cat or fox not sure what it was, as happened quick , he landed heavy on his right shoulder , was about 8 ft drop
  13. not got one, but did see a pit x grey x salukix grey line bred in the 80s , about the same time i had my 1/4 pit 3/4 grey , both wee good dogs on foxes, good on rabbits, had few muncjack with them as well. suppose that drop of saluki , or coursing dog give them bit more wind, but that 1/4 pit x 3/4 grey was not bad wind, and he caught his stuff quite quick , a drop of bull in a lurcher , will push that bit harder for you, and as you know your self with your old stuff you had , they been good dogs,
  14. true that, ive pushed Buck few times , ok he not really bred for rabbits, but had 38 up the dales, and 15-20s on hard type places, and dog his size doing that no mean feat , but he been pushed quite hard on other big stuff as well lamping , so been tested fair bit deff .
  15. alot of it down to ( not) catching , they wait till it moves then strike, as there scared the rabbit it will get away , thats why they do it simple as that mate. Ok any type lurcher can pick this trate up , but feckin colliexs its in there genes even at a 1/4 deff. alot on here know of my 1x collie x grey bryn who near 13 , now he never stalked a rabbit in all his working like, and i caught tons of rabbits with him day/night , but i put him on the easiest rabbits i could at 1st, even feckin walking down the beam and dropping him on then so he knew in mind every rabbit he could ca
  16. ( dont really like people ) haha made me laugh that lol , i ve deff gone that way since this lock down, the greedy c**ts stripping the shelves down , before the shops stopped them , yep not a people person no more , a dog ok suppose atleast it carnt talk to you, or give snide/ looks and talk bull shit . anyway regards the dog as long as it , dont kill sheep, or bite somebody , and as long as it catches something , thats the only thing bother me , the recall will get better , you got all summer to bond to it, forget quarry plenty time for that . plus take them out on the
