How Many Shots Before .17Hmr Goes Off Zero
Deker replied to Beefbeefbeef's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
What happens after 30 shots?? When you say go off zero, how much, what happens then, do you clean it/leave it/what?? If it is/was new cleaning is important (it's always important in my view but I know a few people who will give you an argument on that). HMR do not go off after 30 rounds, it has to be heat, wind, you are getting tired, etc, but you will have to fire pretty rapidly for heat to have any much effect! -
How Many Shots Before .17Hmr Goes Off Zero

We all have an opinion, mine is I wouldn't go anywhere near a rifle with a bore snake, especially a tiny .17bore! -

Air Rifle Experience Counted Towards Fac
Deker replied to lordecon's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
WHY? It doesn't seem that long ago to all us old timers that the Hornet was regularly used to knock down deer, and poachers still commonly use a moderated .22lr to do the same job? -
Air Rifle Experience Counted Towards Fac
Deker replied to lordecon's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I really don't know but I too would suggest that as an average that is pretty close. PERSONALLY most of mine are under 100 yards and a whole load about 7-25 yards as I knock down a fair few in peoples gardens. Just the same I get out on a very wide variety of sites and take the odd opportunist fox at distance, although even on the biggest sites it is usually possible to bait or track and get pretty close. I have certainly taken a handful of fox over 200-250 yards, but I'm struggling to remember any over 300 yards, if I have it is no more than 1 or 2. I know some people do take them at th -
Air Rifle Experience Counted Towards Fac
Deker replied to lordecon's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
That's the route I'd suggest! A 22-250 is no more deer legal in any part of the UK than a .223, and if you want bigger deer you will have to move up to a .243 at least anyway. If you can't stop any deer/fox at 200 yards with a .223 a 22-250 isn't going to help you, and despite what you will read, the reality is VERY few things are shot past 200yards! And if 200yards +++ is required regularly then a 243 will be the choice not a 22-250 anyway! Get what best suits you! -

Which the .243 or .22-250? The .243! -
Decent Affordable Semi Auto 22
Deker replied to deerhunter25's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Ha Ha, yeah, they can be expensive and bring out the little boy grin factor in even alleged professionals, best I did was 10 shots in 1.7 seconds with mine, and they all hit the black at 100 yards at Bisley. Prone off the bipod, point, hang on, and just pull as quick as possible.... -
Decent Affordable Semi Auto 22
Deker replied to deerhunter25's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I have Both, without doubt the Bolt gets more use, but the semi does have its uses. Mine are work tools, but if I was to have just one it would be a bolt, others may well suggest their choice would be a semi, we all have different expectations, needs, desires, uses, etc! -
Decent Affordable Semi Auto 22

Magtech 7022 brand new around £150. Trigger is far from good but mine is accurate and reliable, extra magazine about £15 I believe. Ready to go out of the box, open sights and screw cut. (no studs fitted, I had already put those on before I took the picture) ...but if you want scope, sling etc you should still come in on budget! Only available as .22lr, this is the same gun as the Mossberg 702 which costs about £100 more! Think about the CZ semis as well, not pretty guns, but good. -
do you mean like a varmit granade bullet? I have only ever fired a handful of Varmint Grenades. But I guess the description/effect can be "similar occasionally".

I think it's back to basics as has been mentioned, try the scope on another rifle, and try another scope in this rifle, you will soon find if the problem lies with scope or mounts!

I have seen the strange effect of surface splash with some V-Max but tend to put this down to one off incidents rather than daily repeatable events, but in principle a .223 40g V-max will be absolutely fine. To an extent I have to agree with #4...if 17g 2550ft sec HMR V-Max can put them down, is it really a trick question?

http://www.nodakoutdoors.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=103821 Ok, hardly scientific, but this would lead me to think there is still availability issues in the US, that being the case you can forget any early arrival here in the UK.

Is this now called a 17WMR, what happened the 17WSM?

in your area ? i live in yorkshire ....and have fox on .17 ..........since renewing my licence it has come back with the following ......under all calibers it says...........any lawful quarry suitable for that caliber..........seems the police have put the onus on the shooter what is suitable.......the .17 is not illegal on fox......but wether its suitable or not is your choice under the circumstances when shooting I can assure you South Yorkshire do not permit the use of .22rf or .17HMR for fox.I would also say getting a centrefire .243 on a first application without conditions (mentor claus

What a load of dogs doings! I have said it before several times, you seem very keen but also very pliable, stop reading so much and stop believing everything you read! ATB!

What right has ANY force got to insist you have rimfire first, and what calibre is a bridge between anything, calibres stand and fall on their own merits, and the merits of the 17WSM are yet to be established, so is the price in the UK of guns and ammo, and a WSM IS a Rimfire! You can read as much as you want, life is different when you are walking around by yourself with your own gun. Reloading will bring tailored, better performance, to any gun over factory, and for anyone who shoots a decent amount will save them money, even with the original capital investment in equipment. If you

And both cubs by the look of things, all the foxes I've had this year have been in excellent condition as well, not sure why!

I guess it's probably me but what on earth was the point of this thread?

A .22lr sub is in the order of 100ft lb, a HMR is in the order of 245ft lb, how do you define safety? Perhaps it's just me but I am sick to death of this HMR ammo is safer than .22lr malarkey. We have been using .22lr for around 125years, it is the most popular civil calibre in the world, show me the graveyard full of shooters bodies from this dangerous ammo! How about we step that up, where do we stop, Hornet .223, .243, .308. etc...V-Max type ammo available for them all, and a lot of other calibres too, so is a .223, etc., safer than a HMR then? ATB!

I'm confused, if the person buying them met all the requirements where is the problem? Are you in NI, is the law that bit different there?

That's the way it is. Seems daft, you can have a SGC but not buy carts!
