  1. A dead fox shows whatever gun he used works, and .....what is powerful enough for foxing and what limits are there to meet for foxing?
  2. FAC air rifle for Fox in your back garden. Rocking horse s*** comes to mind. Long term start applying for a shotgun, a first grant FAC for fox control in your back garden is not going to happen, short term get a Pest Controller in! Cage traps can/will likely take forever and cost a fortune for 6 (if they work at all), and snares don't normally go down well with family/children/neighbours.
  3. Perhaps its my cleaning regime then, I don't seem to have any issues with the accuracy of my 1517 with a 'dirty' barrel I wonder if the groups would be even tighter after a proper clean.. can you recommend a good cleaning kit or point me in the direction of a YouTube video to show how it is done properly? Elliott, this is a tricky one because we are talking degrees of accuracy, and I hear many suggest they never clean and the accuracy is fine. I have never let ANY barrel get dirty enough to know just how far off it can go, and as I have stressed above I am not preaching or telling
  4. Which part of the copper coat on a HMR bullet (which does it's best to weld itself to the inside of your barrel) will make it better by leading the barrel? Term of speech my friend, keep your hair on In my experience my HMR doesn't like cleaning, many people find the same. I will GUARANTEE you any HMR with a good true barrel will shoot better clean than dirty. Was your barrel filthy and lined with copper residue when you got the gun new? Barrel cleaning has been discussed many times on this and other forums. Cleaning any rifle, particularly the little HMR

  6. What happens after 30 shots?? When you say go off zero, how much, what happens then, do you clean it/leave it/what?? If it is/was new cleaning is important (it's always important in my view but I know a few people who will give you an argument on that). HMR do not go off after 30 rounds, it has to be heat, wind, you are getting tired, etc, but you will have to fire pretty rapidly for heat to have any much effect! Yesterday, after a couple of scope adjustments, I had a nice little pattern of 4 shots on a 50p at 100 yards. By then I had fired about 25 to 30 shots. I switche
  7. No you don't, if your ticket says any land deemed suitable by the chief constable of that area, it means so long as you have permission, and the land is passed you can shoot on it, hope this helps. I see where you are both coming from, but who tells you the land is cleared, the bloke down the pub, the farmer, your friends mate...simple fact is in the majority of cases you will want to check with the Police to make sure it has been cleared!

  10. We all have an opinion, mine is I wouldn't go anywhere near a rifle with a bore snake, especially a tiny .17bore!
  11. Does your FAC not state words to the effect.. ........ on land passed as suitable by the Chief Officer of Police..................
  12. WHY? It doesn't seem that long ago to all us old timers that the Hornet was regularly used to knock down deer, and poachers still commonly use a moderated .22lr to do the same job?
  13. I really don't know but I too would suggest that as an average that is pretty close. PERSONALLY most of mine are under 100 yards and a whole load about 7-25 yards as I knock down a fair few in peoples gardens. Just the same I get out on a very wide variety of sites and take the odd opportunist fox at distance, although even on the biggest sites it is usually possible to bait or track and get pretty close. I have certainly taken a handful of fox over 200-250 yards, but I'm struggling to remember any over 300 yards, if I have it is no more than 1 or 2. I know some people do take them at th
  14. That's the route I'd suggest! A 22-250 is no more deer legal in any part of the UK than a .223, and if you want bigger deer you will have to move up to a .243 at least anyway. If you can't stop any deer/fox at 200 yards with a .223 a 22-250 isn't going to help you, and despite what you will read, the reality is VERY few things are shot past 200yards! And if 200yards +++ is required regularly then a 243 will be the choice not a 22-250 anyway! Get what best suits you!
  15. Ha Ha, yeah, they can be expensive and bring out the little boy grin factor in even alleged professionals, best I did was 10 shots in 1.7 seconds with mine, and they all hit the black at 100 yards at Bisley. Prone off the bipod, point, hang on, and just pull as quick as possible....
  16. I have Both, without doubt the Bolt gets more use, but the semi does have its uses. Mine are work tools, but if I was to have just one it would be a bolt, others may well suggest their choice would be a semi, we all have different expectations, needs, desires, uses, etc!
  17. Magtech 7022 brand new around £150. Trigger is far from good but mine is accurate and reliable, extra magazine about £15 I believe. Ready to go out of the box, open sights and screw cut. (no studs fitted, I had already put those on before I took the picture) ...but if you want scope, sling etc you should still come in on budget! Only available as .22lr, this is the same gun as the Mossberg 702 which costs about £100 more! Think about the CZ semis as well, not pretty guns, but good.
  18. do you mean like a varmit granade bullet? I have only ever fired a handful of Varmint Grenades. But I guess the description/effect can be "similar occasionally".
  19. I think it's back to basics as has been mentioned, try the scope on another rifle, and try another scope in this rifle, you will soon find if the problem lies with scope or mounts!
  20. I have seen the strange effect of surface splash with some V-Max but tend to put this down to one off incidents rather than daily repeatable events, but in principle a .223 40g V-max will be absolutely fine. To an extent I have to agree with #4...if 17g 2550ft sec HMR V-Max can put them down, is it really a trick question?
  21. http://www.nodakoutdoors.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=103821 Ok, hardly scientific, but this would lead me to think there is still availability issues in the US, that being the case you can forget any early arrival here in the UK.
  22. Is this now called a 17WMR, what happened the 17WSM?
