  1. https://www.shootinguk.co.uk/reviews/shotgun/17hmr-calibre-sound-moderators-review This may help but it's a few years old and times move on. I run a Sirocco SM11 on my HMR, the second! The first died and Edgar Bros replaced under warranty. When the second SM11 dies it will get a SAK just like my WMR and 2 x .22lr! Edit Personally I think the Sako mod has the edge on both the above for sound moderation, but the difference is minimal, the minus for the Sako is length. SAK wins overall for me without doubt!
  2. An area not really covered yet is WEIGHT. For most people and rimfires in the field, a heavy barrel is NOT required, some just like them, for other tarts like me, I have no desire to hump around a great lump of unrequired steel, Light barrels are just fine for most applications. Plastic stocks, particularly on rimfires are also very useful as well! I can spend a long time in the field and even though I'm used to carrying around a centrefire, ALL my rifles could be termed light, and they ALL work. Whilst I understand your desire to get out and buy something, try and give the mat
  3. My understanding is you MUST apply for an individual licence first. You can then continue with the Pest Issue if it is urgent, even before you receive a yes or no reply. You can't carry on simply because your FAC says you can deal with XY or Z pests!
  4. My .308 lives almost exclusively on PRVI 150g SP. That works for me on 3 fronts, it delivers circa 1" at 100 yards, its well priced...and it does the job! Mine is a Remington 700 SPS, and frankly is a pussycat to shoot compared to most .308/7,62 I've fired!
  5. Not a big area for me generally, my last sewer job was about 18 months ago, but you are right....whatever the job I have heard tales of previous efforts from Pest Controllers numerous times. 1env coincidentally doing some deals on sever rat equipment at the moment!
  6. I'd say that's pretty near the mark.... As you mentioned about the gun side...for most Pest Controllers that is a very small part of the job. I specialise in these sort of jobs and get work from a lot of other Pest Control companies who I have built up relationships with over the years. They tend to advertise all services but are more than happy to sub out that side of the work to me. I'm not at all convinced I could survive if they didn't, I personally don't get enough shooting work for full time work, so that's good for me. I'm more than happy to pass them the fleas, bed
  7. There isn't one! The .22lr with subs and a mod can be very quiet and I take lots of foxes with them VERY CLOSE in peoples back gardens, but it would definitely NOT be my go to rifle out to 120 for fox. The WMR will cover all your bases except noise, the ammo is all HV as far as I'm aware, I don't think there is subsonic WMR ammo, frankly, if there was, it defeats the object of the longer distances anyway! I get the noise sensitive part, but how many foxes (shots) will you take in a session? One off cracks are commonly not heard/noticed/reacted to. My WMR has a SAK on it,
  8. Indeed, but I only take the pics when something notable happens, it is surprising how little damage there can be sometimes (quite often), even with very destructive ammo, yet other times there is total devastation. I remember being out with a pal a few years back after the deer, we were in an elevated position looking down into a valley adjoining some woods waiting, a rabbit turned up and he took the shot with the .308, just over 100 yards from memory, the .308SP went clean through and then dug a very obvious trench in the valley, but when we picked up the rabbit it took us a few moments
  9. You are moving generally to very different price points talking about Savage and Tikka or Anschutz in the same breath. The Savage will almost certainly do the job, as I have said before the CZ works for me in the field, the likes of Tikka or Anschutz will not give you any more accuracy, repeatability or reliability than a CZ. Some just want one of them and of course that's their choice! Be wary of the Sako Quad, they have never really taken off, they work just fine for some, but unless you have a dedicated scope for the job, then swapping barrels is a pain for many, they are n
  10. Tried that with the .223, right in the middle of the head, unfortunately the rest of the rabbit was behind its head…… If I remember correctly this was around 120 yards, .223 V-Max!
  11. Savage seem to make cheap nasty rifles on one hand and decent target tools on the other. Their rimfires are generally simple, agricultural and lack any perceived quality. Having said that they generally work and few have any complaints about them. If its the right price/type/condition it's probably worth consideration. "Personally" I would not consider one, more than happy with CZ, if you feel the need to invest more get an Anschutz. Put a CZ or Anschutz next to a Savage and the differences will be obvious, again though, the Savage tends to work!
  12. General Licence to kill Magpies for the purpose of conserving wild birds. Just got a job come in for this, I've searched NE site and struggling to find anything. Can someone tell me if there is a new GL for the above purpose or do I still need to apply for an individual licence. Cheers!
  13. They have my eternal gratitude and thanks.
  14. It's marginally OTT for rats, squirrels, rabbit etc! I grant you they are not all like this, but rabbit with ONE.243 V-Max at around 100 yards!
  15. We all know Corbyn and Khan are idiots and a disgrace, it isn't about Trump the MAN, its about his position. They both seem to forget just how important the US is to us. But then of course, for Comrade Corbyn to request a meeting with him after his Banquet boycott......what on earth did he expect? Well done Farage!
  16. ....anyway, how's the Ammo Safe search coming on?
  17. I'm totally with you here, perhaps I've just been around too long but I have never taken any bull from FEO's, and helped several other people who have had daft issues with them! Some are misguided or simply ignorant, but if you approach the issue sensibly then things are usually resolved rather than having to escalate!
  18. I think that was his whole point, YOU DON'T. He was suggesting too many people just roll over and take it in the arse, as the regions commonly make it up as they go along! If they have it wrong or are being daft then question them, don't just roll over!
  19. Those really are sweeping statements. I agree with your basic sentiments but ……………………………. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/117794/security_leaflet.pdf https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/firearms-handbook-2005
  20. Seems a deal, I don't know anything about these, an update after a bit of use would be great!

  22. Some may be expecting looking at that, so the reality is you dealt with more than 4!
