in your area ? i live in yorkshire ....and have fox on .17 ..........since renewing my licence it has come back with the following ......under all calibers it says...........any lawful quarry suitable for that caliber..........seems the police have put the onus on the shooter what is suitable.......the .17 is not illegal on fox......but wether its suitable or not is your choice under the circumstances when shooting I can assure you South Yorkshire do not permit the use of .22rf or .17HMR for fox.I would also say getting a centrefire .243 on a first application without conditions (mentor claus

What a load of dogs doings! I have said it before several times, you seem very keen but also very pliable, stop reading so much and stop believing everything you read! ATB!

What right has ANY force got to insist you have rimfire first, and what calibre is a bridge between anything, calibres stand and fall on their own merits, and the merits of the 17WSM are yet to be established, so is the price in the UK of guns and ammo, and a WSM IS a Rimfire! You can read as much as you want, life is different when you are walking around by yourself with your own gun. Reloading will bring tailored, better performance, to any gun over factory, and for anyone who shoots a decent amount will save them money, even with the original capital investment in equipment. If you

And both cubs by the look of things, all the foxes I've had this year have been in excellent condition as well, not sure why!

I guess it's probably me but what on earth was the point of this thread?

A .22lr sub is in the order of 100ft lb, a HMR is in the order of 245ft lb, how do you define safety? Perhaps it's just me but I am sick to death of this HMR ammo is safer than .22lr malarkey. We have been using .22lr for around 125years, it is the most popular civil calibre in the world, show me the graveyard full of shooters bodies from this dangerous ammo! How about we step that up, where do we stop, Hornet .223, .243, .308. etc...V-Max type ammo available for them all, and a lot of other calibres too, so is a .223, etc., safer than a HMR then? ATB!

I'm confused, if the person buying them met all the requirements where is the problem? Are you in NI, is the law that bit different there?

That's the way it is. Seems daft, you can have a SGC but not buy carts!

This question goes round and round and the fact is size shouldn't really matter, it should be about topography/location. But the simple view from many Police is commonly that size does matter. I have had an Open FAC since day one and regularly shoot in peoples pocket handkerchief size back gardens safely. High seat could be considered if they give you a hard time.

For Lamping Rabbits, .22Lr Vs .17Hmr
Deker replied to DeerhoundLurcherMan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Hi. I have had a .22lr for 35 years but I have just got a wmr added to my ticket, not got a rifle yet but looking for another CZ. What range do you take rabbits at and what do you zero at, I'm thinking of using 30 Grain Hornady V max. I've never had a problem with the .22lr but range is a problem now that the legs are getting a bit older. DD I very rarely take out my WMR for rabbits, I find my HMR takes over on them when the .22lr runs out of legs. My WMR is used mainly for Canada geese and fox. These days I tend to use Hornady 30g V-Max for virtually everything in it, accur -

Damage To Swift Moderator By Hmr Bullet - Update
Deker replied to kenj's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Did I miss something, which part of that comes as a surprise to you. The same can potentially happen with any calibre! Yep you missed something, it didn't suprise me in the slightest (seen the consequences twice before) others however in the original thread may have argued that a lodged bullet was nigh on impossible. Seems like some people have a lot to learn then. -

It happens to them all, not just Federal. Split cases are also common in all makes of HMR and plenty of calibres have hang fires and dud rounds! The Majority of these are Hornady........... -

Do what you like as I have already said. There ISN'T a Book, haven't you noticed that yet. "there is NO law and NO precedent, there is conjecture and debate and hot air from the Proof House as to whether any individual RFD will/should buy it or not" Jackson Rifles have taken expensive Legal advice and been campaigning for years to make the point that re proof is NOT required. -

reproofing: if you want to sell it, it does. if you want to keep it, it does not need it. comment for the original thread maker, I would highly recommend 18.5 inchs. when the ammo is consistent (which is very rare) my 18.5 inch barrel will shoot a few out at 0.25 inch c2c at 120 yards. but its more like an inch usually. I firmly believe this is due to the rounds not the barrel on my 18.5 inch browning 52. forget the 14 inch dude its a little to short. NO it doesn't, there is NO law and NO precedent, there is conjecture and debate and hot air from the Proof House as to whether an -

That's somewhat like saying Ferrari, Bentley or Ford KA, there is no discernible difference in the time it takes me to get to work in the rush hour! Try the Seven Bridge to London run at 03.00 in the morning and see the difference, how many target shooters do you know that use a 12" .22lr barrel? I'm sorry. I didn't know the O.P was a target shooter. To avoid confusion, yes, 16" will be fine. You over generalised, always dangerous, that was the point I was making, doesn't matter if he was a target short or not! There is a VERY discernible difference between 12-24" b -

I have NEVER liked those Hogue stocks on the Howas although others positively have an orgasm over them, that's the way of life. I was at Bisley on Sunday on 200 and 100 Yards Short Siberia, very gusty, I was probably there or there abouts with my .223 and was happy in the circumstances, nothing wrong with that at 300 yards. Well done, I would be happy with those groups, but my serious completion days are over. The fact is with a half decent barrel and trigger and the right load development that is not exceptional, achieve that in the field and you get Brownie points! ATB!
