  1. I had pure Salukis when I lived there, but never seen any of the racing. We flew loads of gazelle "droppers" in from Africa for them to course but sadly never got invited. A friend of my daughter, Sheik Hamad Guhnaim, of " Hounds of Arabia" fame, invited me to his kennels in Abu Dhabi and his Falconry Mews in Dubai, and he had a mixture of smooth and feathered and I asked him which he preferred, he said coat or colour didn't matter, it was breeding and performance that counted. In reply to Gene, as I said, I never seen any racing, but I know some owners bred Greyhound into the s
  2. No mate she's not from Platt. Her sire is my mates deerhound that has a lot of Doxhope blood, and her dam is an Irish coursing Greyhound bitch sired by Mafi Majic, the Irish coursing champion, that a pal sent over for the breeding. Cheers.
  3. Yes mate, I was talking to Sky Warriors owner a few months back at an open race at Wallsend Rising Sun. Hes one of the few dogs that could run under 8 seconds for 150 yards, extremely fast, and just the type of scratch dog I mentioned as being the type of stud for my bitch. Is your pup out of Max's Fettle bred bitch ? Cheers.
  4. He's retired and living in anonymity in a remote location diametrically opposed to his supposed abode in Canada. Julian Assange told me ! ? ! Cheers.
  5. Reminds me of deer x pups I've had in the past ? These two were 12 years apart, but very similar; Cheers.
  6. As usual, mate, this is just MY opinion. I doubt many, if any , of the non-ped people work there dogs, for exactlythe reason you state; they wouldn't risk the injuries. Their goal is to win Open races, get Raching Champion titles, and they get their dogs to the peak of condition at the right times and breed the best to the best. I still go to my local tracks and enjoy the craic and like to keep up with what's doing the winning. If I think this young deer x I have is worth breeding from, I'd have no hesitation in putting her to a big scratch dog. Many years ago, our non
  7. I think the lines may be getting a bit blurred now, with racers and workers being crossed, so maybe not so much difference these days ? Cheers.
  8. A true story about passport renewals; At one time children didn't need passports and could be put on their parents. When they reached a certain age, 16, I think it was, they had to get their own passports. My two children reached the point they needed their own passports, so we went along to the British Consulate in Jeddah. The E.C.O. at the time was a friend of mine and said the kids photos needed signing by a professional " of good standing". I noticed a man in the queue who I recognised as a pilot from the airline I worked for, and asked if he was ok to sign the pho
  9. Now this is just my opinion, and others may disagree, but I think racing bred whippets are faster than working bred, but lack the stamina of the working type. Ive seen working types lamp rabbits all night, but the racing types seem to tire a lot quicker. I used racing types for daytime hare and lamping, but they were the non-ped type, not pedigree whippets. Cheers.
  10. British Consuls could issue passports at one time, but not now. They can issue emergency travel documents in an emergency. My son was Entry Clearance Officer at The Consulate in Saudi Arabia, and used to issue passports, then it was centralised in the UK, run by Border Force. My grandsons passport renewal was applied for at the Consulate , but it was sent to the UK for renewal. It took weeks and had to pay for DHL to deliver it to Saudi. Before, it could be renewed same day at the Consulate and no postage fees. So much for progress........ Cheers.
  11. Maybe the Russian Central Bank has simply taken a leaf out of The Bank of England's book and printed billions of rubles to buy worthless Government bonds ? It used to be called "printing money"......now it's called "quantitative easing" ! ? ! We worry about the trillion pounds of debt we are supposed to have, but it's estimated that between 1/3 and 2/3 of that is money the government has borrowed off itself and never needs paying back ! But hey , I'm just an old retired engineer, not an economist, and have about as much clue as to what's going on as the average man in the street
  12. C'mon lads ! Get with the program ! The Russians are being paid by : The New World Order/The Rothschilds/The Freemasons/ The Illuminati/The Bilderberggers/The Trilateral Commision/ or whichever bogie man is in vogue these days, to ruin the world economy so they can rule the world ! Cheers.
  13. No, I don't think it should be compulsory to vote, for the simple reason there may not be anyone on the ballot worthy of your vote. Saying that, I try to vote every time, I wouldn't feel right debating politics if I couldn't be bothered to vote, but I wouldn't like being forced to do it. ? Cheers.
  14. There are very, VERY few politicians who are on our side, but there are one or two. Lee Anderson, who has been terribly misquoted and monstered about his comments on food banks is one, but he was Labour, and went over to Tory, so the left was allways just waiting to destroy him. The Tories talk about immigration and come up with grand ideas that never reach fruition, but let's not forget, it was those two odious creatures, Blair and Mandleson who threw open the doors to unlimited immigration, and it's the left that will do everything they can to prevent the Rwanda plan proceeding.
  15. I thought it was the mechanical one that you hit with a hammer ! This is mine; Cheers.
  16. Not sure about Draper, but all the impact drivers I've had you turn to set them in the same direction you want the screw to go. If you want to loosen a screw, turn the driver anti clockwise to set it. Cheers.
  17. But it was the JUDGE that told me ! ? ! No wonder I don't look happy ! ? ! Cheers.
  18. I was told yesterday that my pup is a pure deerhound ! ? ! S Cheers.
  19. I support very few shows these days. Two weeks ago I went to my local hunt show, The Tynedale. It was well supported, but no trade stands. Yesterday I was at the Fell & Moorland show at Blanchland, again, well supported but no trade stands. They seem to be more of a family day out with pet dogs, rather than working dogs, but if they help to financially support the Hunts and the likes of the Fell & Moorland, good luck to them ? Cheers.
  20. Phone them or email them. Scampston Hall - Yorkshire Game & Country Fair - Malton, North Yorkshire WWW.SCAMPSTON.CO.UK The lurchers were on both days in the past when a friend of mine ran it, but it's under new management now, so best to check with them ? Cheers.
  21. When I picked my last pup, there were three bitches in the litter, they were like peas in a pod, so I picked the one that came to me first ! Cheers.
  22. I don't consider him a lost cause just yet ! A challenge, certainly, but I've known far worse. At least he's entertains, doesn't seem to get annoyed or get too abusive. I've taken him on as a sort of project, something to challenge my mind in my old age ! if I can educate him, if I can get him to widen his horizons, maybe even see other points of view.......then my work on this earth will not have been in vain ?? Ive allways been a supreme optimist! Cheers.
  23. Must be ! The rest of us have applied for the job, just waiting to hear back before I book my ticket ? Oh ! Hold on, I thought they were on about JCB front end and back end loaders ! Sorry, my mistake ? Cheers.
