  1. Went out yesterday and every doe I caught was pregnant, the week before that I caught half grown rabbit maybe 6 weeks old so must’ve been born around mid November.....I think we aren’t fair away from 12 months of the year breeding if they aren’t already.
  2. Here is some of my lot! Good grafters all of them.
  3. I’ve only really caught normal brown ones with the odd black one and once a white one with black eyes though not albino. Landowner said they’ve seen them there occasionally for years.
  4. From reading the thread (nice interesting one with no dick measuring! Nice change!) It sounds like the perfect cross would be lab x grey then back over a whippet or grey so you only had 1/4 lab in the mix and a bit more running dog for speed but plenty of the labs undoubtedly good qualities. As mentioned the issue then becomes litter wastage on the first X but in today’s dog market would almost certainly find plenty of pet homes if no working homes were available. Definitely a cross I would own if the time was right, always been amazed that more lab lurchers aren’t out there.
  5. Well done mate, cheeky vicar in there as well!
  6. Spot on that. Sums the whole thread up nicely.
  7. Nice dogs mate ??. Good pair for flushing and then catching
  8. Exactly. Even if it’s a £100 for 5 years that’s £20 a year! I know each of my working jills are worth a lot than £20 a year to me. You’ll probably get a lot more than 5 years out of a vas hob anyway, I’ve an 8 year old hob that still works and mated successfully in the summer still in good shape.
  9. It was clear that was the reason. She became anemic and took her to the vet and he confirmed it was being left in season that had caused it gave her the jill jab and some treatment for the anemia but was to late to save her, happened so quickly to just a day from being ok to being very ill and another day after she was dead. As the one and others have said if you leave them there condition really can go downhill over the course of a summer also. Now I use a vas hob it’s amazing they look superb all summer no hair loss or weight loss just stay in nice healthy condition all year round. I j
  10. I’ve had a jill die from not being mated, was in her first season and since then I’ve never chanced it. Before then I had many times left them all summer no issue but have never forgiven myself for that jill, felt I let her down. She had a cracking first winter on the rabbits as well real cracker of a ferret.
  11. Wow ?. What a load of utter bullshit that is! Didn’t realise the bull x has only just started being breed though...learn something new everyday ?. Another example of the left leaning media trying to push there own agenda along with that disgrace of an organisation that is the RSPCA. Saw another article saying labour will make the hunting ban even stronger and much more strictly enforced if they ever win another general election....games f****d might not even be able to run a rabbit before long ??
  12. Very nice offer for someone, fair play.
  13. Shame you were redoing warrens some else had done. Were they poaching or do you have to share your perm? Well done on getting out, not all about numbers.
  14. Surprised you didn’t stay out all night and all day...anything to get out the house at the moment by the sound of it! ?. Shame you didn’t catch anything could have left out for the sister in law ?.
  15. Good news that mate, I went back some where this year that I stopped going because there just wasn’t enough about so left them alone but this year there were really good numbers which properly cheered me up. It’s hit and miss round me though a couple of spots I was pleasantly surprised at the numbers but a couple of others almost nothing. Heard a few lads saying they have seen a few kicking about in spots that were very thin on ground a couple of years ago though so fingers crossed ??.
  16. The only way a fresh rabbit could harm a ferret is if it had some kind of poison in its system (pesticides from crops?) and freezing may not solve that...I have ALWAYS fed mine a fresh rabbit after they’ve been out (or I’ve been lamping or shooting) and then freeze the rest for another day and I have not had a problem. Yes the very very very occasional unexplained death over the 30 odd years that I have owned ferrets but that’s all. I have also fed mine plenty of rabbits that have myxi and (I suspect but can’t know) RVHD and it’s not been a problem. Both diseases only affect rabbits (possibly
  17. My whippet chased a couple of big fallow does across a large wheat field the other week and made absolutely no attempt to actually catch them but kept up with them just fine! Gave them some exercise for the day! He is bloody fast but a rabbit dog and no more think he just fancied a chase ??. The big lurcher who doesn’t mind a deer has been made to look slow by deer a few times however....
  18. Not trying to be nasty mate but you won’t find it on here! Only place you’ll find it is knocking on doors or getting friends and family to ask people they know who own land. Might be worth starting off with asking about ferreting and then once you’ve been a couple of times ask if it’s ok to have a shine. People are less keen to let you on at night especially if they don’t know you. Good luck!
  19. Already done mate ??. Should’ve been plan A since the start, we were always going to get stitched up by those c*nts in Brussels.
  20. My mum always said the only good cat is a dead cat.....??
  21. Appreciate the advice but I have other working collars so I know the box is working, I have changed the batteries for new ones and also put batteries from a working collar in the faulty one so know it’s not a battery issue. Have been in touch with deben and going to send it back to them to have a look at but from what they said it may be knackered as it’s a sealed unit..... Thanks for replying though mate.
  22. I have tried that and it worked before but no luck this time....thanks for your advice though ??
