  1. Deerhound/greyhound, just bred for hunting over here for 200 odd years but there are different types with other stuff added. The dog I had was as tall as a big deerhound but bigger boned and ginger colored. He wasn't even looking at game until over two but once started he didn't look back.
  2. True, I had an Oz staghound who really didn't find his legs until nearly 3, he was huge. I only keep small whippet types and terriers now for rabbits.
  3. I think around 3 they are at peak fitness but they still have a lot to learn and compensate for their aging by experience.
  4. I don't know what causes it but it's a fungal infection, he used to get it in Summer. If you keep up the treatment it should be almost unnoticeable in a week and that's from a very bad state that looks raw meat and like the dog should be pts. He had a very dense, short, white coat. I think we used the Malaseb twice a day until it the hotspot subsided. The hotspots would appear overnight.
  5. Looks like a hot spot, my American bulldog used to get these a lot. I used to shave the hair on the edge of the hot spot to stop it spreading and use Malaseb wash. Leave on ten mins and wash off. The spots looked real bad but would heal quickly using the wash. ?
  6. Wow, scary stuff. I'm 60 and sort of the same story, except for your horror pond story but yeah I'd probably do the same for my dogs. Glad you came through ok mate, true dog man ?.
  7. I couldn't have pissed them off more than they annoyed me and anyway who gives a fck about them, lol. That's another reason I hunt with my dogs only. I don't mind taking some out on occasion who don 't usually hunt, family etc. It's the ones who think they know better that shit me.
  8. Other people hunting with me annoy me, their dogs annoy me too. The main reason I hunt is to get away from people in general.
  9. A lot of young country people into pig hunting here, I don't know how long that will be going with the stuff they flaunt on facebook. It's sort of trendy and there are a lot of dickheads hunting pigs which will end it for everyone. I don't know what they teach kids now but most are fckn useless at any manual task, i think humanity has nearly run it's race.
  10. Terriers and luchers are the best team. Add ferrets and they are the ultimate team.
  11. Imagine being a keen young hunter just starting out ?. At least the older blokes had their day with their dogs. Very sad for the young ones now. It's going to happen in Oz I think as well.
  12. What a load of shite you wrote here mate .Where are all these wounded animals .It happens but everyone I know goes out there way to rectify mistakes with follow up dogs and humane despatch I'm sure the majority of shooters try to do the right thing when they wound their target but what about the weekend warriors and yahoos, we have plenty of these over here who just dont care. If you tell me you have never lost a shot animal you are either lying or haven't done much shooting because it happens. When the dogs are on something it either gets away and lives or it's caught mostly, finish
  13. Micro ferrets are probably just a result of continual inbreeding, that can't be good for the animals and I'd avoid these types.
  14. It's not ethical imo, also who's to know if you are keeping the genuine cull and cull half a dozen outstanding dogs? It's not easy finding good homes for pups and some people care about that. I know a lot of people do this but there are a lot of cnts in the world. ?
  15. It is harsh, he only wants one pup so tap 11 on the head if she has 12 ? What a cnt.
  16. Bloke on the ferreting post, Hob Wanted has some.
  17. Don't know what it's about but if it teaches kids how to catch a feed it's a good book.
  18. The sad part is that even though it got sick it would be much healthier than most designer $4000 fluffy dogs, lol. Friends had a dog that looked exactly like a fox but stockier and said it was half fox but that's impossible from what I know. It was a weird animal and walked into my yard when I had two dog killing pits and they just looked at it and then ignored it.
  19. I don't think they understand that a lot of shot animals escape to die a lingering death compared to next to none when hunting with dogs. A lot of prey animals get chased by predators on a daily basis so I don't think this stresses them out too much.
  20. That's true, hunting people are quiet, you get nothing for being nice and abiding except ignored.
  21. They'll end up with no native wildlife when they have to resort to poisoning rabbits.
  22. I like to muck around, play fight with pups, the terriers mostly, I think they bond better with me. That's outside, when they come in, games over and they should behave quietly. I think most of my terriers have shredded my hands as pups, lol.
  23. I only hunt daytime and had a pure grey that was good on anything but rabbits. He didn't get too knocked around but his feet let him down in rough country pretty quick.
