  1. Day number 2 over and done with and what a cracking day ( the guns words, not mine ) first drive was the tip drive and as on the first day this didn’t get going until halfway through the drive, I had one out of control dog on this one that push a big group of birds out the top of the drive towards Gordon’s pen, I wasn’t happy about this but to be fair if all them birds had of stayed in the drive it would of been a massacre. Back to the yard now for a sloe gin and a bit of pork and apple pie. Drive number 2, Oakwood, again started off very slow with a few shots then we turned the drive to push
  2. DRUM ROLL PLEASE ? name pulled from my hat ?
  3. That’s an idea, no name from a hat, just the public humiliation of a dad dance off
  4. I’ll pull a name from my hat when I get in from shooting tomorrow It’s between Mr Sausage and Patterdale, best of luck ? the tension is palpable ? And whoever wins it doesn’t need to pay the postage ?
  5. Pre shoot day feeding this afternoon and the dog walkers show no sign of letting up, but I suppose it’s just something I’ll have to live with as if this was private land we as a syndicate certainly couldn’t afford to shoot here, the birds are looking in tip top condition now and were heading back to the pens when I arrived mid afternoon, I’ve made a little plan of what drives we’ll be doing tomorrow but they are not set in stone so I may switch things about a bit, I left just after sun set and over in the west was a lovely orange sun set and to the east was a very bright full moon rising over
  6. There’s a few, but because I’ve been feeding them along the edge of the wood, that’s where they are heading now on a morning, it was wet up there last week and they don’t like being in the rape when it’s wet I’ve’ got the shoot captain shooting on Saturday ( it’s very rare that he shoots there and it means more work for me ) so there should be a few more downed, along with another guest, shooting for one of the members and he’s a good shot as well
  7. That’s another tonne bagged up, the only part of the job I really hate, they are going to have to shoot a few on Saturday or I’m going to have to start starving them to death with the price of this wheat
  8. I’m also a bit odd, I’m right handed but if I use anything like a golf club or hockey stick I use them left handed, but if it’s a racket or something where I only use 1 hand I use my right, I can’t even hold a gun properly right handed but can shoot a pistol with both, oh, and when winking I can only close my right eye and keep my left open, if I try to just close my left the both close ? when I was looking at the Bergara I’d seen them before but hadn’t give them much attention, the lad in the shop said you won’t buy anything with a better barrel, they are made in Spain ( Bergara) at one
  9. When I was looking for a foxing rifle I had my heart set on a .22-250 and speaking to the lad at Bradford Stalking ( up near FH) he showed me the Bergara and for the money it was a very nice bit of kit and I was going to have one, then he tried to get it in lefty for me and was told it would be special order and would take months to arrive and the price was getting up to Sako prices, in the end I made do with the Tikka .223 and although I didn’t really want one it’s turned out to be more than up to the job ?
  10. At least you are out having a go mate, you won’t get anything sat in front of the telly ?
  11. That sounds like a cracking day, good mates, good host, good people and a few good birds to top it off ?
  12. Feeding this afternoon and I’m pleased to say that the place wasn’t full of dog walkers and there was plenty of birds about, they had cleared up all the feed I’d put down on Saturday and hammered a few feeders, with how quickly we are losing the light now the birds were heading back in when I got there at 3, so it was a quick feed around the pens and then over the far side where I knew they wouldn’t be that time of day, the sunset was a bit special this evening, it looked like the sky was on fire
  13. You don’t have to feel left out because your not a proper size man, I can send you a sleeve and you can use it as a sleeping bag ?
  14. Careful, you won’t get that front stuffer loaded before you get mobbed
  15. I’ve been given a Sherwood Forest fleece jacket, it’s new and has never been worn, it’s very thick and warm, it won’t get any use here, so if anyone would like it please let me know, I’ll leave it until the weekend and if more than one wants it I’ll pull a name from a hat, if no one wants it then you are an ungrateful pack of buggers ? the size is xl, I’m a full size man and it fits me ?
  16. That will be about right for my missus, she’s an accountant, you don’t get more crooked than them ?
  17. For the same reason it’s why the police have unmarked ones around here ?
  18. A mates got a golf R and it looks the part but they are not a patch on the s3, the missus had a 67 plate black addition s3 ( my weekend car ) and that was faster and handled far better than the golf, she chopped it in to be the first person to have the new S3, ( she wanted the new RS3 but was told it would be another year before it was out ) that’s like driving a spaceship it’s got some very nice bits from Porsche and Lamborghini in the interior and the iPad dash ( it’s just a posh handbag to her ) another mate of mine bought a 10 plate s3 during lockdown, low mileage, in mint condition, kept
  19. They’ll do the job ? Purple fury doesn’t immediately bring shotgun cartridges to mind ?
  20. I can’t remember what loads I was shooting in it, what I do remember is the stock on the thing was like a fence rail and wrecked my shoulder, I only fired about half a dozen through it and that was enough for me
  21. I had a go at geese with an old AYA 10 bore and it had a hell of a kick to it, it would break your skinny Welsh arse in half ?
