  1. I never see any around my way, it is invites on others people land where I find them, I have shot far less of them than I have deer, people just don't understand!!
  2. There are conditions, but put simply, as long as you are the "occupier", then YES!!!
  3. Add all the above together and you are about there. A letter is not essential but is usually a good start! It's very simple, you must show you have the land, with a problem that the calibre is suitable for!
  4. It's a generalisation born out of size and balance, 28 or 30 should do you fine, few will notice the difference until they get to Olympic standard, hold both and buy what feels best for you!
  5. Well done lads, sounds like you know the craic about the law too. Keep posting and dont get disheartened Seems you are learning fast at least!
  6. Regardless of the forms I wouldn't make any comment like this to your FEO, Gun are Guns Here's the deal, you stand 500 yards in front of my 12g, and stay put whilst I try the same trick with my .308!! See if your answer changes, probably not, you will be in no position to answer after the .308!! ATB!!
  7. Your referees fill in part E of the application and then you give them a form 125 to complete and send. Clicky, I know you're not on NY but the process is the same. http://www.leics.police.uk/files/library/documents/ff101.pdf The application seems different here. No single referee forms. You must be half asleep, that can be your only defence ... Firearms certificates You can get copies of the firearms certificate application forms by contacting Leicestershire Constabulary’s Firearms and Explosives Licensing department. Forms can also be downloaded or printed
  8. Good evening and apologies for the delay. As to your WRM stock, without seeing it I can only guess at the problem. What can happen with a mass produced stock, if it is, during the process of sanding and then applying the finish, the stock should be whiskered, this is a process of moistening or damping the stock, lifting the grain and allowing for further sanding which removes the surface fibres and allows only the hard wood surface to gain a finish. To try and be more clear, some pieces of timber, once sanded, have a soft surface up to a 1/16 inch thick, made up of small fibres and these
  9. I am more than sure you know that I know exactly what is written in law. To achieve 1700 ft-lb muzzle energy, you will have to achieve a given muzzle velocity but here you go again, the semantics of a situation. My comment may well have been flippant whilst replying to "it isn't velocity that kills your quarry...its the impact energy and accuracy". With all your experience, I am sure if or when you start to work a load up for deer, you calculate what muzzle velocity will be required for your chosen bullet to achieve the 1700 ft-lb. In essence, the law may not state the muzzle velocity becau
  10. Same but different, not trying to Hijack this...my Turkish Walnut .22WMR, just about 4 moths old is covered in tiny makes (dents)..it a great piece of wood but does seem particularly soft, I don't want some resin finish, but how do I get rid of the surface marks and what treatment can I put on the stock to toughen it up a bit, WITHOUT making it glossy?? Just don't understand this one, I look after my guns and none of my other wooden stocks suffer like this one has! Cheers!!
  11. Pleased you like it I enjoyed the challenge. Dicehorn has shown me some of the groups that Rugar 204 is now shooting so pleased for you. Got to say one of the guys in the work shop has now got the itch for a 204 and is going to take a look at a Hower or will go the proven route of a Remington and we will do all the normal things to it. Thanks for your kind words SC drop in for a coffee bring the cakes! what is the world coming to!! some dodgy plywood... ..
  12. If you only EVER want to use it for range work off a flat surface consider the fixed (not sure I would even then)! For ALL other applications the TILT! Harris if you can!!
  13. At the end of the day, it matters not because the LAW states what MUZZLE VELOCITY is required. John 1700 ft-lb requires a given muzzel velocity / bullet weight The law states NOTHING about any Muzzle velocity, only energy in England/Wales!
  14. At the end of the day, it matters not because the LAW states what MUZZLE VELOCITY is required. John Is this something I missed?? Enlighten me John, what law in England and Wales says anything about muzzle velocity?? Cheers
  15. Totally agree, and sometimes you would be surprised just how close 2 seemingly very different bullets can be!
  16. Too subtle I guess..it is illegal to lamp Crows and Jays!!!
  17. Guys As I've said before, it is good to see you are keen, and the next generation coming on, but if you intend to develop your shooting you really must gen up on the law!! ATB!!
  18. You cannot generalise that way, on some sites a breaking twig clears a field, and rabbits learn anyway!!
  19. I suspect it will next time once they realise 42 of their family and friends didn't come home!
  20. Apart from the fact it is stamped on the barrel, its not that difficult to look down the barrel and work it out...its easy enough to measure the barrel and usually easy enough to count the twist!
  21. This seems to be getting a bit involved. I have the .22lr, .17HMR and .22WMR and a load of air rifles and centrefires and shotguns as well, so I can cover most problems. IF you feel you have issues with a .223, and or money is tight, get the .17HMR and a Hornet, forget the WMR. Lets get it straight here, I love the WMR and have a use for it but from the situation you outline the HMR and Hornet seem to be your best option. You need to talk to your FEO reference buying and storing the Firearms, if they are to be stored elseware then they will have to appear on your Uncles FAC as wel
  22. Ok, another vote against.... When my lad was looking for his first .22lr he liked these so we went and played with some... ......he bought a CZ!
  23. To do it properly and follow this malarkey is a right pain, and I never do, but I do go a long way towards it, Seems my centrefires can shoot just about anything I want to feed them...can't believe it is anything to do with the care, time and effort I put into them when they were new, guess I must just be lucky!!
