A question for home lurchers...
Aussie Whip replied to Joeboe2000's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I have an American Indian mate who's family have had these semi wild chihuahuas for many generations, they are bigger than the show type at around 5kg and they hunt in big packs. You need to study dog history as do a couple of others on here. -

And they are the best dogs for warning you of poisonous snakes without engaging them and dying. Another reason they are useful over here ?. -

Jill coming back into season after litter.
Aussie Whip replied to Aussie Whip's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
I've been trying to find a vet that will do a vasectomy on one of my males, they don't even understand the reason and know nothing about ferrets. -

It shows how little you know about canids apart from the one trick sand slugs. Chihuahuas were semi wild dogs that hunted game of all sorts including pigs. They still retain the toughness and survive diseases that would kill most dogs. Not all dogs are an extension of our dicks and I can see why you need very, long dogs ? -

I've found the dogs kept inside were more loyal, guard the house and family (even the whippet)and are generally more of an all round and responsive animal rather than being purely a hunting dog. Sounds weird but that doesn't include my chihuahuas, they are much healthier outside except in freezing weather but they are very tough little animals, more like a miniature cattle dog in their health. -

No inside, mine are hard b*****ds. -
I've had terriers since a kid but not a terrier man as in digging terriers. I do think you need patience to get the best out of them and just to own and live with them.

Jill coming back into season after litter.
Aussie Whip replied to Aussie Whip's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
I've heard people getting away not breeding jills and others losing them. I do keep the cages and beds clean so I'll give it a go. I have only kept hobs for the last 10 years up until now and bred the jills years ago just in case. -
My jill seems to be looking like she is coming into season again. I weaned the litter at 6 weeks as she is pretty small and her first breeding. The weather has been weird and I've been hearing of two litters per jill. Should I breed her again or will she come off by herself. It seems a bit much for her to have a second litter.

Lets See Them Whippets, Coarsing, Racing, Working
Aussie Whip replied to brenner's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
A good rabbit dog can make a hare dog look silly on rabbits. The whippet would be over the line on 50m with the saluki at about 25m. I've seen them raced. You don't use pure salukis I thought. There are plenty of pure whips over here on rabbits, more whippets than lurchers used here. It's because they are the best pure bred for the job. They have big lurchers for big fast game. If you think rabbits are'nt fast in a short sprint on hard bare ground you are kidding yourself. -

Salukis ? But they can do that on and off for 5 hours in steep country. It's why they are the ultimate pure bred rabbit dog and the fastest dog over 50m. ? They are also loyal and have recall, not to mention clean in the house and unbeatable temperaments. Also cheaper to feed than most running dogs. And they call you Magoo ?. -
I think you're talking about tail docking, I used to dock my terrier pups years ago also pig dogs were usually docked. I think it's a law brought out by fckwit animal rights who have no knowledge of dogs and their welfare. It's not worth it now here if you have to see a vet, I think they have to report docking.
-
Yeah mate, not too keen on the pup's curled tail lol but she's crazy for rats and never seen her shake one just crunches them. She started hunting them at 3 months off her own bat around the chicken pens.
-
Bitch around five months
-
Why? he looks like the ideal dog for the rabbits.

I don't take offence when an abbo slings abuse at me, it's like when a gorilla at the zoo throws shit at you, you don't hate the gorilla, you laugh and think poor creature. They get away with it because they are more primitive, I believe that's the best way to think.

Snakes are a minimal danger unless the dog grabs one. Where I am in Oz I only hunt in the cooler months because I have terriers as well as a whippet and the terriers target snakes. Not worth losing a good dog and it's too hot in Summer here anyway, your more likely to lose dogs to overheating than anything else.

It gets lonely in the outback, but not that lonely, lol.
-
You can see why they bred Boerboels. At least they have lions and hyenas to dispose of the evidence, I'd imagine the badgers over your way having a hard time cleaning up all the mess, lol.
-
I think a lot of hatred started with the new can't say anything bullshit. In Oz we've always had a mixed population for as long as I can remember. We used to call Italians, Greeks and Lebs wogs, Asians slopeheads and abo's boongs from the noise they make when they hit your bullbar. It let off steam and everyone seemed to accept the names, it was not blood thirsty hatred, just jest. If you said that now knives would come out. Not really on subject but thought I'd add it.
-
Poor boy, hope he heals well for you. It must have hurt him as I've had whippets try and shrug off injuries when hunting and had to pull them up.

I'd be happy to move back your way if you get rid of the immigrants. If everyone stayed in their own land we wouldn't have this problem. Either that or we get rid of our unwanted immigrants and all you people come over here, lol.
