There was a hunter that used first cross pit/bloodhounds and reckoned they were really good. I know a guy with bloodhound/mastiff first crosses that work well and are good guards as well. I think they add bloodhound for the nose obviously in thick country. I don't know about pures but I can't see why they wouldn't lug when dogs like labs will. The pit/bloodhounds are a nice style of dog, the ones I saw looked like brindle hounds with long ears, slightly shorter and lean muscled. I'm more a terrier, lurcher person myself but the mrs used to catch pigs for a living and she didn't like pit in her

They use practically any likely dog for pigs over here in Oz and bloodhounds and their crosses mostly are quite popular now. Pit/bloodhounds are supposed to be good in thick scrub.

You have some scary moors over there Blacky.
-
Or a dash of werewolf.
-
I think it was an accidental mating. Why would show people with winning dogs crossbreed and sell for a fraction of a ped litter.
-
If there was such a dog I'd like to own it.
-
I'd have no doubts about a GSP being able to handle deer if they could catch them. A mate had a pure and used him on feral goats and the dog would often break their necks.
-
My neighbors had a GSP cross cattle dog, an ex pig dog. It was very good with all us kids growing up but would attack anyone who went near us. The owners just emptied their leftovers to feed Jack, cooked chicken bones, corn cobs, and other horrors. He lived until 19, lol. He looked like a short, blue ticked pointer.

I think over here the GSP is mostly a pet/show dog where the GWP is bred mostly to work.
-
The GWP's over here are used on pigs a lot and seem to have a lot more drive and gameness than the GSP's. Anything you cross with a GSP comes out looking like one, be it greyhound, bulldog or whatever. A lot of Bullarabs look like heavy set GSP's. The wirehairs are good guards as well as hunters.

Article about wolfhunting.
Aussie Whip replied to KimE's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
Maybe if one dies it could be replaced by a dominant young wolf from another unrelated pack? I don't know that much about wolf behavior but they wouldn't just keep inbreeding constantly. As a pack got killed off outside wolves would join them I'm sure. -
That would be a normal Saturday night at the pub for you Pablo ??

Yeah, I just think it's a bullshit excuse, he doesn't want you there for whatever reason. It would piss me off but not much you can do. If he gets over run with game and rings, say you will do the job for a discount of 200 a day or tell him to fck off and catch them himself. ?

It is a good idea mate. I don't understand why some people who keep poultry don't use them themselves, it's part of what makes chickens the most useful livestock with eggs, manure for your veg patch, clearing garden beds of weeds and pests and as pets for the kids. Plus breeding and showing the birds as a hobby.

I really like that dog mate, good size and strong looking.?

I hate seeing dumped or lost dogs, sad stuff. I used to see plenty in the Blue Mountains near Sydney, people would just come up and dump them all the time. Dogs don't belong living wild without a master.
-
I agree with everything terryd says about your dog, he's a nice animal and is what he is. Maybe get a faster type and work them together.
-
Can't do much about his genetics but plenty of free running, keep him fit as possible and don't overfeed. I think pulling on a lead bulks up shoulder muscles too much. I had a pit/bullmastiff that could catch roos in a short sprint, he was a super fit dog and lived until 18. I kick myself for not putting him over a greyhound.

If people want them for breeding they will soon flood the market, I just gave three nice baby jills to a young bloke starting out. I can't get a vet around me to snip a hob and there are too many ferrets for sale over here. I decided to just keep the hob kits to work for this reason. People are still trying to sell kits atm for up to $200, good luck.

I think the gov doesn't care about the old people, the good people that built our countries. They have served their purpose and when too old to work just get forgotten and kicked in the guts with more taxes when they make a few dollars to make ends meet. If these junkies are the future, we don't have one. Back when I was young the young people might smoke a bit of weed and play music, all peaceful. Over here now ice is ruining country towns with violence and other crime, it's quite dangerous now at night in a lot of these areas.

It's a top bird house. I can relate to you with shitty neighbors, I have to pass past their house at the driveway and cop abuse from a senile old cnt, never did anything to him and if I gave him a flogging I'd be the worst in the world, so just ignore the prick, lol. I don't understand why people get dogs and fail to look after them, sad world these days mate. The good news is my Parson Russells hate him and annoy him a lot with their barking. It seems society everywhere is going down hill.

Good effort from the old boy. I used to think of retiring them when old but I now think they should just keep going to keep them going.
-
That's nicer than my home Bangers ?.
-
Mine still wouldn't have caught it, lol.

I've heard of pig hunters shooting multiple young staghounds because they showed no interest at 6 months. Imo these people have no idea about running dogs, comparing them to bull or cattle dog crosses that start as early as a few months. Even some terriers can take their time and turn out great dogs with patience.
