Me? I work a pair of Plummer crosses and a saluki whippet of 6 ( I said 7 but it is 6) months. After a 10 year break I am just getting out and abut again.
-
I actually left some rabbits over the summer for a bit of sport in the winter and mixie has wiped the lot out Shame that, it also broke out same time last year at another spot i used to take the other dog too and if you go for a stroll there now your'e lucky if you see a single rabbit. I took the ferret down and had a look, the dogs picked up a mixie whilst I was netting up. 1 rabbit is all that bolted!

I put these in the bushing section but I like to share the pictures I like, took these Friday, 6 months old now: And one of the terrier afrer being chased out of a paddock by a horse

I didn't think of this when I bought mine. But it is proving to be a problem already.

I just tried to film my pairs reaction to that noise. They were bouncing round the room. I'll get a couple of videos. Just missed the deer slinking out of cover out of site of the dogs yesterday. Would have made a nice shot.

There are some woods I walk. They're full of squirrels. There are a few beagle owners that walk there. You know they are coming because you hear that and you know who they are because they are walking with a lead and bo dog

Nuice video willow. I can 't seem to get that bit on camera! Mine only yip when they are tight behind a rabbit. You have to gauge it on the speed of the noise they make through cover.

Cheers Leethedog, She was sold as a plummer terrier from Cambridge way, I think there is a fair bit of Plummer in there but I don't know about the rest. Solid bitch 14.5" TTS, she is quite slow to develop mentally compared to her sister (the white and brown one) but I think she'll come good for next season.

I kept trying mine too young, won't do it again, the two terriers in the pics are a shade over 1yr and the lurcher is only 7 months. The lurcher is along for a jolly, she pays attention when it's exciting and plays about when she wants Give them plenty of time over the summer, if it is only 7 acres you'll work it to death quickly. Try finding some canal banks abandoned railway etc with a few odds and sods on to let them have a practice, at least that's what I did Hours of fun without worrying about ruining your own ground too much.

Is it me or is it the law to take the dogs out when the snow is on the ground? Today I have seen pheasant, rabbit, hare, rabbit, fox, roe, snipe and woodcock, a bit more than I expected to see. Took the camera instead of relying on the phone today, still only pups, the farmer thinks I am catching rabbits, really I'm just having a wander and letting the dogs learn I love this bit of land

I've been trying to get some footage whilst out this is about the best I could manage. The dogs are learning their jobs. http://vid78.photobucket.com/albums/j98/Tozer559/Dogs%20bushing_zpskbhu66lo.mp4

Does it also count if I am holding an air rifle?

Cracking photo that..., very 'artistic'. Could be an album cover! Unfortunately it isn't my talent! She even cut me out the shot!
-
I almost forgot about this one, I've only got pups at the minute. The misses took it, I was trying some training on the beach, the lurcher is looking at a crow that landed behind her.
-
There must be a knack to getting the camera in the right place at the right time, I can't manage it!
-
Cracking WCM, some stunning looking bushers dogs and some nice lurchers.

So there once was a good tradition of sighthounds in Northern Europe? I was in Finland last August, and there were a lot of hares knocking around and I was wondering if anyone ran them.
-
I might have the wrong end of this stick, but a lot of the discussion from this seems to point to the fact that it is pretty unique to the UK to use dogs to catch large running game in Europe. I can't find much on running dogs in the rest of northern Europe.

I've got two terriers from the same litter, one is a solid lump and 14.5 tts, the other is 12.5 tts and a lot finer build, both could be called 'leggy' for a terrier. I wanted a larger terrier, as much to stop them going to ground, the smaller one is epic at the minute, she can get through anywhere. If she was shorter in the leg she would get tired, but the extra bit allows her to cover ground all day long. She never stops hunting. She is fine enough to get under a pallet sideways to kill rats, she's done it already! The pair of them have learnt to jump too, if they can't get through they

I have only been shooting/hunting since 2000 really. But I always expect to see young rabbits about the end of February if we get that first bit of warm sun as the days creep longer. Definitely come march here in the Midlands. It might be different elsewhere round here higher up.
-
They do seem to be dropping them early, I wouldn't have thought badgers/foxes would change as quickly, rabbits are much more opportunistic,
-
When were you ferrets nicked? I'm sure someone on here has a spare couple. Good to see a dog catching.
-
Cheers. I'm enjoying this I got the dogs to give me a kick up the arse to get back going again.

lurchers looking nice tozer, was the plummer newport/pontypool way? Cheers, so far she is what I was hoping for, lovely calm dog, you can't raise your voice to her. I picked up the terrier from Cambridge way, I believe the dam had come from Wales. The terrier is doing well, she has her faults, but I like having her about and she is only young. what faults would you say As I said she is only young she could be anothervyear before she settles into it. But doesn't naturally enter cover. She does when something is there. She'll hang about outside like a lurcher. Then dash in when the
