  1. Whin, you say if a deerhound was any good "we would all have them", you said exactly the same about whippets and salukis ! But the point is we're not talking about PEDIGREES or PURE BREDS !! We are talking about CROSSES !! No body would dream of having a pure collie or beddy for lurcher work, but ALL the affore mentioned breeds ARE used in producing lurchers I know it's pointless debating the point with you, as you will just go off on another tangent, but if you read my 1st post on this thread, I was asking who worked and owned Deer X's.....not asking some one, (you), to come on and slate dee
  2. I've allways liked Nuahla, and was very tempted to have a pup out of her, same as Woodgas Deer/Grey bitch, another one I was tempted with, both proven workers; but I had set my mind on a 1st cross Deer/Grey. There should be some decent pups running next season with pleanty Deerhound in them !! Cheers.
  3. Davey, I haven't spoken to Bill for a while, so I don't know who got the other pups, I'm just glad I got my pick, she is heading exactly the way I wanted her to !
  4. Delta, Beddy/Grey X Deer/Grey/Whippet, 4 1/2 year old, 23", around 40lb; Cheers.
  5. She's slowed down hieght wise, and is now starting to fill out. I reckon another 1" or 1 1/2" will be it. I had down to a show last week to let some friends look over her, they all agreed she had good, tight feet. She'll get every chance !! Cheers.
  6. Lima; 1st cross Deerhound/Greyhound. 9 month old today, 28 1/2" and around 70lb; Cheers.
  7. Whin, please go and spoil someone elses thread, there are people trying to have a good discussion on this one !! Anyway, to get the thread back on track !!!!!! This dog, 3/4 Deer, 1/4 Grey had five seasons up in Scotland, on the biggest of quarry, retired with nothing worse than a broken tooth !! Not my dog, but I'm sure the owner won't mind, no names, no pack drill, etc !!! Cheers.
  8. Whin, you go on about all these well bred dogs you have or have had, you go on about the importance of breeding, yet the last litter you bred, YOU PUT TWO DIFFERNT DOGS OVER THE BITCH !!! How do you know which dog is the sire to the pups, do the owners of the pups know about this, how can a record of future breeding be kept ????? A rather haphazard way of breeding for a man who puts such importance on good breeding ! Cheers.
  9. Charti I would like to apologise I've contributed to ruining the thread, but feckin whin posts the same shit all the time and i cant help responding!!Sorry fella No bother mate, not your fault, how could I have been naive enough to think I could put up a post about Deerhounds without him coming on to tell everyone they are wrong and he's right ?? Cheers.
  10. I started this thread to hear peoples thoughts on the Deerhound X, and until I went out at about 12 o'clock last night, it was going along great ! I logged on this morning and saw Whins name and just knew he would come on and ruin it, just like every post he ruins !! Same old shit, almost word for word, wether its on posts about Staghounds, Whippets, Salukis, Deerhounds, whatever !! Whin IT IS A FACT that there are pleanty of very good Deer X's around, Some of the top lads are taking big bags..and I don't mean "bolted rabbits" !! Maybe you just don't see them !! They sure as hell don't com
  11. O.K. Let me be the first to bite ! LOL ! I've had five Whippets and not one of them opened up when running quarry ! My mate Mally has, in my oppinion, the best working, KC Whippet I've seen, and I've never heard a squeek out of it, day or night. Running dogs open up for one reason only.... being overmatched and frustrated !! Cheers.
  12. That's a strong looking dog, Dai; how's it bred ? Cheers.
  13. How long do they live? A lot of US Deerhounds seem to die very young. Here's one of my old dogs. Taken about 20 years ago. He lived to fourteen. I'd of thought 14 was a good age for ANY dog !! My Dobbie was well over 12 when she went, and my pure bred Saluki was 17; an exceptional age, I thought. Good looking dog, anyway ! Cheers.
  14. Mac, there are some that take more than the odd rabbit or two !! Cheers.
  15. Looka a lot like old Bruce ! (Forget the rosette; that was the 1st and only one he ever won ! LOL !). Cheers.
  16. There seems to have been a lot of interest and talk about Deerhound X's lately. Are they making a comeback...... or have they never been away ??? I have a wee bitch who has only an 1/8th Deer in her, and also a 1st x Deer/Grey pup. I know lads who wouldn't know how to switch a computer on, who have run Deer X's with great success for many years, and still do ! Have they just been overshadowed by the Bull X's and Saluki hybrids ? I know for a fact many are still being bred and worked, who on here runs them ? Cheers.
  17. As I said to you, There's even more to come from that dog !! Class !! Cheers.
  18. Whin, I'm not trying to convince you of anything ! I'm pointing out the fact you said in a previous post that WE have all these different crosses, and THEY only have the one cross, which is patently wrong ! Cheers.
  19. Whin, it's not true that the Americans only run one type of dog, as you say !! Even your good mate Dutch Salmon runs a Saluki and Saluki x or two !! They also run hard blood Whippets and Greyhounds, Borzois and just about every other type of sighthound and their X's ! Much like we do ! Staghounds like Dans are bred for a specific purpose; Coyote; of course they run other things aswell, but to say Americans run only one type of dog is wrong. Cheers.
  20. Whin, do you deliberatly just disagree with whatever anyone else says ?? Youre usual reply to any thread is that your saluk/collies are the best, but in your last reply, you are having a go at saluki and collie X's !!!!! If I said I saw a Podenco x Galgo killing penguins in the Antartic; you would say you have seen the same, but they wern't as good as your dogs at taking salmos and lobsters in the Mojave desert !!! LMFAO !! Cheers.
  21. There's a lot of wishfull thinking and nostalgia on this site about Staghounds.... but lets keep our feet firmly on the ground !! I've seen them run, both in the 'States and Australia. They have been bred for generations, from the best, to run certain quarry, on certain land ! We in the UK don't have the same quarry, and the size of the land these lads run makes the fens look like a city park !! Lets be fair; ther's nothing in this country that a decent Bull X or Deer X can't take; so a Stag from the 'States would basicaly die of boredom !! Don't get me wrong; they are tremendous animals at wh
  22. Dan, I know what you're saying; this dog had the look of that bitch about him, and he was bred from Deer/Grey/Saluki/Bull, not sure what percentages, but was worker to worker. He belonged to LDR, but I saw him do the job; a big dog, 28" + but he took everything from rabbits up !! Died doing what he was bred for ! Cheers.
  23. No mate, I think you got great dogs like that by breeding the best to the best ! Just as some of us in the UK try the same !! But then again, we haven't the quarry here that you have over there; we just wish we had !! Cheers. I know you know the game but just wanted to illustrate for some that read too much bullshit off this net. We didnt breed them pencil necked shit eatin deerhounds to a greyhound to produce these coyote dogs. They bred coyote dog to coyote dog to do so. Like I said, I know you knew but had to just say it cause i here this garbage way too much. Dan, I
  24. At the moment I have a bitch that is made up from Bedlington,Whippet,Deerhound & Greyhound. I also have a 1st X Deerhound/Greyhound pup. In the past I've had pure Saluki and Saluki hybrids, also had Whippets and Collie X's, plus quite a few "Bitza's" so I think I can safely say I'm not "breed blind" !! For Whin to slate Whippets, Saluki's and Deerhounds is rediculess, as these breeds along with Greyhounds are probably the basis of most Lurchers ! Duckwing, believe me; there is still lads going north of the border and getting decent bags and most of the good dogs have more than a little
  25. Whin, there are lads from down here who have been cleaning up in your own backyard for years with genuine 1st cross deer/greys !!! If you get out as much as you say you do, I'm supprised you haven't bumped into them !!! Or maybe they just heard you coming and kept out of your way ???? Cheers,
