  1. I'm a little confused, do I take it you don't have these rifles yet?? I suspect there is somewhere to zero but I'm in Reading and my lad is in Swindon and neither of us know of any ranges in the area off hand, I suspect there is one somewhere. BUT... if these rifles will be new to you A trip to Bisley may be useful anyway, but are you in the NRA or a club member, you don't just turn up and shoot at Bisley!!
  2. Whats your personal opinion Deker regarding bore cleaning on .22 rimfires , are you for or against regular cleaning , John Personally, on the .22lr which I use virtually exclusively for sub sonic lead (the last time I put copper down it was to try the new fragmenting CCI sub stuff...won't be bothering again) it is the least cleaned barrel I have. Certainly the bolt and action are cleaned regularly (the crud builds up), and the barrel probably gets cleaned about every 200 rounds! It works for me but many will have other ideas!
  3. That is not cheap for a 303, but if it is in as good a condition as you say then sounds ok!! They are good guns, I had one for many years! Any decent RFD should be able to help with the front screw on swivel, but if you have a problem talk to GMK direct........ or possibly here! http://www.brignoliarmi.com/azienda.php
  4. I was out yesterday and talking about this, so far this year I'm 169 rabbits BEHIND where I was this time last year!!!
  5. cz 452 .22 silhouette SAK mod 9 - 42 scope cz 457 .223 synthetic t8 mod, but what scope to add any suggestions welcome?? 12b AYA single barrel shotgun 12b Spanish sbs Shotgun What is that??? Cheers
  6. Cleaning rimfires usually promotes a lot of comment, from never cleaned it in my life to every time I shoot it. Rimfire ammo is filthy as you obviously know and it gets everywhere, the bolt extractors can be a real problem. If you have been exclusively using lead then barrel cleaning should not be too much of a problem, but if you have been using copper coats you will have a bit of work to do. As I have said many times before, Bore Snakes were "invented" to give your shotgun a quick once over in the field to clean the highly corrosive propellant residues out, and then do the job prop
  7. Who knows what you can get, both if you put the right case, neither if you don't..... I would have to suggest the .243 is more versatile as I'm sure you have found if you have been using them!
  8. On the application form to join the club it states that i need 2 people to sponsor me , both of good standing , an employer, solicitor etc. I was just wondering if good standing means that they have never been in trouble with the police and that i can use the 2 referees that i did when i applied for my FAC ( GOOD FRIENDS ) who are not professional people John As these are club rules, you really need to ask the club to clarify who is, and who isn't acceptable to them! I would say that if the police find someone acceptable then the club shouldn't argue too much, but it'
  9. You aren't telling us why it's dangrous though. You are saying that they are different but aren't saying what it is about those differences that make using one in the other dangerous. So what is it that makes 5.56 dangerous in a .223 chamber? Well, as far as pressure specs go CiP say they are identical. That being the case, it can only be something about the physical features of the round/chamber which is causing this danger you speak of. What is it? Of course it's an issue - your gun won't work properly. Personally though, I've seen it happen and it wasn't dangerous from wha
  10. Guys, you obviously can't read and and you are obviously gamblers, I think we have established that you all agree 7.62/.308 and 5.56/.223 are not the same....if you want to take the chance of using ammo of potentially different pressures and different sizes in your guns you are welcome as I have said from the start. There is a wealth of supporting eveidence and as Codweld likes to say, look it up! SAAMI and CIP agree they are different, if you want to keep trying to see if you have a problem you are welcome. I take it you are suggesting all these have it wrong and you know better..
  11. Wikedpedia in all its glory has worded things badly, it means 7.62x51 is interchangeable with .308, it does not mean .308 should be put through a 7.62. If you knew what you were talking about you would know that! Check anywhere you like, here are a few examples! http://www.thegunzone.com/30cal.html http://www.303british.com/id36.html http://guncentral.net/Articles/SAAMIvsNATO.html These all make it clear that .308 through a 7.62 is not clever! Nevertheless, if you want to put .308 through a 7.62 then I for one will not attempt to stop you!
  12. It seems I may have got a bit mixed up here, are you asking about forms to join a rifle club, or FAC application forms??
  13. There are obviously areas of disagreement here, and I suspect this debate could continue on a long while and get nowhere, as I have said all along if you want to put 5.56 through a .223 or .308 down a 7.62 (or vice versa) you are welcome, I choose not to take the chance. Both SAAMI and CIP note the differences in these and most of you accept there are differences. With regard to wording on your FAC and what you can buy, well again, the debate seems to be raging on with differences of opinion, and as I accepted, perhaps a courtroom is the only place to settle it. I see many of your
  14. Thats about the size of it, but as already said if this is your first FAC application you will need to put a strong case for them to give you 3 x .22lr on first grant! I'd say you did well, especially as a .22lr Semi is hardly known as a target tool, but you have not attempted to get 3 x .22lr.. ATB!!
  15. Surely the shear fact that the police are willing to do the above shows with no doubt that the rounds are one in the same That is a leap of assumption, it means that they are happy to let you have either, and as has already been agreed, it may be acceptable to put 7.62 down a .308, not the other way round, so I fail to see why that makes them "one and the same" !, after all the police would not agree to let you buy .22H ammunition if you didn't own a .22H rifle or .22rf ammo if you only owned a .22 WMR. Nothing stops a person buy .22rf caps to shoot in their stamped .22LR rifle. If 5.56mm l
  16. I'm sure you have read it but not relations, RFD, Police etc and they must have known you for a minimum of 2 years. It's always good if you can get a FAC/SGC holder to be a refereee, not much arguement they are acceptable and good standing!!
  17. Thats about the size of it, but as already said if this is your first FAC application you will need to put a strong case for them to give you 3 x .22lr on first grant!
  18. I think that this whole issue could turn into a lawers breakfast in a big hurry if it ever came to court and the defandant decided to put up a big fight. The first big, big, issue you will face is one of interpretation. I mean, your FAC tells you what ammo you can acquire by quantity and calibre. However, "calibre" is not defined in the Act, as far as I'm aware. What does it refer to in a legal sense? Is it ammunition which has bullet of a certain diameter; or designed to be used in a firearm with a certain bore diameter - and if so is that land or groove diameter? Also, what about stuff w
  19. What has this got to do with you buying the wrong ammo which is not listed on your FAC! I'm bored with you..... Go and waste someone else's time..but feel free to answer this and my previous post first
  20. Clutching at straws, ignoring the facts, ignoring the post and throwing in red herrings again hey, so whats new? If you have something then say then say it clear and loud and SHOW the evidence! Which part of you can only legally buy what it says on your FAC do you have a problem understanding? Neither I nor the law gives a toss who writes what, and calls it whatever they want, that has no bearing on what is printed on your FAC! Have a nice day!
  21. Why-oh-why-oh-why do you have to go on the defensive 100% of the time, did the big boys kick eight shades of $h!te out of you in school or what? I have shot .308 in a 7.62mm Mil rifle with no issues at all. YOU are playing the odds! My mate shoots 100's of Mil ammo in his Howa .308 with no issues at all. that shouldn't cause a problem as the .308 should deal with 7.62 Both rounds are exactly the same from what I can see, You read the wrong book just stated in Imperial and metric terminology. I am hazarding a wild guess that because NATO covers most of Europe, and most of Europe uses
  22. It is illegal to buy ammo not listed on your FAC! Just which part of that do you find a problem to understand, wether or not your dealer of region want to ignore the fact it is Illegal is down to them, it doesn't make it legal!! How about .300 or .303, thats nearly the same as well, try that!! .308 and 7.62x51 factory ammo are most certainly NOT the same, so can you get 7.62x39 on this FAC as well seeing as the head is the same and the calibre is the same and it says 7.62 on the ammo which is the same as .308?? After all they are all .308, and as it isn't written on your FAC I'm sure
  23. Guys PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, I'm not saying it didn't happen, but I've been around a bit longer than many of you and perhaps I'm just a bit harder to convince...... It's in the papers now, it must be true, ... even though it happened 6 months ago Nobody ever heard of propoganda, we filled the media with it in the Falklands and just about every conflict you can name, it's all part of warfare!! There remains a funny smell about this, perhaps it is just the way the Army PR department has dealt with it!! It may well be true, but anyone who knows anything about shooting will still
  24. The main point is that people are saying that this is a horrendously dangerous practice but aren't offering any actual evidence as to why. The main thrust seems to be that it's because 5.56 is a far higher pressure round than .223 but when you actually compare specs from the same source and which are derived from the same testing method you see that they are actually the same. So what is it that makes firing 5.56 in a .223 rifle dangerous? Yes, there are slight differnces in the chamber specs but they are really slight. Rifles don't run so close to the point of blowing up that a slight dif
  25. They are different, it doesn't necessarily mean that the difference is going to cause any damage. They have different throats and rifling leeds - big deal. Like I've asked, where are all the blown up guns? Correct, they are different and may cause a problem, if you want to take the chance then you can Not of its self, no. However, we know the history of these things and know damn well that they are basically interchangable. There is very little difference, they both shove a .223/4 bullet down a .223/4 barrel and have pretty much the same powder capacity. Correct, they are different and
