  1. I have 2 Harris Bipods, they both attach to the front stud (sling mount) already fitted to the CZ! Glass is almost too personal to recommend, but I have variable on ALL mine right through from my 12ft lb air rifle to my .308! The HMR is also a VERY gentle calibre (even on a light rifle) no great need to spend a fortune as long as you can see your quarry! PS Where did you hear this suggestion of Bipods splitting CZ Stocks??
  2. I have .22lr and HMR Silhouettes, my lad has a .22lr Style and I know numerous people with the synthetic stock CZ...but I don't know anyone who has split their stock using a Bipod, mine have Bipods almost permanently fitted! I also have the American in WMR which has wood, no difference on the bipod although the stock is obviously stiffer! Heat in the barrel isn't an issue with any rimfire, these are a whole different game to centrefires, you would have to fire an awful lot VERY quickly to get the barrel warm! Not sure of the going rate for these used..take a look at Guntrader.co.uk to
  3. NOOOO! ster wellclear of plastic! they are absolutely rubbish!- I had some for a while and one of them cracked the clear casing within a couple of months of use so I bought a set of aluminium ones- a good compromise IMO cheaper then brass ot stainless but much more durable than plastic... as for my HMR- as I can de-cock it, and I'd be surprised if you couldn't with other CF rifles, there's no need for snap caps.... There you go then, a multitude of views on forums..
  4. I make no pretense the Wildcat is the best mod on the market but it isn't bad IF you have the right Baffle Stack size, many people don't. I would be very confident that if the .22 Stack was fitted on the P8 it would edge the PES in sound reduction. Let me say I am no fan of Andrew Banner (Wildcat) and I think his Whisper is overpriced rubbish which he has done a great marketing job on and persuaded people to part with loads of money for a mod that is worse than a SAK! BUT the P8 isn't bad, either financially or with all it's options, and weight wise it isn't bad either if you get the
  5. Everyone will have a take on this and there are lots of rifles and lots of scopes...and what is right is what you want...this is my take.... Why?? Why do you want a heavy barrel on a light calibre field tool. You can fire this all day without any barrel heat problems and you will find no improvement in accuracy in a heavy barrel, it's just a heavier lump to cart around. The Wildcat Cub is useless on a HMR (I assume for the money you are talking it is the Cub, the Whisper isn't much better but at least its prettier), the SAK is much better than a Cub on these. Scope wise, why
  6. Your club _should_ be able to issue you with a "Shooter certification Card", which is a CC size card with an issue date and club details. On the back of the card it states firearm types that you are certified to use, each type has to be initialed by the clubs chairman and signed. I have my old card in front of me which expired 4-1-10. I didn't go to any course but then the club chairman had known me for a long time and knew what I shot. It might be different this year (?) or your club might run a course, just ask the guys at the club. John When the scheme was introduced ALL existing
  7. Who knows about the land of milk and Honey but Someone obviously doesn't know the law for the rest of England and Wales.... http://www.naturalengland.org.uk/Images/wmla02_tcm6-4231.doc It is a legal requirement to control rabbit!!!
  8. The Parker Hale is a bit of a classic and well known. It's ok but it certainly isn't the best at sound reduction. SAK will better it and be a bit shorter, probably similar money as well. Personally I would suggest you forget any thoughts of spending £100-£150 on a mod, it simply isn't worth it!
  9. Short answer; Yes, in law a mod is a firearm in its own right. Yes, you can be given it in the same way in which you can be given any other firearm. J. Even as a short answer that isn't quite correct... ...plenty of air rifle mods available which are not firearms and do not have to be on FAC. Your Granny or baby can walk into any toy shop and legally buy one of these mods, it isn't a Firearm at this point! However, if you have a firearm on FAC and wish to attach one of these NON FAC moderators to it, then you need a slot on your FAC and as soon as you attach the moderator a
  10. Unfortunately this is a load more B******t brought about by Health & Safety and the fear of being sued for ££££££££££££ The NRA produce a Booklet of 60 pages which tells you all about it (Probationary Training Course), email training@nra.org.uk. Frankly, the majority is common sense and simply writing down what everyone does as a norm anyway. You cannot shoot at Bisley, or any other Military range, without your Shooter Certification Card. The NSRA is probably similar, I don't know. Doesn't seem to apply to sub 12ft lb air rifles!
  11. Perhaps their is a dubious requirement for snap caps at all these days with modern metals for bolts/pins/springs. I have some but seldom bother in the shotguns and never in the rifles. Perhaps more use in older guns! Although, I suspect they will do little harm if you want to use them, except a rather expensive set of stainless ones a had that somehow got caught in the ejectors, I think because they were machined a little too small. Get the plastic if you must, less likelyhood of doing any damage...and cheaper!
  12. May I suggest you talk to those at your club, they must have filled in a few FAC applications before and I struggle to believe none of them will have a moderator or FAC air. On top of which I don't know of a single target club where someone doesn't hunt, seek them out for advice, they are all much closer to your circumstances than anyone here! Did you complete a section 21 whan you joined this club? Is it a recognised Home Office Approved club?
  13. Let's just face it, your mate was bull$hitting. I have played around with plenty of 'hot'loads but as yet have never been able to put more powder in the case than the case would permit Granted I have never reloaded with the powder that he suggested using, but I would certainly (as many others would also) take quick loads predictions very seriously indeed. Final estimated velocities have always been +/- 200 fps when compared to real time range testing, thats jolly well good in my eyes and enough to make me follow Quick loads advice. Just so that you know, Quick load is a computer simulat
  14. Any bunny with any calibre over 200 is worth a shout!!
  15. Is this signature of yours wishful thinking then ...what calibre is the 10-22 and what reason did you give...and how can you have this many questions if you already have a 10-22?? Theoban Rapid 12 .22, Hawke nite eye IR Career 707 .22. Ruger 10/22.
  16. So why are you selling the .22lr, get both!..one is not better than the other, they are different!
  17. And can these be purchased in the UK? John YES... Search back on this site, I had this debate a year or two back and someone gave me details of a dealer with them in stock....around Cambridgeshire I seem to recall...anyway...ask any dealer who stocks Aguilla, they are shit but they are available!
  18. Hi I have had both the ASE and am now using the whisper on my Anshultz HMR. The whisper IN MY OPINION is definely quieter. The sound at the rifle is changed into more of a "thud" rather than a " crack. Tony Looks like you could save a lot of money and get better reduction then, the SAK and SiroccoSM11 are both much better and cheaper than the Whisper according to Shooting Times!! Sound Reduction. Whisper 23.3dB SAK 26.9dB LEI 27.5dB SM11 28.6dB
  19. I would love to know what or which brand of .22 long rifle ammunition produces 205ftlb John Now you know.... Aguilla .22lr Super Extra Maximum HP or Solid, BOTH 204ft lb. I think that qualifies as being around 30-205ft lb.
  20. Going FAC on air may seem like a good option at times but for many the reality is different, they are of course far more expensive than a .22lr and far less versatile, and eat air... ........................remember a .22lr can shoot caps, short, longs, lr, shotshells..and probably a few things I have forgotten. It can also do it consistantly shot after shot and deliver power from around 30-205ftlb!
  21. The fox will find them...especially at this time of year when he has a family to feed!!
  22. It's easy...the party that repeals fox hunting, the hand gun ban, automatic firearms, sorts out the economy and lowers taxes, increases pensions, improves the NHS..................................!! Now then... where is that on the ballot paper?????
  23. There is a far bigger choice in O/U than SBS, but both are perfectly suitable, get what you want, fits you best and can afford...end of!
  24. Whilst time factors can become part of the equation there are more important things, like need, rounds fired, experience, land, etc, etc...build a strong case with lots of reasons and tell your FEO you need it Open...and keep your fingers crossed!
