  1. Over the years I've had a few encounters with the General public and plod. No one has been confrontational but they could have developed. the way I look at it is that nowadays with mobiles anyone can ring up plod and make allegations that shots have been fired in their direction and they feel threatened or endangered. I don't know but Plod would probably feel obliged to come out and cause a nuisance of themselves. One time when I was on my own night shooting I did have a person who came out into the fields with a Small torch looking for me. Seeing as I out on this land very frequently it w
  2. Four spaniel were stolen down here in Kent from a shooting man. One of them has been recovered from a ( HORSE FAIR ) in NORFOLK. Now I wonder who was responsible.? The trouble is that rogues are floating around all the time. Only today I've been harassed by two. One wanted to do gardening.!.? He reckoned that he'd been cutting next doors hedge, Naah the hedge hasn't been cut at all. ( talking a load of bolocks) especially as he had only just pulled up in his van and the second one wanted to know if I wanted to sell my car. They're rogues and they stand out like sore thumbs just like pl
  3. Again another nice write up of your hunting exploits. That Mannlicher looks so much like my Luxus in 243. The virus outbreak has hit us all and this year most of the shoots are only offering duck shooting. We hope for better times but I fear that the virus will be here for a very long time and that general life will take a bit of a diversion until an effective vaccine has been developed. Still we do what we can and make the most of our time. I look forward to your posts.
  4. Yeah, yeah ,yeah . 5 trail camera's May well disagree with me But if Charlie is en route on a daily basis why is there any need to bait up at all.? It's like all this whistling and shouting.. it's all counterproductive. Charlie has been used to mooching across the field minding his own busines eating worms beatles. It was all peaceful and quiet and now someone is spreading cat food about, whistling and shouting. You might as well import a steel band, a troupe of dancing girls a bloke playing a trumpet and another waving a flag. Charlie knows that whatever is happening, it ain't n
  5. CAT FOOD !!! Charlie won't eat that synthetic cold greasy shit. If the fly boys aren't out there shoot it. Nip over the fence and retrieve it. And don't keep shouting and whistling. Your only alerting it to your presence. Either shoot it or leave it until you can. Ps. Bloody horses.
  6. Sods law that charlie either doesn't show tomorrow or does something really random. Son in laws brother and his partner have a riding livery and school ect. They were being plagued by charlies eating the horse nuts, making beds up in the hay stores, shitting in the hay, digging the horse shit out of the skip container, shitting round the yard, generally right in a Doorway. Generally making a bloody nuisance of themselves. Son in law and I went up there on numerous occasions to control them. It was the most difficult shooting that I have ever encountered. Firstly it was in winter and we
  7. scumbags were beating scumbags 1- 0 by halftime. But in the second half their scumbags equalised. It's a shame that the camera didn't get right in there.

    harry again

??????... this thread is gold. One would have to pay for entertainment such as this. Talk about four monkeys up three and a half sticks... do I give a flying who stuffed Di.? I'd be more interested in knowing if Wills has impounded Harry's guns and who took Harry's peg in the line. Does The beautiful Kate stand behind Wills with a spaniel, a bag of spare cartridges, a flask of tea, a loving smile and a "well shot Will" at the end of a drive.? Poor Harry. Still I suppose that he's got a nut Cutlet or some other vegan slurry to look forward for dinner tonight.
  9. The whole reloading thing can lead to almost a hobby in its own right. You get a load sorted and then the supplies of components dries up. Like the recent changes in powder supplies. One tip that I would offer it to record meticulously vary scrap or data from each trial. At one time I was trial reloading for 4 different calibers with probably results from 6 of each. It can get very confusing. I was reloading for shotgun at the same time also. Some people make their own lead shot and this again is a hobby in its own right.
  10. They are good components. I think that after a scale the most important things are a chronograph and a reloading manual like Speer or the Hodgden data manual. When I started to reload (223) I used a 52 grn hp match Hornady. I made super accurate bullets. I could consistantly knock over 410 cases freehand at 100 paces but on several occasions bullets went clean through targets without killing them. We even accounted for one Charlie that was shot with a shotgun whilst chasing ducks around a pond. It had semi healed holes on either side of it's body where a bullet had gone right through it wit
  11. I tend to think that the use of an old dung fork is more popular there. They think that it adds something to the flavour. Seriously, I used to work with a bloke who said that when he was growing up about 1940s that his grain lived with the stewpot over a fire in the central room. The smoke drifted up and out a hole in the roof. The who,e place was smoke black !!! The fire burnt all the time and they just chucked in whatever came along and the mid was rowed round with a chunk of wood like a paddle. Occasionally they would get the rots where they had something that had been lingering in
  12. Why is that then. ? They are brilliant. Ah don't tell me, ...... you prefer the stewpot hung from a tripod over a campfire in the middle of the living room and the Chuck random stuff in daily and row the contents round with an old branch.
  13. Are you a beginner at reloading rifle ammunition.? If so how or why have you decided to use a dipping method. There is a minor flaw in the volume dipped idea in as much as you will be restricted to a specific powder. To get the best out of reloading for a particular gun it can take many different combinations of powder / bullet. There are many on here who will help you just keep asking questions.
  14. A few weeks ago we had an infestation of Rolands. All of the neighbours had visitations from Roland as they were moving between gardens. I watched them on the cctv replay and they only came once a night for only a short period. They were so touchy and flighty it was incredible. I used a cage trap and a std spring type trap. In the end I used fuse wire to hold bacon rind onto the trip spike so that they had to tug at the bait. I filed up the trip parts to make them smooth and light trip. I sited the traps next to the shed wall and built a wall around the traps using bricks so that Roland was
  15. New DAZ washes whiter than white, dead is deader than dead.!! They went through all this with advanced weapon system competition in which case less ammunition and plastic guns were developed. Yes it worked very well but was not really any better than 5.56. Ideas that spent fortunes and never went anywhere. Go on YouTube and watch forgotten weapons. History is littered with hundreds of such ideas and types. EM 2 and the 280 British being an excellent example.
  16. I wasn't there but some woman who lives next to a pub near to Ashford (Kent) put on social media that it had been quiet but a group of pickets had turned up and got noisy then the women and kids turned up and it had kicked off into a brawl. Nothing unexpected there. That's just how they are. Lloyds the lot of them. Not so good if your General regular customers don't come in for a scrap in the car park.
  17. Lots of different angles here. Do I agree.? Yes and no. It isn't required BUT anyone can say anything. Without it you could end up in a situation where you could be accused of shooting across others boundaries, shooting their cat, illegal shooting or any random reason that a tree hugger might come out with. If the owner of the land who said it was ok to be out there, gets embroiled in neighbour disputes they potentiality could say anything leaving you high and dry. If they won't write you out permission up front, then are they going to stand by you if poop is being thrown around.
  18. Yes, this is very true. Most of my lamping is on foot. If you're fit enough to plod round the patch and you've got the time you get a good idea of who and what is about. But you are limited as to how much ground you can cover. We've been out for some hours cruising round with a vehicle to only find a couple which we probably wouldn't have seen in a month of Sunday's.
  19. There's no two ways about it, a hilux is the way to go. Been there done it ect ect. You cover more ground, up there looking around, move position quickly. When Charlie disappears you can zoom Orf down the rod and come in and head the blighter from a different angle. You can go of to another bit of ground have a set there, come back and see if Charlie has come back out. Yep Hilux is King. And you can even leave KWIS a present for his blow flies by high speed airmail as you pass by. ???????
  20. Prone .? You guys have some very patient Charlies. They must be curious as to what you are doing setting all that stuff up. Nahh. Prone = Too low, can't see through the grass or any distance and laying in a load of sloppy sheep shit or soaking wet ground. I know a bloke who fixed a couple of hooks on the back of his jacket and hangs a rubber car floor mat . He sits on this and used a long Harris. it's quite effective but The downside is that somtimes the sheep shit slides off the rubber mat into his wellies when he stands up. He now unhooks the mat when he gets up and wipes it off befor
  21. Failure to do his duty. Draw the revolver and shoot him out of hand. FANNY would have.

  23. He may well shout and holler at people but when he was taken out deer stalking he was presented with a relatively easy shot which he declined to take on. He had some lame excuse about he wasn't sure of the shot, he had something in his eye or a plane was going over, the stalkers facial expression was one of ... You f***ing weakling, you. Someone commented that if Fanny Cradock was behind the trigger that she would definitely have dropped the hammer and been out there with a knife ready to butcher. He didn't walk the walk when it mattered. The Mrs uses a sort of see through plastic up
  24. Another thing is that cross breeds like cockapoos ect used to be classed as mongrels are now seen as fashion items. Now it's a good thing that there is biodiversity but crossing random animals doesn't necessarily make a good gun dog. even if that type becomes fashionable. . EG crossing an elk hound with a poodle don't make a spaniel that will work cover.
