  1. ....I think you may be getting carried away with the versatility and power of this little thing ...400 yards!
  2. It seems I stand corrected. I knew about the thicker walls as I believe pressures are around 33,000 psi on the .17 WSM. I believe thats around 8,000 psi more than HMR, hence the centrefire style breach features. I should probably correct myself as well when I said it would probably obsolete ALL calibres below .223 if it matches it's stated performance as in actual fact .22LR will always survive because of the fact that its near silent with subs and so the gun of choice for close range near housing at night and it doesn't turn rabbits inside out, although I would suggest that anyone sho

  4. :hmm: ........... ............so on that logic is a 17 Hornet Etc., Etc., SAFER than a HMR and therefore safer than .22lr? This whole situation does seem strange but you still need to be careful in any comments. Just why is a 17g V-Max projectile at 245ft lb SAFER than a .22lr 40g Segmenting HP projectile at 98ft lb? (CCI 0074) or a 40g Segmenting HP at 45ft lb (CCI 0970). And what about the FMJ and Hollow point HMR that can bounce for England given a chance? Ricochets are a possibility with any calibre and any round, actually hitting your quarry/target will reduce any possi
  5. Why? The new .17 WSM outperforms the .22 Hornet in many aspects!!! It has the same energy at 200 yards as .17hmr has at the muzzle!!! It's reported to be quiet, low recoil and 1/2 MOA on accuracy. The energy at 250 yds is only 13 ft lbs less than the .22 Hornet Centrefire!!! It has around 1/2 the bullet drop of the .22 Hornet, the .22 WMR or .17 HMR eg at 250yds reported drop is just 7.8 inches compared to 13.9 inches on .22 Hornet and around 1/2 the wind deflection. At least according to this video on Youtube: Finally, apart from the cheap ammo, at least
  6. Seems more than a little odd to me, and with .22lr available over 200ft lb I'm confused!
  7. If they got their information from GMK then don't hold your breath, I'll have 10p on it with you it will be nearer July 2014 than July this year!
  8. There are very few animals (quarry) in this country that have ANY legal ammo requirements, and remember bullet technology has come a long way in the last 10-20 years. It is perfectly legal to shoot solid ammo at any quarry in this country (except deer) and it was not that many years ago that the staple diet for .22lr and Pest control was a solid lead projectile. The fact is that if you deliver ANY ammo to the right place on any quarry it will fall down, A fox/any animal is not going very far if you deliver a solid/HP to its head or heart lung, there is a strong argument to suggest the
  9. Cheers for the reply Dekers, It's good to get an opinion from someone who runs both regularly... If guns and distances (sensible) were identical would you say the wmr has the same degree of accuracy as the hmr? Cheers Jamie Nope, HMR always has the edge in accuracy, but it is a very small edge. 17g V Max HMR Verses 30g V Max WMR apparently deliver very similar energy by the time you get out to 100 yards, but experience has shown me the WMR delivers it more effectively. It has better stopping power and energy transfer to the quarry. I'm not entirely sure why, but it obviously p
  10. Ok, I think many of you know I'm a sceptical old bugger and whatever some of you want to think, something smells strange here, a LOT has apparently happened during the short life of this thread, and that above just doesn't add up to me!
  11. You won't go wrong with either, but Sako for me, I simply don't like the Blazer, others have an orgasm over them, such is life! But my Tikkas and Remington do all I want anyway!

  13. NewSave £29.96! Tracer Mini Pro 12v Kit - Limited Edition Including £50 of Accessories RRP £119.95 Now £89.99In stock From Uttings! This is an excellent package! Many people use the torches today and some are very capable, just be careful though about distance/beam/battery life, and the prices of the good ones are still not cheap!
  14. Like for like the lr will not shoot better at 100 yards than a HMR. The obvious conclusion is "something" isn't right about the HMR. Amongst other things I run 2 x .22lr (bolt and semi), HMR and WMR and I use them all, but I would not trade a HMR for a WMR. My HMR is a small vermin tool with occasional fox and Canada, I just don't see the WMR as a small vermin tool personally. Just the same is delivers excellent trajectory and terminal performance with the 30g V Max which is what I use in it most of the time now. Main use for the WMR is Canada clearance and fox, with the 30g
  15. There may be others, I don't know, I didn't look them up, I have some!
  16. They will NOT fragment very well, they are Jacketed HP, they will peel back and expand mushroom fashion, or go clean through depending where you hit the fox, possibly both. Just exactly where do you think you were hitting these foxes, because whatever you may think, if you put one of these in the right place the fox will fall down! "rezerod 1.5" high at 100yds as per usual" WHY, if you are shooting foxes -120, why are you not zeroed at 100 yards, and just where is the zero if you are 1.5" high at 100 yards??
  17. NO replies, he traded it, and then 3 replies!
  18. I can't see a picture but there are many reasons why deer (much wildlife) can end up with scars. It could have been attacked by a fox or even bird of prey when it was young, barbed wire, broken branches, Hawthorn, etc or even had an argument with farm machinery, many other possibilities as well!
  19. We go back to the Vermin/Fox debate, the fact is they have refused to condition his rimfires for fox, but do condition his centrefires for fox. Not worth persuing this debate, it has been done many a time!
  20. The .243 will not do the same as a 22-250, it will do it better! A 55-58g V-Max .243 is in my opinion the best LONG range fox calibre/ammo available, and if you rate the 22-250 you will have an orgasm using the .243! Add the additional versatility of the .243 and it leaves the 22-250 for dead.....IF of course he actually needs to step up from the .222!
  21. We are wondering into a whole different bag of dogs doings which has been debated many a time........... I have a shooting pal in another Police Region that will not consider rimfire for fox, yet EVERY rimfire and centrefire I own is legal for fox, so I go out shooting with him and he cannot go near the fox, yet I can stand next to him with my .22lr and shoot them perfectly legally, DAFT in the extreme!
  22. Can you reference this please, perhaps I missed it but I see no mention of this on the Zeiss website for the Victory! Zeiss is stating that on their Victory HT this shift is so small over entire magnification range (1.5-6x, 2.5-10x, 3-12x).
  23. This may be a factor in some cheaper scopes, but if the engineering is right and optics properly ground it simply shouldn't happen!
