Talking about a "Kurdish" is a bit like talking about a Minshaw, or a Plummer ! Saluki's are a breed in the middle east, but different tribes have different dogs !! Some areas they are smooth, other areas they are well hairy !! Your "Taigan" "Sloughi" "Azawak", etc are from the same Bedu breeds !! If you spoke Arabic; Saluki and Sloughi are the same thing !! I'm not knocking the pure Arabic Saluki, in fact I think we need more of them here, but lets not make them into some mythical beast !! Cheers.

what you got to remember poach is its not just us lot that mix breeds , they have been crossing azawakh ,sloughi saluki, galgo for hundreds of years and greys , so whay im saying is like today your old dad could quite of easaly seen a cross breed I was in Hamed Ghanem's kennels last year, and as he was driving me and my daughter back from Abu Dhabi to Dubai, I asked him if he prefered feathered to smooth; and he said "what are you talking about ? I breed best worker to worker, never mind coat" ! Fair play !! Cheers. Same old rubbish if it smooth it has to be a cross the own

Strike oil did we In the Middle East deserts there are pools of oil that well up to the surface. The wind blows sand across them and forms a crust. Many a 4 wheel driver or biker has fallen foul of them. This instance the hare went across, but the dog went through !! It took some time and a lot of "Fairy Liquid" to clean him up. Cheers.

I've only owned one genuine, 100%, desert bred Saluki dog. His whole life and hunting career was spent with me in the Middle East. He was PTS at 17 year old. How I wish I had him here to mate some of the Lurchers I've had....... Cheers.

I'm not well up on pure saluki breeding in the U.K.; but to bring in genuine, working bred stock from coo can only be good for the breed, and also good for future Saluki Lurchers. Cheers.

"What's easier for a dog; Hare or Roe" ? Bit of a daft question in my oppinion. I've seen hares taken out of their seat by dogs that couldn't catch a hare given fair law...also seen roe bounce of fences and taken by curs that shouldn't be in the same field ! Either animal, given fair law, daytime, is more than a match for all but the best dogs ! Cheers.
-
I'm supprised there are any roe left in this country...... they are so easy to catch; and everyones dogs do them with ease !! Cheers.
-
How many roe have you "blown over" mate ? Cheers.
-
I've seen dogs straightlined by hare and roe, daytime.... also seen the same dogs take hare and roe fairly easily at other times. There are a lot of variables with running certain quarry; such as time of year, type of land, and even weather conditions, One thing I will say, anyone who says daytime roe are easy, let me know where you are running them, 'cause the buggers aint easy up here !! LOL !! Cheers.

Get some pics up of the inside mate ! I imagine there is electricity, plumbed water, drainage, etc ; if the outside is anything to go by !! Top class job !! Cheers.
-
Beautiful dog ! Best of luck with it, I'm sure you'll get the best out of him ! Cheers.

All the resavoirs around here , Derwent, Kielder, Fontburn, are fishing well, fly and bait, at the moment. Maybe the change in the weather ? Cheers.

Cheers. ah but mister chartposki you own a deerhound x so you will stick up for them me personly woul rather something smaller cheaper to feed that you dont need a field a mile long and wide for them to get up to top speed and turn imo I also own a Beddy X, and have owned most X's and purebreds, and as I said, I'm not breed blind. Only speaking as I've seen; how

Lure coursing - harmless fun or ........
chartpolski replied to david2363's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I believe alot of the non ped raceing people will not let their dogs see live quarry as pups as the dogs are in the learning process but have heard them running rabbits when older.I am going on when a mate whos now retired from work was running a pup on for another mate a well known lad on the non ped raceing scene and from a 12 week old pup he would take him down to the allotment to spend the day with him .The path to the allotments young rabbits would be running about and the pup managed to catch one when it was 4 and half month old and another at 5 month the lad who he was running it on for -

Lure coursing - harmless fun or ........
chartpolski replied to david2363's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
That's the part I don't understand....... a dog that runs like a "Lurcher", cutting the corners and getting to the rag first, gets penalised, yet the dog that simply follows the rag thru' the gates wins !!! Nothing against people lure coursing, but I can't see how the best dog wins under those rules ? Cheers. -
Wuyang; off topic, but your avatar made me smile. I remember when I was in South East Asia, the record I saw for most on a motor bike was 2 adults, three toddlers, a baby, a basket of washing and a dog in the basket !!!!! All on a Honda step thru' !!!! Cheers.

I agree with you 100% poach. I've nothing against Lurchers having a run behind a lure for a laugh, in fact I walk my dogs to the local Whippet track, 3 mile, give them a run or two, then walk back, it's a bit different to normal excersize. I'ts the people who are breeding "Lurchers" 15/16th or even more, Greyhound blood and take the racing so seriously. As you say, why not just get a Whippet or Greyhound and do it properly; under rules and out of traps ? Cheers.
