Feeding this morning in preparation for Saturday, I took the thermal with me as I wanted to see what was about to put a bit of a plan together with the shoot captain as we are fast approaching the end of the season so we need to make the best of what we have left, I have got 2 drives that still have a lot of birds in for this time of year and they are Gordon’s pen and the piggeries ( tree side ) and another 2 that are not to bad, forestry pen and piggeries ( ruff side ) so if we do theses 4 and add in a couple of small ruff patches we could potentially have a good day, this time in the season

I’m really tempted to get one of these, I had a play with one yesterday and as a day/night scope I don’t think there’s anything better on the market, I think I may even be able to live with replacing the vortex on the .243 with one ?

I do love a sxs, the first shotgun I ever used was a old baikal it was proper ruff but handled lovely and I tried and tried to get the lad to sell me it once I had my ticket but he wouldn’t I don’t mind what people use on a shoot day as long as they hit something and don’t shoot me, I will draw the line with a semi or a pump though

They look at each application individually, possession of a shotgun is as straight forward as it gets, you want to go and shoot clays, you don’t need anywhere to take it, but can use it to shoot on land where you have permission, I was what many would call a bit of a character ( or twat ) when I was younger and I’d kept my nose clean for a few years and applied for and was granted a SGC a few years later got my FAC, just be completely honest when filling the form out, you pays your money you takes your chance ?

It’s just a blame culture, I read the full GMC guidance last night and it seems like they are putting it in the doctors court where as before it was up to firearms to carry out the required check, which we all gave them permission to do, I can see that now it’s in the hands of the GP’s that in between renewals they are in a position to inform firearms if a person has became unsuitable but like SD said it will stop people seeking help if they think they will lose their tickets

It baffles me how they end up with a back log, the know what’s coming up for renewal and as they are turning everyone down at the minute you would think it would give them more time to get on top of the renewals

I’ve got a shotgun for those who shoot the wrong way round as well so you’ll be fine you could always treat yourself or borrow one from the shop, if he’s a good bloke he’ll definitely lend you a second hand one if he thinks there’s a chance you’ll buy it

When you download your forms from your firearms department it will say on them if you need it or not, there’s some that ask for it some don’t ( mine doesn’t ask for one “ yet “ )

Day 5 over with and where do I start, at the beginning I suppose. This is something I’ve used for a long time, long before NV and the fact is, they just work, I’ve used both the foxpro and the icotec and them two are basically the same thing in a different shape box, the new icotec digital caller I use now is really good, the sound quality is far better than the old icotec and foxpro, that’s not to say the older ones don’t do the job very well, the down side to the new one is you need a Sherpa to carry the thing around for you, saying all this the foxes still need to be around to hear it, another thing is, they really come into there own in mating season bec

Well to be fair that first drive was very good, not a massive amount of birds downed but a hell of a lot of birds came out and a hell of a lot of shots ?
