  1. I’ve had them stand their ground barking at me ? not had one attack me yet but with the size of some of them it wouldn’t surprise me if one fancied it’s chances ?
  2. We’ll keep an eye on it and as soon as we can get out we will, I’m going to have to get out for a walk around the sheep farm in the morning, raining or not, it’s not good for me being inside this much
  3. There’s few deer using it, I’ve started putting a few carrots along the edge of the field, we need a bit of snow to cover things so the all head for the feeders. I didn’t see any this morning but there’s plenty of fresh slots about
  4. Back at the feeding this morning and the fog was so thick a few of the birds were still on roost at 8:30, they have grouped back up around the pens and are in good numbers over the piggeries so with another 12 days before our next go at them we should still have a few good drives I was hoping to get up there tonight for a call, but the fog has been there for 2 days now and shows no sign of clearing, it’s Sod’s law I’ve got this time off and the weather is sh*t
  5. Although I would know that as a stoat ( black tip to the tail ) it’s also known in some parts as a short tailed weasel the easiest way to tell a weasel from a stoat is the tail, stoats have a black tip and a weasel has a thin brown tail, this is what an old boy told me so someone may correct me
  6. On a cleaning note, my .17 CZ doesn’t get cleaned very often at all and shoots very accurately for some reason the .17 browning seems to need a proper clean every hundred rounds or so, you know when it’s due because the breach gets very dirty for some reason the Cz doesn’t do this
  7. This is worth a go if you come across it ?
  8. Merry Christmas puff gun lads ???
  9. I hope you are all well soon, I’m off for a while now so when you feel up to it just let me know and we’ll get out ?
  10. Merry Christmas to you all hope you all have a lovely day and get everything you want ( for me that’s peace and quiet) roll on 7am Monday morning when my family enforced house arrest comes to an end ??
  11. They have wrecked trees up at the shoot, even ring barking a couple and killing them, forestry don’t seem to do anything about them, maybe it just comes down to time and money, if I take on the keepering next season I think I’ll put a few squirrel feeder up, might as well have a bit of fun while I’m up there ?
  12. We’ve got loads on the shoot, I haven’t kept count of how many I’ve shot this year because I just shoot them mainly off the feeders as I’m going round on the quad, but it’s a lot, I’ll be taking a few young guns from the shoot in February for a squizzer shoot and drey blasting
  13. To be fair I shoot rabbits and squirrels with the.243 and that works out about £1.70 each ? the price of ammo is ridiculous now
  14. You can sell them on eBay, squirrel tails, jay, magpie, pheasant wings, they don’t do a lot of money but you might make a few quid
  15. I got 250 clear pigeon yesterday for my seasonal wandering’s with my sheep farmer mate, 85 quid, I almost fell over, it makes you think twice about pulling the trigger
  16. It did a fair bit of damage with us, with a good few posts down and a couple of trees down on the wire, my third pen, over what I know as the valley is wrecked and hasn’t been used for a couple of years, I said this to the shoot captain earlier and all he said was “ it won’t take you long to put it right “ ?
  17. It’s a nice compliment and they’ll look after me ( I got a very big tip off them all last Saturday) it’s not all about the money, once the birds are in I like doing it and I know I can make a couple of new drives, if I decide to do it I’ll start work on it as soon as the season finishes, instead of rushing about in June and July Get on them lemsips mate, we need to get out on these deer after Boxing Day ?
  18. Feeding at first light this morning and there’s still a good few about, they are holed up where it’s dry and warm, it was absolutely freezing there this morning with a bitter wind. There’s a few roe deer knocking around, it wasn’t long ago that you didn’t see them around these parts I’ve just had the shoot captain on the phone asking what was about and where they were, he then went on to ask, did I want to do it next season, did I want to put another 400 birds down and did I want to repair the valley pen or put another pen up ( possibly over the piggeries) steady on I said, let’s get thi
  19. I did a couple of hours on Monday and that’s it for me until I get sick of been off and go back some time in January, I was meant to of finished over a week ago but couldn’t get off the job because the lad wanted to move in for Christmas don’t get any time off from the flying chickens though
  20. Did you put in for a sound mod to go with that Dave ? ?
  21. You can’t predict the weather but one thing’s for certain, a few birds, a few shots, some nice nibbles and some good people and it’s going to be a good day ? ( just got fingers crossed that we get to see the season out now, without another bloody lockdown ?)
  22. Lovely end to the day, finished for the year, new boiler fitted, so house nice and warm and cottage pie, roastie’s and a bit of veg ?
  23. Not true ? my RFD has a load of Winchester and a few hornady but the other week had none, it’s a bit hit and miss when they get them in but that’s the same with a lot of ammo at the minute
  24. Still nice to be out, hoping to be out a few days myself over the festive period ?
