How long do they live? A lot of US Deerhounds seem to die very young. Here's one of my old dogs. Taken about 20 years ago. He lived to fourteen. I'd of thought 14 was a good age for ANY dog !! My Dobbie was well over 12 when she went, and my pure bred Saluki was 17; an exceptional age, I thought. Good looking dog, anyway ! Cheers.

Mac, there are some that take more than the odd rabbit or two !! Cheers.

Looka a lot like old Bruce ! (Forget the rosette; that was the 1st and only one he ever won ! LOL !). Cheers.

There seems to have been a lot of interest and talk about Deerhound X's lately. Are they making a comeback...... or have they never been away ??? I have a wee bitch who has only an 1/8th Deer in her, and also a 1st x Deer/Grey pup. I know lads who wouldn't know how to switch a computer on, who have run Deer X's with great success for many years, and still do ! Have they just been overshadowed by the Bull X's and Saluki hybrids ? I know for a fact many are still being bred and worked, who on here runs them ? Cheers.

As I said to you, There's even more to come from that dog !! Class !! Cheers. -
Whin, I'm not trying to convince you of anything ! I'm pointing out the fact you said in a previous post that WE have all these different crosses, and THEY only have the one cross, which is patently wrong ! Cheers.

Whin, it's not true that the Americans only run one type of dog, as you say !! Even your good mate Dutch Salmon runs a Saluki and Saluki x or two !! They also run hard blood Whippets and Greyhounds, Borzois and just about every other type of sighthound and their X's ! Much like we do ! Staghounds like Dans are bred for a specific purpose; Coyote; of course they run other things aswell, but to say Americans run only one type of dog is wrong. Cheers.

Whin, do you deliberatly just disagree with whatever anyone else says ?? Youre usual reply to any thread is that your saluk/collies are the best, but in your last reply, you are having a go at saluki and collie X's !!!!! If I said I saw a Podenco x Galgo killing penguins in the Antartic; you would say you have seen the same, but they wern't as good as your dogs at taking salmos and lobsters in the Mojave desert !!! LMFAO !! Cheers.

There's a lot of wishfull thinking and nostalgia on this site about Staghounds.... but lets keep our feet firmly on the ground !! I've seen them run, both in the 'States and Australia. They have been bred for generations, from the best, to run certain quarry, on certain land ! We in the UK don't have the same quarry, and the size of the land these lads run makes the fens look like a city park !! Lets be fair; ther's nothing in this country that a decent Bull X or Deer X can't take; so a Stag from the 'States would basicaly die of boredom !! Don't get me wrong; they are tremendous animals at wh

Dan, I know what you're saying; this dog had the look of that bitch about him, and he was bred from Deer/Grey/Saluki/Bull, not sure what percentages, but was worker to worker. He belonged to LDR, but I saw him do the job; a big dog, 28" + but he took everything from rabbits up !! Died doing what he was bred for ! Cheers.

No mate, I think you got great dogs like that by breeding the best to the best ! Just as some of us in the UK try the same !! But then again, we haven't the quarry here that you have over there; we just wish we had !! Cheers. I know you know the game but just wanted to illustrate for some that read too much bullshit off this net. We didnt breed them pencil necked shit eatin deerhounds to a greyhound to produce these coyote dogs. They bred coyote dog to coyote dog to do so. Like I said, I know you knew but had to just say it cause i here this garbage way too much. Dan, I

At the moment I have a bitch that is made up from Bedlington,Whippet,Deerhound & Greyhound. I also have a 1st X Deerhound/Greyhound pup. In the past I've had pure Saluki and Saluki hybrids, also had Whippets and Collie X's, plus quite a few "Bitza's" so I think I can safely say I'm not "breed blind" !! For Whin to slate Whippets, Saluki's and Deerhounds is rediculess, as these breeds along with Greyhounds are probably the basis of most Lurchers ! Duckwing, believe me; there is still lads going north of the border and getting decent bags and most of the good dogs have more than a little

Whin, there are lads from down here who have been cleaning up in your own backyard for years with genuine 1st cross deer/greys !!! If you get out as much as you say you do, I'm supprised you haven't bumped into them !!! Or maybe they just heard you coming and kept out of your way ???? Cheers,

Dan, any sensible person on this site looks forward to your posts; keep them up mate !! Cheers.

She has got a huge back end for a pup, hasn't she !!?? LDR was on the phone today asking when I'm starting her; but theres pleanty time for that !! I'm hoping it's the old "Hybrid Vigour" and maybe she'll win a match or two !! See you up in Neilston, come and have a craic with an old man !! LOL !! Cheers.
-
The 1st and 3rd pics are the double of my pup, except mine is dark brindle, but it shows they throw true to type ! Heres mine, couple of poor 'phone pics from a couple of months ago; Cheers.

Did I judge your dog and bitch litter mates at Neilston ? Did one of them die doing what it was bred for ? If so, they were cracking dogs. Maybe I'm mistaken, (old age !! LOL !!), I'll be at Neilston this year, and if I'm not roped into judging, I'll probably show the pup. Hope to see you there. Your'e right, Doxhope bred their dogs for conformation for the field, not the ring ! Thats what attracted me to this pup. But Billy dosen't own the stud dog, he bred it, but a guy in Sunderland owns it. 'Becky is the grandmother of my pup, and I understand she was a class working Deerhound. Anyhow, hop

Haven't got any pics that do her justice, mate. She isn't 9 month old yet, but is around 28 1/2" and 70lb, and shaping up exactly as I wanted and expected from this breeding. Cheers.

Why ? I'd like to hear your oppinion. I have a bitch pup at the moment by "Doxhope Knights Errant", out of a well bred Irish Greyhound bitch. Cheers.

Perhaps people don't realise that places like Aintree, in Liverpool, and Gosforth Park, in Newcastle, were great coursing grounds until the mechanical hare took over and these great coursing grounds became HORSE racing parks, and the coursing dogs that attracted 10's of thousands of supporters were reduced to chasing a mechanical hare round in circles ? Cheers.

I thought the Stags over your way and down in Oz were heavily Deerhound blooded, Dan ?? Cheers.
