  1. Yep - thats what i was trying to put into dog terms. Doesn't work that way, or else a long 28" greyhound would be faster than a shorter coupled 25" greyhound, and as we all know, this isn't allways so. Cheers. i,ve seen some short coupled dogs destroy a long 28 inch dog over 100 yards its when the big dog gets in his stride he should take it.some people like big long dogs for there terrain but up here in cumbria anything over 26 inch can,t get opened up cause the fields are to small. I think you're right! A short coupled dog will do better in sprints and running on small

  4. I don't know the dynamics of it; and I've seen some very fast "short coupled" Whippets and Greyhounds..... but I do like a dog with a good legnth of back. Cheers.
  5. Looks the same style as Lima, I wonder if the others are as tall and racey looking. Cheers.
  6. I'm dissapointed the Leek Eaters didn't do it ! I've spent some good times down there. I was there in the 'Arms Park when Wales beat West Germany 1-0, Rushy scoring. I was in a rugby club near Groes Fean and they turned the rugby off on the telly so I could watch Newcastle play !! They made me an honarary member of Ponty Rugby club ! So I've enjoyed my times down there, even if they do have a funny accent !! I was looking forward to the lads coming up to St James', but that isn't going to happen now !! Next season, hopefully !! Well done, the Tangerines !! Cheers.
  7. Was out first thing this morning with the dogs, and you could see it was going to be a good day. Went to the local Whippet track, the good weather brought a few people out, a few Lurchers there aswell. Gave the dogs a run up, but bloody hell, it was warm. Just had them out local before kennelling them up for the night, and they are lying on the concrete in the run, must be cooler than there boxes. I lived for 26 years in the Middle East, but believe me, I don't like the heat, I prefer the winter, when I can get out and work the dogs ! Cheers.
  8. I use the log cabins a lot, beginning of the season they are fairly cheap, £140 for four nights, sleeps six, and you get free fishing for all the people you register as using the cabin. Don't just look at the price list, 'phone them and ask about "specials", you also get 10-20% discount if you have used them before. It used to be £10 a dog per night, but has now went up to about £30 a night !!! I just tell them the dogs will sleep in the car; never had a problem. Cheers.
  9. I didn't put this post and picture up for an argument or to "sponge" a free collar ! I put it up to highlight the excellent quality and service ! I am more than satified with the collars and have had 100% positive feed back on them from people who have seen them, and even on here, there only appears to be one person who questions them. Cheers.
  10. Dogs and Natives..... we had a very limited night out, .....it wasnt anyones fault, and Bruce beat Delta fair and square that night!! She has NEVER beat Bruce, but he has allways taken more rabbits than her, but even Danny wll concede that the little bitch Delta is a top dog on her day,on things before the ban Cheers.
  11. bl##dy hell CP is that your pup he's lookin well pal!!! I dream of mating her with that charlie dog you have but they are only bairns !!! In the future... maybe !!! Cheers.
  12. why the need for such big collars Whats big about them collars ?? They fit the dogs extremly well !! I've never had SS gear before, in 45 years of having running dogs! But I asked for his gear, and i think it's the best..... You make your own mind up !
  13. thats decent of ss hope you paid him lol He hasn't PM'd me to say he hasn't recieved the payment....... He may have to fight me for it !!!!! LOL !!!
  14. why the need for such big collars Let me tell you, mate; I was given a beautiful collar for one of my dogs for judging the Neilston Working Dog Show, but some scroat stole it off her ! My old bitch has run with balling twine and all sorts of gear round her neck, but I'm an old man now, and don't mind my dogs having the best.... they've earned it !! I'm a firm believer in "look after your dogs... and they'll look after you " !! Cheers.
  15. I PM'd SS yesterday, wanting two collars for my dogs; he PM'd back asking what I wanted, size, colour, fittings, etc. I PM'd him back with the details; he made the collars to my specifications and posted them on the same day..... This is BEFORE he recieved the payment !!! I recieved them today, less than 24 hrs since I PM'd him !! I have a very small circle of friends in the dog game, but this guy is one of the best !!!!! Cheers, mate !!!
  16. Kielder has been fishing very well for the last couple of weeks, both fly and bait. Ledgered worm with crushed dog biscuits in a swim feeder have been doing well. Cheers.
  17. Even on permission there are walls, fences, gates, etc, to get over; so if a dog doesn't jump, what do you do..... lift it over them ? Cheers.
  18. Heres a Deer/Grey pup at about the same age. No resemblance to your pup, but that means nothing. As I say, good luck with it ! Cheers.
  19. I'm most certainly NOT an expert on ANY cross of Lurcher, but just judging by the head shape, it looks to be more Beddy than Deerhound, but that is only my opinion. I've seen Beddy/Whippets and Beddy/Greyhounds with coats like that, but as people say, it seems a bit on the big side to be a Beddy cross! So my guess is that it's probably not a 1st cross, but a Lurcher x Lurcher breeding. Not much help, but hopefully it will turn out to be a good'un Cheers.
  20. Wern't Trailhouds origionaly Foxhounds with Greyhound blood added to give them more speed ? I've seen Trailhounds quite a few times and watching them run over the fell tops and then sprint in to their owners is a good day out ! Cheers.
  21. I presently have one of each; a Lurcher to Lurcher cross, and a 1st cross Longdog, so I don't really have a preference. One thing though, you normaly have more of an idea how big, how it will look, etc, with a 1st cross. But nothing wrong with Lurcher x Lurcher ! Cheers.
  22. I would say use a coursing Greyhound..... but the simple fact is there are 1000 racing Greyhounds to every one, (genuine), Coursing Greyhound. Best of luck. Cheers.
  23. So to comply with all these insane H & S rules would mean the end of the Club and Hunt shows ? I hope the change in government will repeal all these crazy P.C. rules and let us get back to enjoying ourselves !! Cheers.
  24. Just a comment on the brindle/judge subject; I've seen the lad judge a couple of times, and think he is an honest judge who genuinely works his own dogs, unlike a lot of judges. Yes there were a few brindle dogs winning, including two of mine, but looking around the show there seemed to be an awful lot of brindles around, more than usual, and some very nice examples. I can't see how the judge was baised when he gave a very nice light fawn dog the puppy championship, (deservedly), over my brindle bitch. No complaints about the judging or the show from me. Cheers.
  25. Bosun, I can see where your'e coming from; but in Oz they have a different outlook to pests from us. They built a fence thousands of miles long to keep Dingo's away from stock. They can't understand the oposition to killing feral cats that we have here; feral cats are, I think the number 2 pest down there. Foxes and magpies are very high on the list of pests aswell. I've taken feral dogs, with pure Saluki's, in the Middle East, but never went out especialy for them, and never deliberatly entered a dog to them, but sometimes it just happened, they were classed as pests, just a we class foxes, (
