Anyone Had Good Or Bad Experiences With These Rifles?
Deker replied to hutchey's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Ok, good to know. I was just looking for some peoples experiences given what they use them for. I've not come across lighter variants but happy to have some mentioned so i can look at those online. Use will be foxes and hopefully some deer later on calibre 243 Within most manufacturers model ranges there will be heavier and lighter barrels and stocks, commonly, but not always, Varmint will indicate a heavy barrel, some of the laminate stocks are quite heavy as well. For Example T3 Varmint and Lite, Rem700 SPS Varmint and Stainless, Howa1500 Varmint and Sporter, etc., in all cases -

I'm not sure what you are actually expecting as a response, there is nothing wrong with any in the list. From time to time any rifle will have a problem and you will always find someone who says XYZ is the best rifle in the world and someone who says it is the worst! There is not enough Specific detail on each model to give a view, but it seems you may be looking at heavier models, no doubt if that is the case you have your reasons, I don't need/like/want any heavy rifle these days. Get what you need to do your chosen task! -
Guns. Are They Tools Or Love Objects?
Deker replied to walshie's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
We all have a different agenda here, my guns are work tools that get used socially from time to time. They are tools to me, I get what I need to do my work, simple as. Just the same I look after them, that doesn't mean they are love objects, I keep my chisels sharp, my bait boxes clean, my traps in good working order, etc., that doesn't turn them into objects of love, but well functioning tools! -
I have a reasonable bit of Lamping kit and Nightvision, I don't actually see one taking the place of the other, BOTH systems have their uses...regardless of the state of your eyes!!

Where did that come from? Cheers! rules about shot fallout mate. Fact. Ask your firearms dep't . Rules...... FACT, what fact? I take it you mean rules like a .22lr not being a fox gun! I don't make the rules , i'm only telling you what they are. The fact is , the 300 yard rule exists. Don't question me , ask the firearms dept like I said earlier. As for a .22lr , I wouldn't know anything about that. Why do you ask ? Chap, I'm not looking for an argument, I hear all sorts of baloney on forums and it is best to prove or disprove asap or rumour gets

Learn something new everyday, I wasn't aware that for the purpose of that Act, it only included highways for use by vehicles. I'll post it as a pinned thread when I have two minutes http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/270438-built-up-area/ Keep up SS, #4! Edit, been quoted a few times before that as well...... I can see it back in 2010 at least!

You are thinking too much, reading too much and looking for problems. The CZ range will do anything and more that you will ever want in the field. Chill out, if the trigger isn't clever there is plenty you can do about it, BUT loads of people don't, because it is fine for them!

Are you talking Wiltshire?

If it ain't bust don't fix it!

Interesting, I have the Stainless SPS in .308 and the stock flexes if someone sneezes in the next county. But it can deliver 150g PRVI SP to 1", and not much will argue with that! I have not bedded a rifle before, never needed to, so is this possible with such a flexible stock, does the bedding add enough rigidity to the stock to make it work/be worthwhile. May be a stupid question, I'm no expert on bedding! (well, not rifles anyway! )

You need to look at this as a much bigger picture.... why do fly rods exist if YOU only ever go Sea fishing, why do Indian takeaways flourish when YOU can't stand them and only do Chinese, etc.,. Lots of people have a specific need/use for a FAC air, after all, if you don't you will not be granted one! Also remember this is not all about recreational shooting, to some people a decent selection of rifles is simply a tool box!

Because in the vast majority of cases peoples longest is NOT repeatable on a daily basis, that is the whole nature of it being the LONGEST, therefore it was a one off or lucky or unethical to start with "for most". The question begs an unreasonable answer from any except those that suggest they never take shots outside their comfort zone, and as I have said, by the nature of the question, LONGEST is outside the comfort zone of most! The question wasn't, what is your cut off point, at what distance do you stop shooting with any given calibre, it was, What is your longest!

No it does not have .22 hornet performance, 20 grain bullet at 300 fps compared a 35 grain bullet at 3100fps you do the maths You're right that 300fps 20g round doesn't really shape up against 3100fps 35g! Where is the edit button when you need it? -

I'm not really following this, I think it is pretty obvious to anyone with half a brain that two similar types of bullet, but one carrying approx. twice the energy of the other is likely to do more damage, do we need a video to show this? and...BOTH of those were about as UNscientific as you can get, even different containers on the first. For those that may find this a surprise try a .22lr and a .243 next to it, which do you think may do the most damage? -
So what, what does it matter what you, me, or Uncle Tom Cobly can do, shoot within your capabilities. Throw a coin up in the air enough times and one day it will land on its edge! Virtually everyones LONGEST shots will be planned and worked out with experience, BUT, will also involve an element of luck.

If thats in reference to what I said, tbh that's not what I was doing, just observing that head shots are usually more effective and to my mind it makes you a better shot if you have to be more precise. I'd personally buy a HMR over a .22 any day so don't take my post as anti-hmr. If you want the real truth, I'm holding out to see what the .17 wsm finally brings to the table before deciding to go for an FAC as it promises much greater power, more silence, less recoil, little wind drift and more accuracy. ....and there is that wonderful cop out Usually Everyone does what th

Bore Snake = Rubbish? Or Is It Me?
Deker replied to Beefbeefbeef's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Makes you wonder why they went bust, or was it because of the stale cigarette smoke smell in the whole place, or the fact they simply didn't know what they were on about and tried to offload whatever they had! ...but, on the plus side, I had a few cups of tea out of them -
Zero distance is down to requirements/situation, tools/equipment and the shooter. As others have said, a 31ft lb air rifle will seldom be the tool to use on a regular basis at 70 yards. My FAC Air runs at about 26ft lb and my pellet of Choice is AA field 5.51, works a treat for me, but certainly at 30ft lb +++ the Bisley Magnum is seriously worth considering. After that it is .22lr with 45ft lb Quiets, or subs around 100ft lb.
-
This is a commonly asked question, and of course everyone knows the BEST way to clean their rifle. Just the same, perhaps a pinned version covering the basics may be an idea! There must have been some half decent responses historically that a pinned version could be based on.
-
This really is designed for longer distances, no reason not to use it on a .2lr with subs though, for which there is a strong argument for this type of scope, perhaps you should suggest to them they do a Rimfire or .22lr version!
