  1. I really don't have the energy to go round in circles. Lets just agree to disagree on this one. I believe HMR is ricochet safer, you believe .22 is perfectly safe and on the occasional times that anything exits is the shooters fault. Case closed. That isn't what I said! Please do NOT misquote me, I have never made any such blanket statement that .22 is perfectly safe and on the occasional times that anything exits is the shooters fault.
  2. There are a LOT of people here who haven't shot anything like that quantity in their whole life. 10,000 a year equates to approx. 27 a DAY, EVERY day of the year, that is a LOT of rabbits, there will be very few that achieve those numbers. I don't shoot 27 rabbits every day of the whole year, that is just a silly comment. if you had any experience of shooting rabbits on a large scale as I and other pest controllers do then you would appreciate that 90% are shot at night using nv and when I say night it isn't just a couple of hours, it is normally dusk till dawn. some nights obviously
  3. Alsone, I have had ricochets from .22lr and I'd guess in probably 90% + of the situations I would put it down to user error, ie me, I do not blame the tools, I blame the person who chose the wrong tools!
  4. Of course its not uncommon, I shoot many hundred every year, where I struggle is with the comment I can't think of a single occasion where a .22 LR slug stayed in the cavity even with long range shots. I never said that, not my quote. You appear to have questioned my response though, my apologies if that was not aimed at me. It wasn't and if you haven't already gathered from my now numerous posts, I don't make personal attacks. Well maybe if someone gets overly personal but that's very rare I'm a very laid back individual. A round that fragments is much safer than a ro

  6. Anything else you would like to change, you didn't say ANY of the above until this post, what you said was....... "I can't think of a single occasion where a .22 LR slug stayed in the cavity even with long range shots" "You do an excellent job of coming accross as a book smart, condecending prick in most of your posts Deker" Some make it easy, but you will find I can usually spell and VERY rarely have to resort to abusive language.
  7. So, back to the topic. IF more Winchester are passing clean through the question has to be WHY. On the basis they are still (on the whole) sub sonic it is not speed. Has the bullet design changed, is the HP smaller, is the bullet composition/materials harder, etc? Any offers, I don't actually have any of the new packing/new manufacturing plant ammo yet, so I don't know!

My mate is very experienced he has an open ticket on all of his rifles right up to and including his 30-06. Having an Open Ticket doesn't mean you know what you are doing, for instance, how many different types of .22lr ammo does he use? I've seen both
  10. What animal are you talking about, Winchester and Magtech have a BIG HP and commonly deliver a lot of energy and stay in. Rabbits mate - I know they have a large HP which may dump into them harder but I stand by my reconing that the rounds pass through more often than not although I can't say I've spent time fishing around the cavaties looking for lead. That is seriously NOT what you said, I wouldn't have bothered if that was your original comment I can't think of a single occasion where a .22 LR slug stayed in the cavity even with long range shots. Piss off Mr semi-pro

  12. Get what you want, the whole Bolt/Semi debate is hardly a life changer in the accuracy dept when we are talking field use on the bunny. I too fell somewhat for the Anschutz BOLT or 10/22 Semi question. If you are talking Semi the Anschutz still wins hands down, why do you think everyone who buys a 10-22 throws most of it away and buys third party replacements for virtually everything, some are so tricked up there isn't a 10-22 left. NOBODY does, or needs to do that, with an Anschutz. Bottom line is from my experience of them both, I'd say the CZ Semi is still a better bet, older

And if you have seen MANY a bullet pass clean through and ricochet then I can but suggest your pal has a lot to learn about shot placement and ammo choice! Sorry chap, your comments about preferring HMR on that basis are naive! It is ridiculously immature to suggest a 245 ft lb V-Max is better/safer than a 100ft lb .22lr sub with the right ammo on that basis PERIOD. Do you have a FAC y

  15. I used Magtech 40g HP Subs for years, tried them when they were dirt cheap and got on really well with them. I have stopped using them now simply because the price has got silly, they went from being about the cheapest you can buy to now being near the top of the price table. Winchester now or RWS as second.
  16. Rats tend to feel ill with the likes of Difenacoum, Bromadiolone, Brodificoum, Coumatetrayl etc etc and become lethargic, they then do what most of us do when we feel ill, they go home and go to bed. In many cases that means they go home to a hole in the ground where they die, no body and no smell. Obviously in the Hay Barn they may be living snug and warm in a bale/stack which may at times be a problem. DIFENACOUM Toxicity Oral doses in mg/kg: LD50 rats 1.8 mice 0.8 rabbits 2 hens 100 dogs 50 cats 100 pigs -100 Kindly note the difference required to kill a rat
  17. To be honest I struggle to see the justification for single barrel shotguns generally. They have a niche use but it is very small in my opinion, and the lack of weight seems to also make them potentially uncomfortable to shoot. I have one, got it at the Game Fair must be 4, maybe 5 years ago now, cost the princely sum of £25 so I thought why not, I have found out why not since, gave it to my lad for safe keeping a couple of years back now as it was just clogging up the cabinet! I'm not trying to put a case for FAC shotguns but I feel semis are the route for a lot of field/vermin requi
  18. ....but some apparently like the smell, just the same, once smelled, always remembered!
  19. I understand the new packaging coincides with a move to a new production plant as well, so who knows, but I would have thought the recipe should be the same!
  20. I'm not following the bait business, there are plenty of species specific tamper proof bait boxes available. Bait boxes are good if used correctly and provide an ongoing 24/7 opportunity of rat removal. Traps must be totally enclosed if used, so harm/danger to non target species should be as close to zero as possible, but traps are labour intensive. VERY few rat infestations will be cleared by shooting or traps alone. Commonly a combined approach is required, dogs perhaps, maybe even glueboards and gas sometimes.
  21. Not many flap about without a head, and they don't flap with a decent body shot with a V-max rimfire or CF. I find a shotgun tends to make then take flight pretty quick, rifle seems to work best for me when they are on the ground, such is life, whatever works for you! I have V-max for my HMR and have used them for Goose cull and some will drop without movement (It does open their heads like a tomato with a hammer), but I will say again many will flap. Ever chopped a chickens head off? Also I've never done a body shot with a HMR on geese. I cull Canada's every year (for the last 3 y

  23. Just to add a bit there.... Artificial illumination, mirrors, flare guns, lasers, etc., not just lights, and not all birds, Feral Pigeons excluded! Any device for illuminating a target or any sighting device for shooting at night. Any form of artificial lighting or any mirror or other dazzling device.
  24. This is a new species to me, are these anything like Canada Geese? First off refer to the GL and make sure you have complied. A 12ft lb PCP is NOT the tool to deal with them. If you must, get very close and only consider brain shots, you will not penetrate the feathers at all with this and chest shots will only injure them. Be prepared for plenty of Claret as they flap about too. I favour HMR for Head shots and the table, and for general clearance the WMR with a 30g V-Max tends to make them fall down almost wherever you shoot them. I have been there and I have done it, an
