Pup Come Across Some Strange Cat On The Beach
Tozer replied to flipbull's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
The Waterloo cup wasn't far from there, I have been stopping in Wigan for 9 years on and off, and have only just realised how close it is to the bloody sea -

I walked miles of those Formby sand dunes, found the odd one to mess about with? Is there the odd hare in edge the dunes there too I thught i saw some sign of them. -
Looks a good day, exactly what I bought mine for. I always find it amusing that we all seem to make the same noises in these videos: "wersit" "ga-on" "ere... ere... ere" "g-through" All mine have the same narration
-
I kind of meant do they count within the flushing team, but if you are after foxes then it all becomes a bit irrelevant, I have read the hunting act, it pickles my brain a bit (not that it takes much), I can see what they did, trying to legislate something that isn't black and white without leaving everyone open to prosecution from accidents etc.

I take mine to formby. She is constantly scanning and stalks anythijng poking up -
I just read this properly. I reguarly take 3 dogs rabbiting. You bump into the odd fox. Does this include lurchers or just flushing dogs? (

I'll have a think on this. I have ab ebtire winter to think. Cheers for the input

Yeah all these things can go wrong, I would only ever send one down. The ones I am thinking off I hope are just a straight tunnel in the crease of a round bale, but you never know where there are gaps. One of my dogs won't go in far, the other one gets in and through them like a ferret, but I wouldn't fancy her chances facing a fox, she is only small.
-
I have done this before as a teenager 15 years ago, but I haven't tried since the ban, I haven't really shot or worked dogs for 10 years.
-
Dumb question, I have been asked to shoot some foxes locally, they are in the bales, would I be breaking the law letting the terrier flush them out and shooting them? I.e. classed of being to ground? My own choice I am going to try and put this off to September, I don't like leaving cubs. I kind of know what people are going to say, but I did wonder.

I guess if someone has a dog, he might not object to putting it over a grew or similar, but yeah I can 't imagine many farmers breeding them.
-
I always liked the look of the dogs from TV growing up, I saw a pair of ACD's at a game fair and they barked the whole day. But they looked hardy and the vids of them hunting in OZ look good.
-
Thanks Neal, and your right they do produce good lurchers, until I got this little bitch for the last few years I always had ACD first cross greyhound, all good workers but this little bitch has been the special one, her prey drive, scenting and ability to catch considering her lack of top end speed is great, still going strong at 7 but sadly probs my last dally with ACD, Are there any working ACD's in the UK and anyone breeding lurchers from them? I love the look of your dog.

whos advice matt to have her spade Willow it is the advice of the vet mate alongside my obsessive research lol. I am not one for going along with vets usual speel about it being safer to spay to avoid long term problems etc and have only ever spayed a bitch once before when she had a serious womb infection later in life. But in this particular instance having spoken to more than one vet (one of which is a friend of my Dads and we have used for years) I think I going to stick with this option. I have always had bitches and never found seasons a real problem, but the bitch ended up on a d

where was this? not Britain. Are you trying to be smug? Australia. Not really, just making a comment on the difference. I'm not taking him out though bugger that. We've been getting hit pretty hard by the antis, especially the fellas hunting pigs with their dogs. Won't be long and we may be dealing with the same. I can't imagine the crap you blokes have to put up with The thing about oz is it is so vast. What ever they ban how will they know what you are upto?
-
you are in a similar boat to me, on my their own I can get a retrieve, well the terrier has to make VERY sure it is dead first then will bring it into my vicinity.
-
I've got the same problem mate, I would like to get it fixed, Krawdan seems to have his behaving themselves.
-
I've got the same problem with mine, I didn't think about it when I bought the pup, she is reluctant to go in now. That pup is coming on well
-
I liked it a while ago. It is scary how close to the real thing it is. Do upu think there are many sabs who have iked it without realising?
-
I must admit. I started on raw with mine. Fazed her onto dry and now I am back on raw. I can find it difficult yo maintain condition on dry. It is a lot more pleasent picking up on raw. Even with the high quality dry.
-
My old half terrier used to kill them. She had no problem. The only one that caused problems she grabbed by the back end as it dived for the water. It spun round and clamped on her backside. like anything that bit her she just crunched it until it stopped making crunching noises. They end up all floppy. I don't remember a smell unlike stoats and weasels
-
Cheers, I guess it confirms the people saying coursing bred dogs are better workers. I don't know many people with the direct comparison

Out of interest, what is a working Irish terrier? They were never earth dogs, what is expected from one?
