    I was very late to NV, I’d used it a few times but always used to like been out with my mate Mosh with the lamp, when he had his heart attack it changed how I did things and who I went out with, after you have done things a certain way for so long with one person you don’t even need to speak to each other and it never works as well with someone new, I’ve got used to the NV on the .223 now and it works very well if I’m out on my own or with someone else, that’s not to say I don’t enjoy a run out with the lamp Thermal is a complete game changer as a spotter, nothing escapes it and even if y

    Before everyone switched to nv and thermal a keeper I know would only ever use white for that very reason, I always struggled spotting with anything other than red, someone else I used to go out with used to use green ( don’t know why) and I couldn’t see anything with that

    It seems like a lucky dip on how it’s going to affect people, my brother had it and only knew because he lost his sense of taste, his 19 year old son had it and he’s as fit as they come and it put him in bed for a week, very ill, nether of them had had the vaccine

    It’s definitely spreading fast, I’ve been told of another 2 people who have tested positive today, luckily they are not really ill from it, I’m definitely advising that everyone takes a test before shooting on Saturday ( I’m sure some will ignore it because they are dickheads that only think of themselves) I’m guessing the infection numbers will be through the roof by the weekend

    My shoot secretary is spot on with his emails and rules to be followed, but he can only do so much, I’ve got a few people there that I’d like to take a test in front of me but sadly I can’t do that, the checking of temperatures is definitely been done again, we’ve got too many old members and I’d hate to think one of them ended up very ill because of someone’s selfishness

    I know a few people who have it and they are all fully vaccinated, I’m starting to think that everyone who comes on a shoot day will have to be tested, because we have got a couple of selfish idiots that would come if they had it and wouldn’t say anything

    My guests always get preferential treatment, that’s mainly because I run it, so I do what I want ? there’s no point travelling all that way to shoot a few drives when you can shoot them all, you have more chance of them shooting birds over your head than doffing their caps to you ?

    I’d be happy with 46 any time of the year with my shotgun skills ( or lack of them ?) like you say just been out with an old mate makes the day, I’m always happier when I’m out with me old mate Mosh, that’s not to say I don’t mind yours or longshanx’s company now and then ??

    Back up to feed this morning and although a bit damp and cloudy with the temperature it was like a spring day, now as we shoot a week tomorrow I decided to take the thermal with me to give me a better look at what’s about, I was very pleased with what I seen in a couple of the drives and I wouldn’t of seen as many without the thermal, I also spotted a few deer in the thick cover over the piggeries, again I wouldn’t of seen these without the thermal, I’ve also got another ginger taking bait over the far side of the piggeries and it’s just to smart to go in the trap, so that’s another to have a

    Clear out the fridge soup ( carrots, onions, new spuds, garlic, chilli, kale, couchette) probably some other stuff I forgot and toad in the hole for tea ?

    That’s exactly how it was, flocked up and windy, one shot and off, there’s loads about, I normally wouldn’t bother but the farm owner rang me and as I’m the only person who shoots up there and as I want to keep it that way I thought I’d better go, it’s a bit of fun and I haven’t done it for a long time

    The farms I shoot are always good for a walk and call but I’ve definitely got a few places where it’s best to wait it out and call them in, sometimes it can be a couple of hours before it produces a result bit of pigeon shooting today on the rape at the sheep farm, they are not decoying very well, but there’s loads about and I’ve actually hit a few ?

    There’s a couple of places there where it’s just best to wait it out, where I was last night I can see almost the full field and all the back of the farm, over the piggeries is always good for a wander

    We have a few pig units around us and they do attract foxes but the one time I went to York was an eye opener, where it was wasn’t far from some houses and the lad said they just keep coming, he lives in Doncaster and won’t give it up because there always foxes there, the greedy bugger won’t let me in on the action ether ?

    I’ve always wanted a pig farm, a lad I know has 2 he shoots just outside of York and he gets a lot of foxes from them

    After early release from my seasonal house arrest due to good behaviour and a break in the weather I decided to celebrate with a trip to the shoot, on arrival, approximately half 8, the night looked perfect, No moon, very dark with a slight breeze, I headed to my favourite stand at the bottom of the field where I can see right along the oak wood and a fair bit of the tip drive to my left. As I set the caller 60 paces in front of me I heard a fox bark, I had no idea where it came from because me hearing is terrible but thought sexy vixen was worth a go.
