Hi Frank, my arabic is getting a bit rusty now, but Slooqi w theeb, means saluki and wolf in arabic. Judjing by the sound track, they are arabs, and the wolf is more common on the Arabian Penninsula than the Jackal. And yes, the Arabian wolf is smaller than the American or european varieties. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arabian_Wolf Cheers.

well knob.. i wouldnt take out pups that were not ready to get in about, which they obviosly aint, they didnt even have a chew o and as for wantin that dog in your kennels it dont really say much for what your keeping now dos it, ok it went well for a saluki but its work rate etc is absolutly no difference to alot of lurchers that go with things with teeth week in week out... I've got dogs in my kennel that do what I want them to do. There aren't any Arabian Wolves around here, but I had a Saluki that woud kill Wild dogs in the middle east. We see a Saluki shaking an Arabian Wolf to death, and we still get people moaning about the dogs in the background !! F**k the pups in the background !! I would love that dog in my kennel, what have the moaners got in their kennels ? Cheers.

Terrier Champion, (black & tan), and Reserve Champ. Cheers.

Seen a couple of saluki/whippets, and very nice too !! Also seen a saluki/deerhound at Bellingham,, killed while coursing a roe. Cheers.

The last Manchester Terrier I saw here was at Kielder last year when I was fishing. It looked, from a distance, like a small whippet or Italian Greyhound !! The owner assured me it was a pedigree. My daughter owns one in Dubai, and a friend has one in Saudi Arabia, and they are both very protective and agressive to strangers and look like miniature Dobermans !!! I've not heard of anyone working them here, thats not to say they don't. Cheers.

Hi Molly, at Slayley show last year there was a completly seperate show for "Sporting Lucas" terriers. The guy said about 90% of the breed were there. Cheers.

If you are using AA Route Planner, it's Murton, Seaham. It's NOT Murton, Newcastle. Cheers.

Rabbithunter, if I was there I could show you or do it for you, but trying to do it on the net will only confuse. You only need one live wire of the correct rating, for all 4 spots, and they should earth to your car body/engine. Far better to get a auto electrician to do it, if you connect wrongly you are looking at burnt out harness/switches, etc. A relay should only be a pound or so, usually you get them supplied with the spots. Cheers.

I seem to have got hold of the wrong end of the stick, (or rod), I thought this was about eating coarse fish. If they are wiping places out by illegal means, of course they should be stopped !!! Cheers.
-
So it's o.k. to eat a stocked trout, but not a roach or a bream? I've never coarse fished, but know plenty who do, and eat their catch. Is it an ettiquite thing, law, or what ? Cheers.
-
Well, I may inncur the wrath of the coarse fishermen; but as a trout fisher and a lurcher worker, I eat what I catch, so what IS wrong with eating ANY fish you catch ? Cheers.

My lurcher bitch is now 19 month and hasn't had a season yet. I have heard bad things about having injections to stop seasons, so I suppose the only answer is to have a bitch spayed or keep bitches only ! Cheers.

Who on this forum would say they are travellers
chartpolski replied to dickyboy's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Had two turn up at my place, in a transit van, wearing the now obligitory hi viz vests, "we'll pull those tree stumps for £100." says one; "no, I'm doing it myself" says I; "We'll do it for £50, AND get rid of them", says p***y; "no my mates on his way now, with his JCB", says I; "well, what do you want us to do, then", says p***y; "get your van off my property before my mate gets here and removes it with his front bucket" says I as my mate is coming down the drive, they moved on pretty fast. Nowt against tryers, and had some good days out with travellers, but some times the won't take no fo -
Hi, Meerihunter, I have what I consider a lurcher at the moment, Beddy/Grey X Deer/Grey-Whippet/Grey, and she is doing everything I want from her, but in the future, I'm looking for a black and tan Saluki or 3/4 saluki - !/4 Greyhound. I understand they will never be "all rounders", but I have a soft spot for them, I got my old saluki in the middle east at 6 months and had him 'till he was 17 years. Cheers.

Just want to put up a couple of pics of a pure Beduin Saluki, that I owned and worked in the middle east. If this dog was "crap" I would have loved to see a better one!!! Cheers. Without the crude oil. Cheers.
-
Miles, you seem to put my point over a bit better than me. There are "crap" dogs of every breed, but to say "all salukis are crap" is ridiculous. I have never had the oppertunity to see the great salukis or saluki Xs coursing on the fens, apart from on video, but have seen them in their natural enviroment and was lucky enough to own one. I know for a fact people spend a lot of money importing saluki dogs and bitches to enhance the coursing blood in this country. For someone to say "all salukis are crap" simply shows they know nothing on the subject. Cheers.
-
IMO a "cur" is a dog of unknown lineage, and why on earth would any one in this country would want a Ridgeback X ? In countries where they hunt feral pig/wild boar they have a place, but not with the quarry, legally or illegally, that we have. Cheers.

You haven't got a clue about Salukis to make such a statement !!! Cheers. You just don't like the truth mate do you. You think your so high and mighty coming on these sites saying you have hunted this here and that there with these dogs. It don't make you any better than anyone else and it don't mean you deserve more respect than anyone else. Your just a dog man like everyone else. In fact there are probably people on these sites with far more knowledge than you about dogs and hunting. The fact is mate pure salukis are crap and a lurcher is far superior wither you like it or not

Hi, Smoothrun, I lived in the middle east for 26 yrs, and owned and run a beduin bred saluki for 17 years. He would take anything from rat to Pariah, (desert dog). Lets not forget the saluki is running a desert hare on it's own ground, sand, shale. cactus and scub brush at tempratures up to 140f. Salukis are not out right speed machines but have fantastic staying power, exactly whats needed in the desert. I doubt any of our lurcher types could do the same. Obviously we cross salukis with greyhounds to try and get the best of both worlds, speed and stamina. Cheers.

What was wrong with the thread, I read it and was going to add my experiences with feral cats, and dogs, in the middle east. My Saluki took them for fun, but was nowhere as adept as my Doberman, a back hold, one quick shake and it was over. These were genuine feral cats, living and breeding in the wild, no chance of being someones pet. Was something going on behind the scenes with the thread ? Cheers.

Sorry, read it wrong, but your amperages seem a bit high for a shed. Cheers.
