i love terrier racing it is hilarious, and yes they do tend to scrap and fight a bit but that makes it funnier in my opinion, my teckel x border once won the racing at the Thame country show, the only other entrants were JRT's and she beat them all!! its a good display, its good PR, its funny and better than standing in a ring to decide who has the prettiest dog! i remember living up north and the local lurcher club ran a "race" Night, no shows just race after race after race, terriers, lurchers etc.....a great laugh and a good night!

an exception under the legislation regarding wild food is small amounts to local markets, you dont need all teh chillers etc... then! i sell small amounts quiet regualry to local butchers (upto 40 a week at one!)

Funny aint it how people who dont know or conspire (that was a pun to the topic thread) together come to the same conclusions sometimes, amazing as well when they do and they are all wrong, independant of each other they come to the same wrong conclusion!!

My lad is 10 now, he first came ferreting when he was 4! he now ferrets, shoots occasionally and works the dogs at bushing rabbits with me My little girl came ferreting for the first time last sunday, she's 2 she will be 3 in december For Foxyjo and Mrs L n L here she is looking at the shetland ponies next door and at the end of the day!

my opinel has a sleeve thing at the point where the blade joins the handle, when the blade is out the sleeve can be twisted round and it prevents the blade folding in, thus it locks! Mackem, Pigs are great, well some are.....i eat lots of pork, bacon and gammon....in fact i am having pork and apple sausages for tea.............in toad in the hole..............dont let your paranoid fear from a few pigs put you off the entire race,

Knowing that someone is breaking the law and not telling the police is not conspiracy......it might be assisting an offender or concealing an offender but it wouldn't be conspiracy to commit the offence, unless you assisted in teh actual act.......unlawful hunting ...acting as a beater etc.... the assisting and concealing an offender would be hard to prove anyway and wouldn't be persued in this case, thats more for hiding someone in your house when the police are looking for them whether it would be an offence or whether it would be investigated....its attracting bad press and sh

You've all confused the lad and the issue. You can carry any blade if you gave lawful authority or reasonable excuse, lawful authority (the example given in a blackstones law book) is a soldier with a bayonet, reasonable excuse would include the chef on his way to work, someone out ferreting/shooting etc..with permission the exception in section 139 of the criminal justice act, exception means you can carry at any time without a reasonable excuse or lawful authority, is a knife with a folding blade which isn't longer than 3inch and which doesn't lock open! Little Butch...you mentio

further into the definition sect 139 of the CJA it mentions swiss army knifes, one of those is an ideal pocket tool! avoid any where the blade locks open, so the only knives are those which if pressed/pushed the wrong way will fold shut and cut your fingers.....hence they are useless for a knife fight or robbery, but adequate for general pocket knife use the cutting edge is simply the sharp part of the blade. In your circumstances a swiss army knife would be ideal and can be used for gutting the occasional rabbit also! something like this would be ideal! http://www.victorin

he should be.....its getting rougher and both the parents were, the lads who own the dam and sire both come on here, Ruger8 and Capreolus.....here's a link to a thread with the stud dog, there are pics of the rest of the litter and dam on here, the pics dont do the dam justice though http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...2&hl=teckel

some fine hounds on this thread, and the beagle pup looks very nice and i am sure she will do you well, noticed the old beagle dog next to the border and he is a small but well formed hound aint he, the beagles i have been out with are a tad taller than him, i fancied a beagle or a beagle cross but then i got the teckel pup....mainly cos they are smaller and space is an issue at home.........however a beagle like him would have done! Besides i already have the teckel x bitch and like her hunting style here's my pack of rabbit hounds including the new entry, cant wait for when i can get

Terriers need to be brought up with ferrets from a young age and that includes playing with them when the pups 8 weeks old etc....otherwise keep the two apart or you will have a dead ferret. all my dogs are kept next to and in sight of my ferrets and grow up with them there and knowing that they aren't to be harmed! all my dogs will kill rats so i was puzzled by Stubbys ratting dog being unsteady with ferrets.....if trained and brought up right they should be able to tell at a glance/sniff what they have in front of them, and when kept in such close quaters as mine are they know what i

i use the "karate" chop or my other favourite the long drop i am a big strong lump and kill first time with my two techniques, i use the chop a lot on netted rabbits and never have any survivors, i did once when a teenager when trying to workout the chinning up method, the bugger got up and ran......i had a dog which made sure it didn't run far though! so after that bad attempt at chinning up i have stuck to the chop and can kill instantly and very well.......but i think a lot of that is how strong i am (i aint bragging but i'm 6'02" and weigh 19stone)....and with my nets the head alw

sound advice get a dog you like, your more likely to bond, train and spend time witha dog that you have an affection for rather than one you think you should get!
-
good going, you dont know if you dont ask! and well done on thinking of alternative landowners golf courses and the nursery...........farmers are a strange breed and other types of landowners can lead to some good land
-
sound advice, just to add a longnet doesn't require the training etc...of a lurcher and i have ferreted with terriers, small hounds and a spaniel and they have been handy in thick cover and with longnets or when a badly set net half catches a rabbit....any dog is quicker than you to a badly set net! that said lurchers have their place but i dont have one and i catch LOTS of rabbits
-
my kind of ferreting longnets and small dog to chase/pin into the net.......ooh and the kid tagging along just like me!
-
that sounds a good idea....it was loud and fine when i collared up and tested it.....then quiet! all's well that ends well, just skinned the rabbits!
-
ask 10 different ferreters which dog is best to assist with ferreting and you will get 10 different answer! ranging from terriers, hounds, spaniels and obviously running dogs from whippets to lurchers and greyhounds.... a lot depends on how you ferret and the land that you ferret over. But any dog must be 110% around ferrets and livestock and the rest depends on how you operate!

well done little Maltenby!

went ferreting this morning for a couple of hours, took both of my kids with me, my lad who is 10 and my little girl who is 2.....well its time she went , i know i left it a bit late but she is catching up, including when the 2nd bunny bolted "daddy , more rabbits come out" which alerted me to teh rabbit wrigging around in the net, we caught 3 rabbits, one of the ferrets laid up and the collar battery had died (it worked ok at the start)...not knowing where she was, i filled in all the holes (we were only doing a small five holer) and i brought the kids home , the farmer was doing some fencing

sounds good fun!
