  2. Yes I would say you could be right about the scratching and head shaking,it just scabs then cracks and bleeds it appears to be infected have just treated again with hydrogen peroxide as it seems to be cleaning it up quite well, and have given it a spray with savlon spray plaster antiseptic. Collar sounds a good idea will pick one up. I was concerned it was one of these flesh rotting diseases. Thanks for advice mate
  3. Good call davey, I could do with that one in my library mate, I would like to know how you go about bandaging up a dogs ear. I guess there's a way to do it, will put skycats book to of my birthday list.
  4. Thanks lads is definitely a infection peroxide has cleaned it up quite well as in removed all the dead skin and has left it a nice pink colour wondering if I should seal it up with some Vaseline maybe to stop any shit from getting in I will try and put some pictures up thanks for your reply lads.
  5. Dog split his ear back in November and has just not healed I have tried all the usual including a trip to vets for antibiotics and hibi scrub but it appears worse now. I have posted some time ago about this and got loads of good advise which I took on board using potassium permanganate but still no good I now have time to rest him and get it sorted. Wondered if anyone else has used hydrogen peroxide to treat infections and if so did it work. Have been advised 15% peroxide mixed 50/50 with water. Cheers
  6. I went on Sunday it was the same as most years, same faces coursing and showing all pot hunters, but of a different type to me. However I had a chat to Jeff Burrell and received plenty of good advice also spoke to a couple of Newcastle lads that were very well traveled with some exceptional dogs that had Jeff's bloodline in them. Have just heard that Mondays show has been cancelled I would imagine the the whole show has been blown into the next field.

Yeah they have done well for a bunch of Germans
  8. You just have to wear a special big coat. Yep big enough to conceal your wheel barrow
  9. Someone knows that is really going on. If only we could live under common law as agreed Magna Carta and all that. But the b*****ds keep making up statute laws that serve no benefit except taking money from us
  10. All because the owner of the dogs used to beat them with a golly...
  11. Have you seen Chris Eubanks new book about 'Ethics' ? If it's a success he's going to write one about 'Kent' too.
  12. true with longer lead, had Buck out last year with the bike , a rabbit run across the lane, pulled me into the edge, i tried to hold him back and brake, but no good he was to strong. i not sure if the main road be better,as i wouldnt see any rabbits or tree rats , as i do see the odd one or two in the lanes . keep the odds in your favour a quiet country road better for you ray. with the main road you are increasing your chances of getting hit by a car traveling at a good speed. as you know you can and do see wildlife on busy main roads. true Hey bird looks like you stole that
  13. She looks well built mate With good feet sure she do you well
  14. And you may find yourself in another part of the world And you my ask yourself .....
  15. Used that for my old terriers they had skin problems homeopathic vet advised that but the little bits used to eat it and boy did it give them the shits:)
  16. Try leaving a bowl out side to fill with rain water, lot of shit gets put in our tap water IE fluride chlorine chemicals that smell wrong to your dog, that said mine drinks tap water as he has dry feed as well as raw. But given the choice he would rather puddle water or river stream lake ditch think he only drinks tap water when he has no choice. Atb with it mate
  17. Lots of trips away in camper, stalk a few carp out,do some game fairs kelmarsh next weekend. Will be fun to see if the dog will still chase a sack after a busy winter on the real thing, also renew my subscription to cmw (expensive fire lighting material) and pick up a few game pies. Then staight of to raydown leaze wiltshire for a few days with mrs and dog minus the kids After looking at fugis post definitely going to Scotland this year some stunning scenery to take in. Also read my mates library of hunting books,he has built up of 30 years or more, currently just starting a Moocher's tale by
  18. would I be right in thinking the reason for out crossing is to create a stud dog with all necessary traits that match the original line, as without this the original line would become sterile. Also in outcrossing the subsequent litters would go through the same selection process before being put back to the original line Seems like a very lengthy process if that's right, but I can see that you could end up with some very good consistent dogs How many generations can be bred before an outcross is required, as you wouldn't know if you had a litter full of jaffas
  19. you mean the barbaric days...Depends how long rope was used
  20. In the good old days pups were tied to Rams for a day or two to teach them respect for sheep I was once told.
  21. Me too 50mg a day 5 weeks now can't say I have noticed any difference in my self tbo. Wife seems to think I have picked up a bit ? Apparently it's a very slow accumulation process to level out the chemicals in your brain.
  22. Reading some of these posts has made me realise how little I know tbo, so many factors to consider. I now can see why when people put 2 good workers together you seldom get pups that work to the same standard as parents. Where as in breeding and line breeding you know your going to have a litter of replicas pretty much. It must take years of carefull selection to perfect I want to breed from my dog at a later date and I am in contact with his siblings, not sure how conversation would go down with owners though
  23. I think all families will need to outcross at some point, and that is where danger lies. When you have spent years purifying or narrowing your gene pool it is impossible to have your eye on everything and some things are unseen. You can inbreed to do good or bad. You are engineering nature and all inbreeding is doing for you is vastly speeding up natural selection. The responsibility for the right selection lies with you. When you outcross you allow in thousands of genes, some of which can undo all the good work you have done.If possible an out and out outcross should be avoided and distantly re
  24. Bloody good write up by jeemes. Helped me get my head round it a bit better ,but why and when do things go wrong.I am thinking of plumbers line of lurchers. Thought you needed to outcross to refresh the gene pool. Cheers
