I bought one in ; she is Beddy/Grey x Deer/Grey-Whippet/Grey, possibly the best allrounder I've had; Cheers. grand looking dog that is the tpe i remember as a lad .........wont be up to whins ,,standards but hey ....what is !!!!! Ach !! That wee dog is a good 'un !! Who ever hates me wouldn't slate that dog ! She's 4 1/2 year old, taken EVRYTHING ! As good as a dog as you could have !
  2. I bought one in ; she is Beddy/Grey x Deer/Grey-Whippet/Grey, possibly the best allrounder I've had; Cheers.
  3. I started this thread with the best of intentions !! I did'nt want it to become a "Whin" is the know all thread!! I was asking about the "Lurcher" and how it was bred !! After all, the Lurcher has been going long before me, and I'm an old cvnt! So who has had the "old breeds" ? Cheers.
  4. Get your carer to apply for some help mate, not joking, but you are in need of help ! Cheers.
  5. So what has that illiterate nonsence got to do with the origional question ??
  6. Glad I've got you lads talking about "Lurchers & Longdogs" , I've got both in my kennel, don't listen to the lunatics, they talk the talk..... but do they walk the walk ???? Cheers.
  7. Bird, you don't need to put that dog up as a good dog on this thread... I was asking a hypothetical question !! I know for a fact that your dog has done the business ! Cheers.
  8. Riohog, we have had diferences of oppinon before, but obviously we agree about Lurchers ! The Saluki, Whippet,Deerhound, etc. have ALL got a place in the "Lurcher" ! Cheers.
  9. Mate, I wasn't trying to bring the idiots into the discussion! I just wanted to start a new thread about Lurchers, perhaps get some of the lads who have been there, done that, contribute to what I first asked on the thread. Cheers.
  10. For once, I'm not giving MY opinion, just asking others opinions; and I value yours. Isn't this what a forum should be about ? Cheersw.
  11. You're right mate !! But that doesn't realy add much to the discussion ! Cheers.
  12. I agree entirely, but I have a classic bred "Longdog" and "Lurcher", and to anyone looking at them, they look the same "breed" ! Cheers.
  13. To expand on my post, what would you class as the "old lurcher type" ? Not having a go mate, just trying to get a decent post about Lurchers going ! Cheers.
  14. We all have our own opinion of what a "Lurcher" is; but what is it exactly..... A Beddy x Whippet is a Lurcher, as is a Wolfhound x Greyhound, ( OK, thats a "longdog", if you want to be pedantic), but you can see what I mean ! !7" to 34"; they're still Lurchers !! The Saluki Hybrid is now probably a seperate breed, they have been bred for one thing, and excell at it! Should they still be called "Lurchers" ? A rabbiting/ferreting dog isn't the same as a big dog bred for deer, I'm talking pre ban, of course, but should they all be called "Lurchers" ? The Terrier world has everything from the Yor
  15. Deerhound X's aren't some mythical beast, that can only work in the swirling mists of a heather covered mountain in Scotland...... I've seen quite a few that are more than decent allrounders. Cheers.
  16. I'm quite happy to show my "out of condition, big pets" on here, you, it seems won't show your super dogs....... As you say, each to their own .
  17. You've spent the last few days and three threads telling us how shit Deer X's were; now you want one for your 'keeper mate ??? WHOOPS, Here comes the missus with the walking stick !!!!!!!!!!
  18. I tell you what if i reply to another one- you hit me and if you do i can hit you lol It's a shame he fvcks up so many decent threads thought ! Cheers.
  19. My missus has just told me, if I reply to Whin again, she will beat me over the head with my own walking stick !! Ah well, she does talk more sense than Whin !! Cheers.
  20. Whin, you don't ask civil questions mate !! You jump on every thread and tell us all that the dogs we are talking about, wether it be Deerhounds, Saluki's, Whippets, etc., are shit and not as good as your dogs or the dogs you had or the dogs your mates in America have !! EVERY SINGLE THREAD is the same reply !! You are the only "true hunter", no one else tests their dogs, only you !! I've had numerous PM's asking if you are mad, crazy, etc.; my reply has been that I don't know you, and don't realy want to !! Get a life mate ! Cheers.
  21. I'm not talking Fen dogs or match dogs, I'm talking genuine, all round dogs !! You move the goal posts so often it makes me dzzy !! I know of Deer X's right now, this minute, that would make your hair curl !! You sound like an amateur, mate, not the seasoned dog man you claim to be ! If you haven't seen any good Deer X's... so be it, you aren't looking in the right places ! Cheers.
  22. Whin, stop being a dope, mate !! Obviously I can't tell you the last time I caught a hare, unless it was pre ban !! But believe me, there are Deer X's around who would do winter hares if the ban wasn't here !! I used to show pics of my catches, but some arseholes caused trouble; so no pics of catches now !! If you honestly think that there isn't Deer X's doing the business now, then you are not realy in the game ! Cheers.
  23. I wondered how long it would be before you came on with youre inane and illiterate comments !! Whin, I've owned and ran all types of pure and cross bred dogs for over 40 years, not just here, but all over the world...and seen your super dogs down in the south of the States, and yes, they are great dogs, just like the Boar Dogs in Oz and NZ, and the Salukis, Sloughi's, Tazi's and Borzois of the Middle East, Africa, Central Asia, etc. !! But we are talking about DEERHOUND X's HERE IN THE UK !! As far as I'm concerned, they have NEVER been away, and are no worse, probably better, than the dogs of
  24. I know what you mean about holding them back, BL; mine is only 9 month, and my heart is in my mouth when she takes off on a "fun run" across the plough, or takes a sheep netting fence in her stride at full speed !! It's easy to see how people with less experience of the bigger breeds might be tempted to start them to soon, but I think they take longer to mature than the "normal" Lurcher breeds. I'm in no hurry with Lima, her training and growing is going well, she'll have all summer to be a pup, and maybe start her around september. Cheers.
