There are people who are either ignorant, blasé or arrogant of what they can and can't do in the Middle East. The days of adventurers, archaeologists, etc going on digs and bringing treasure out of these countries ended long ago, when we retreated from east of suez. There is still a huge black market in antiquities, but the punishment can be draconian. Theres the old sayings " when in Rome........" and "if you can't do the time.......". In this case, he will probably not serve the full time, he most likely will be released after a while on medical or humanitarian grounds, a

I throw the odd one in to keep him on his toes ! ?? ! (that's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it ! ). Cheers.

The rise of UKIP forced Cameron to give us a referendum on the EU, he was confident that it would be a "Remain" majority, but we proved him wrong, and it cost him his job. He would never have given us a referendum if UKIP hadn't won the EU elections and got four million votes in the UK election. Sadly, due to our "first passed the post" voting system, UKIP's votes didn't turn into seats, but scared the shit out of the mainstream parties, so yes, voting can bring change, maybe not to who's in charge, but maybe to the way they think ? Cheers.

The vote does count, even voting for the main parties, (although I'll probably be voting for an independent or the Reform Party). The confidence vote yesterday was for a variety of reasons; least of all "partygate", many Tory MP's used that as an excuse for personal greivances against Boris. The Spartans voted against Boris because they think he isn't going far or fast enough with Brexit. The Remainers, and there's many of them in the Tory party, think " if Boris goes......Brexit goes". The "Red Wall" Torys , who owe their seats entirely to Boris, think he's now toxic with

My dad lied about his age and joined the Royal Navy at 15 in the mistaken belief he would join his older brother, not knowing the Navy had a policy of not letting brothers sail on the same ship. He saw action from the Murmansk convoys in the Arctic circle to shelling Burma in south east Asia, as well as in the Atlantic and Mediterranean. He sailed on ships as diverse as Tribal Class destroyers, HMS Nubian, and aircraft carriers, HMS Ark Royal, and finished the war with a chest full of campaign medals. After the war, he never travelled abroad again, or even had a passport, until

A pal of mine who worked on the rigs used to bring me a hold-all of gear back now and again. It included a couple of pairs of "Buffalo" gloves. I think that is the trade or manufactures name. As you say, they were thick, yellow leather with red cambrelle lining. Far too heavy for any dexterous work, but fine for pulling brambles, etc. The rest of the gear was "Red Wing", yank gear that we also used in Saudi, top class, expensive kit, maybe the gloves were a subsidiary of "Red Wing" ? Cheers.

I really don't know mate. If he wins the vote well, he may decide he can turn his fortunes round in the next two years. Or he could just say "f**k it, I don't need the hassle, and can make more money out of politics" ! Then there's "the Carrie Factor", if she has his ear as much as people think, what will she tell him to do ? As the Chinese say; " we live in interesting times" ? Cheers.

I think he will win the vote of confidence. If he goes, who will replace him ? Whatever anyone thinks of Boris, there's no obvious candidate to step in. The Conservative MP's better realise what will happen if Boris goes....... Labour will almost certainly win the next election. Cheers.

To be honest, it's none of my business, I was just commenting on show judges, and I used to do a fair bit of judging ! In fact, the only two shows I've been to this year are the ones who's rosettes you showed ! I was talking to some of the Terrier men there, and I can guarantee that some of them work there dogs a great deal, others only show.......that's their business ? Cheers.

So would I mate, if I could kill the first hare I slipped on every day for 12 days I'd be a happy man, but this guy intimated it was one after the other on the same day !!! Cheers. -

I remember a bloke bragging about killing 12/12......it later came out that it was over a two week period ! Cheers. -
A dog show judge can only judge on conformation, they can't tell a dogs working capability simply by looking it over. There are some very good judges who also work dogs. There are some who just do it to help out and quite frankly couldn't tell a pastern from a hock. And there are the corrupt judges who take care of their mates. The only thing they have in common is that they can't tell if a dog is a worker or not, unless they've actually seen it work. Cheers.

No mate, maybe he knows better than me ? Cheers.

It was better than the Argies kit......... The Falklands parka is still a much sought after piece of kit ? Cheers.

FFS Born, you're our "go to" military consultant ! Get your act together ! ?? ! Cheers.

I did a bit of work on the RFA Round Table Class ships before the Falklands war. I was loaned to Napier to help out overhauling the blowers on the diesels. I was quite supprised to see the number of Formosan crews and American Engineering Officers. Cheers.

Yeah, Typp bred a litter of greyhound/poodles. Never heard of any of them making the grade. Cheers.

I don't know the answer to this.....the UK banned handguns and made all other firearms very hard to get, but that didn't stop the atrocities. The Manchester Arena bombing was done with ingredients that can be bought at Asda and B & Q. Anyone who is fanatical enough can kill numbers of people in many ways, like driving an HGV into a crowd, building a bomb, running amok with a blade. Of course, the ease with which guns are available in America is a huge contributing factor, but would banning guns stop the fanatical nutter ? I doubt it, but it might make it harder for them.

My son went to boarding school in Ashby de la Zouche, Leicester, and I visited on many occasions, and, on reflection, I'd rather stay in the North East, thanks ?? Cheers. -

I don't think any of the recent dogs will make a "name" for themselves comparable to the old dogs like Lucky, simply because they don't get the same exposure due to the draconian anti hunting laws . The coursing comps like the Forley were eagerly awaited and well attended, but now they exist, if at all, in name only and are surreptitiously ran and sparsely attended. I used to attend my local coursing club, The Border & Coquetdale, and there would be hundreds there. A mornings coursing, then into the Three Wheats Head at Thropton for lunch and the craic, then back out for the afte -

There's a Wetherspoons next to the big car park, allways decent for a cheap pint and a meal ? Cheers.
