  1. I must admit i normally go mad on the running end of augaust early september then get sick of sweating and long grass so end up leaving it a few weeks anyway. We all got our different ways of doing things at the end of the day good luck to anyone actually getting out there n doing what they can.
  2. They wouldnt be peak fitness but id be disapointed if they didnt stop a few. You can trot jog swim free run a dog all you like the only thing that gets a dog properly fit is plenty of hunting and plenty of rest.
  3. Dont do much really apart from up food. Bit of walking and runs here and there and just build it up. If the dogs got it its got it.
  4. All the best with the litter mate ??
  5. Haha i know the feeling gb. Spot on ??
  6. Hovis fly is where its at free lined on the surface. Absolutely bagged up on trout this year keeping the dogs fed and me busy for an hour or two in the early mornings or evenings.
  7. I feed alot of trout this time of year with abit of tripe or chicken. Can get bootloads of lamb offcuts for next to nothing but too fatty for this weather i think. Winter is different plenty lamb n beef. One thing i can never understand is why folk feed mince constantly. Whenever ive seen pet mince it goes well watery once defrosted.
  8. Nice that is. When i think of a whippet thats the sort what comes to mind ??
  9. What makes you like the bit of deerhound in there mud ? Some nice types they seem to do well for you
  10. I think most dogs should do a few rabbit n the odd fox shouldnt they ?
  11. Need to find yourself a good vet or two look after them n they look after you ??
  12. I think sometimes expecting too much of a single dog far too early. But thenagain thats why ive never bred a lurcher litter and allways tried to buy/be given better
  13. Nice strong dog for a coursing type. Dont see too many like that now best of luck finding him a couple chancy bitches.
  14. Aye i know what ya mean. Some of the fitness regimes you see on hear must take more out the dog then the nights lamping lol.
  15. Some people like to keep themselves fit and the dogs just come along for the journey. Im out morst mornings or late evenings upto sommat only downside is dogs can get on things sometimes when you least want them too.no stubble here yet i find it allways takes a couple days to settle n things to venture back out anyway even if the ground wasnt cracked and rock hard.
  16. To be honest i thought itbwas worth a watch alone just to see how brazen they are. I near pissed myself when i seen that one climb up the mans face ? couldnt think of owt worse
  17. Found this thought mightbbe worth a look for some ? ratting in new york https://youtu.be/jL0x5oBFC1w
  18. I dont think any animal could make what you call a full recovery from that but the dogs still alive n getting about. I seen sommat jump infront of her and still put in a better run than what some dogs do with 4 legs ?
  19. Im not sure what was actually done about it i carried the bitch off the field when it happened could it was broken without the x-ray. But she is still about just with a slight limp.
  20. I think big or small strong or thin i think it mainly comes downnto how committed the dog is. The gooduns that try hard allways seem to come a cropper. it amazes me what they can recover from.
  21. Done a hell of alot of forestry hunting last winter. Ran some disgusting places n was fairly lucky very rare id come away empty handed had some cracking catches but running a dog thats even half committed you will get injuries same with any other type of lurcher work.the best dogs ive seen for the forest and plantations where i go where bull cross but seen loads catch here n there.
  22. Aye if you enjoy it good luck to ya. To me it can be just another couple of carvases to sort out without the pleasure of seeeing a good run ??
  23. I have the odd night gps on the dog and just letting him loose in some areas its alright but not really sport is it lol.
