  1. A friend had a Doberman and it jumped the fence, went racing down the field, impacted him in the back of his legs and he felt himself riding the dog down the field like Lester piggot.! Just like that. ???
  2. Don't be so silly.!!.... 4 8 hours you've been posting your Willie through their letterbox again haven't you.! 48 hours....pahh. Same in Kent. He must have been issued a letter of an eight week extension under section 28B of the firearms act 1968 if the cert had not been decided (or issued) by the expiry date. I don't know what happens if the eight weeks extention runs out. Perhaps they further extend or issue a section 7 ,, or what but tell you mate to get about them because if it does run out, he could possibly be in illegal position even though it aint his fault.
  3. Thank you for re advising me of this recurring mistake. Brain block issue on this one. I'll have to walk round chanting 250 3000 savage. Like lines. ???. The stupid thing is that I do know this. Once one is one, two twos are four seven sevens are fourty nine.
  4. *********** HAD A BIG RETHINK ************** No none of it. I WOULDN'T WANT BASIC INVOLVED IN ANY OF IT. IT WOULD UNDERMINE GUNSHOPS AND OTHER COMPANIES AND GIVE US LESS CHOICE. And it would give those wasters a bigger lever to say that they represented us which they certainly don't. I've a good mind to see if I can't go back and delete that stupid idea that I had before some bright spark tells them that it might be a good idea. the insurance companies should advertise about the comprehensive shooting insurance cover that they provide for £30 and strangle basic off. Die you b*****
  5. I just look on that as a load of propoganda guff. How do all these anti groups such as kwis and the gen licence issue run rings around basic . Our lot just look like a bunch of incompetent hooray Henry's. Jobs issued for the boys. The amount of people that I know who have contacted them for help and advice and been told not to rock the boat and basically to bugger off indicates to me that nationwide the numbers must be pretty high. Most people join for the insurance because they don't know any bettter. How do they help the membership on a day to day basis. I'm not interested in motoring rev
  6. It is only in recent times that high power zoom scopes have been touted around. When I was a kid air rifles just had iron sights. Then came the little 4x15 telescopic sights and if you had a 4 x 20 that was the delux model. The cross hairs were a simple cross of very fine spiders web type. Then suddenly big scopes were the thing.! X To X mag by 56. Now every post online is about some dustbin sized optic on a 22lr rimfire. Bear in mind that the greatest snipper of all time the Finn Simo Hayha with around 542 confirmed kills didnt use a scope at all and the greatest Russian woman snipper Ly
  7. Back about 1980 I bought a 2.75 x 40 fixed power Tasco scope. It wasn't a lot of money but the clarity, light transmission and just the view ability of the scope is briliant. It doesn't have the black ring effect at all. The image is full all of the time from any angle or distance. You don't even notice the scope body. Although it is only 2.75 x mag I am quite contident on headshots on rabbits out to about eighty paces Free hand with my old BSA 22lr. If I knew how good the optics on this scope were then I would have bought about 4 of them to put on different rifles. If I can see the targe
  8. ?????? we build em fine here. six-foot-four and full and full of muscle.! I met a strange lady, she made me nervous She took me in and gave me breakfast And she said Do you come from a land down under? Where women glow and men plunder? Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder? You better run, you better take cover six-foot-four and full and full of muscle. lyrics from ... men at work...I come from a land down under
  9. It's got to be an eye to lens thing or height from comb to the scope centre line. A lot of scopes are a bit position critical. If you ain't in the right place all you can see is either nothing or a black ring. A seven year old ain't the same size as you.
  10. The first 22cf that I saw was a 222 in about 1993. Back when No one used anything bigger than a 22lr. That was considered a powerful rifle and now plod says that it ain't man enough.!! People didn't shoot Fox because they were the preserve of the local hunt for the gentry. The hunt was a waste of time and it was driven drives to standing. after I saw that 222 and had a go with it I soon got my 223. Wow what a cannon. No one had silencers either. Another thing plod resisted. I could write a book about the shooting characters and my experiences on the drives. take two rifles.
  11. If you do that then you are dancing to their tune. And even if you do this, they probably won't issue anyway. I would go see your farmer and explain that they wont give you one for fox and only for dèer. Ask him to write a letter explaining that he has deer damage to his crops / agriculture and that he had requested you as a firearms hiolder to CONTROL the probĺem. Then contact the feo or better still contact the department direct if you can. That bypasses a specific Firearms enquiry officer (Feo). BUT isn't this what basic should be doing. What are you paying nearly 100 quid out for.?
  12. When you apply for a calibre you have to have need and reason. If you give up and don't give a reason to have a deer calibre rifle, then you ain't got the need. In nearly all cases it ain't essential. You can go to supermarket for meat. You have to have a nèed to control as vermin or agricultural damage. ( in their eyes ). Quote...there is a few people that I know that are willing to take me along with there rifle for the experience, If you say that they will say come back next year when you have done this and can prove your experience. Get these blokes to put in writing that
  13. Well, 24 hours and more has passed without comment from anyone. What does this indicate.? .... no one has any opinion. ? No one gives a flying f**k.? .... people are taking their time to collect their thoughts and opinions.? Hmm. My opinion is that the whole firearms thing is a complete shambles from top to bottom. Shooters apply for stuff that they will never use. Plod haven't got a clue about their job or which end is the pointy bit and make it up as they go along and the orgs are just a useless self serving thing. Still you did get a reply..... And you do get four (is it.?) Mags for
  14. It's pragmatic but overall should we be appeasing these random demands and hoops? When we've agreed to every whim what then.? You can't have a ticket if you don't wear tweeds.? You don't have weetabix for breakfast.? Or you have to wear blue Doc Martin's .? Stiĺl when the orgs are promoting courses they run for cash what else have we to look forward to.
  15. And from this experiment we find that. .????
  16. This is about right. They just make it up as they go along and now hide behind covid. You cant ring them up, you can't go there and my feo dosn't even work on Friday. And the rest of the time you have to leave a voice message and hope. Pretty piss poor service
  17. I have no Faith in the ability of basic to do anything other that to tell you to wait a year and not rock the boat. ! Oh, and to try to get you to buy some raffle tickets. ?? Edit.. I forgot You will likely be told that they recommend that you enrol on a dsc course .... run by , ... you guessed it basic or one of their cronies. ........ "This is a deer",,, " that's a deer"???? "Yes, that's a f***ing deer".'*
  18. I really enjoyed reading this write up. It's just like being there. You can almost feel the odd drop of rain on the wind and the sound of the leaves on the wind. AND feel the football's of mud clogged on the wellies. I remember one time where I got off of a drilling onto a track and it felt really weird like being weightless after I'd scraped the mud off on the sheep netting.
  19. The more you play a game the better you get at it. But the human body is infinitely variable. It's all a different to the days of chief surgeon Sir Lancelot Spratt style. Eye's of a hawk, heart of a lion, hands of a lady. If in doubt, cut it out.!!
  20. I must have spent several hours on the phone today waiting to get through to the doctors surgery to book a blood test and speak to someone at the council about a community charge for Mother in laws empty house. The numpties recon that there's student living there.??? the place is empty and in the process of being sold. perhaps we missed a trick and should have filled the place up with illegal immigrants paid for by the government. Everything is being blamed on covid. or Brexit
  21. AND all the movies who prance about and make believe they are someone else on stage get made into Sir Something. " Tell me father, What did you do at work today?" "well son I pranced bout a bit, and I pointed and posed a bit"!!! vermin>>. Cut the licence fee. And that fish face Lloyd webber was squeaking that the Gov should give him a handout to keep the palladium going. !! they should send a bulldozer round and flatten the place. That would stop the losses. You watch, it'll be Sir Philip Schofield soon. Lord bum boy of the masses. I have the highest admiration for all of thos
  22. That harks back to the kit that Father and Grandfather used to use. Wood blocks with holes drilled in them, A spoke from a push bike, measure made from a bit of tube blanked off. A homemade wad punch made from a bit of tube ground sharp for hacking wads out of a bit of thick felt and card. They did buy the powder and shot. The paper cases were shot to disintegration and the kids followed the gentry round picking up the discarded cases under the guise of collecting cartridges. It would have been embarrassing going cap in hand to ask and would probably been told to bugger off. Times were hard
  23. This subject has been covered numerous times on here. I never agree with any of the General choices that people come up with. The usual choice is a big multi power zoom. If it is a 22lr then the best choice is a fixed power scope. Unless you are spending serious money then the majority of zoom scopes don't hold a good zero when zoomed. You get better glass for the money with a fixed power. 6X is more than enough magnification for ranges covered by the 22lr. Big mag is hard to hold on target, has small fields of view AND it ain't as if your shooting fleas off of the back of a dog ten miles
  24. I did buy a second 28 at an auction. It wasn't the gun that I was interested in, it was all the stuff in the lot, which comprised of two pairs of electronic ear defenders, several pairs of shooting glasses, about five hundred new factory Eleys in 28 and other bits and pieces. The gun was an O/U Invest arm non ejector.!! It is as basic as a fence post with barrels so thick that I'm sure that they could be used as an African hunting rifle.!! I would think that they would still be usable if several million cartridges had been put through them. For all its fence post characteristics it shoots q
