Feeding this morning before it got to wild, it was very cold ? up there and the birds were sitting very tight in the thick cover, they were also in the dark / dry wood drives, now we are heading into the depth of winter the amount of drives I have become limited but the 4 main drives ( piggeries tree side and ruff side, forestry pen and Gordon’s pen ) become better for the next couple of shoots, the amount of tree rats is ridiculous, it doesn’t matter how many I shoot it doesn’t look like I’ve shot any, I’m going to treat the young guns to a squizzer day in February. I also checked my camera a

Pot roast beef today, gravy made from all the gubbins in the pot ( little tip, don’t use flour in your gravy, when doing it in a pot put a good size spud in, when I blend it all it thickens the gravy ?)

Day 3 over and done with, it was one of the best days we’ve had ( so all the messages are saying), drive number one was the usual tip drive, from the off the birds were getting up over the guns at a good height and continued to get up right til the very end of the drive, drive two, Gordon’s pen, now although this drive is next to the tip drive and we knew some birds would of moved out from it, there was still a good show and the guns that were down on the forestry track had some very high fast birds over them. Now time for elevenses, soup, sausages with red onions, chocolate cakes and sloe gin

Lovely stuff, I’m struggling to think of a better way to spend a day ?

Feeding today before another shoot day tomorrow, they are hammering the feeders at the minute with this snow and cold winds we are getting, for some reason a big group of birds have decided to spend the day around the farm buildings in all the years I’ve been going up there they have never done this. After feeding it was out with the chainsaw to clear the tracks of fallen trees, hour and half later I can now get around on the quad again, a couple of guest guns tomorrow ( one of them from the family that owns 90% of the land I shoot on ) so with a bit of luck we’ll put some good birds over them

There’s quite a few, sadly all in the dark, I did see a small group of doe’s in the thick this afternoon, we are shooting this Saturday but I’m not planning on doing the ruff side of the piggeries where the deer are at the minute, so I’ll check the camera on Friday and if it looks good we can have a look out ?

Spaghetti bolognese from scratch ( none of that from a jar sh*t ) 2 hours slow simmer ?
-
Feeding today and there’s even more trees down than when I left on Saturday and there’s a few places I can’t get the quad to so Friday morning will be a chainsaw morning, the snow has all but gone and the birds have hammered the feeders while the snow was on the ground, I’m not only feeding pheasants but I’m also feeding Rudolph ? when I went through the ruff side of the piggeries I seen a white flash, stopping the bike there was 4 or 5 fallow doe’s about 15 yards from me, they do tend to winter where they were due to the warmth of the thick cover

My missus is an accountant for the NHS and the hole system is just a numbers game, ( a completely broken numbers game at that ) doctors don’t run hospitals, accountants do and once you start getting into management positions the wages and pensions are unbelievable compared to the private sector, I know there’s people there that genuinely want to make a difference but there’s also a lot of people in the NHS that are just there for the money/pension and job security, if you can afford private health care I’d strongly recommend it because it might not be there as it is now in a few years time -
Out early morning today to go to the sheep farm for the feral pigeons, now as my mate Mosh works there I thought I’d ask him if he wanted to come, since he had a heart attack a couple of years ago he’s only been to a few pheasant days and has never been out on a night with me ( we used to be out 3 times a week) so I was surprised when he said he’d like to come, when we got there it was cold and dry and there was between 40 and 50 pigeons around the building, so I went one side and mosh went the other, we managed about a dozen over a couple of hours with the shotguns, shooting a few and having
