    Knife

i got a winchester lock knife when i was in the USA it cost $8 and is fantastic, sharp, stainless, has a thumb knob so can be opened with one hand, and a belt clip, so it can be fastened in your pocket,(the clip is well designed and doesn't get in the way like others i have held with clips) the handle is a wood inlay that is varnished so doesn't absorb wet/blood etc, very sharp and i haven't sharpened it yet and have had it nearly a year, a very well honed and designed blade that holds a sharp edge I haven't seen anything as cheap and as good in the UK, if you know anyone going to the stat
  3. get a JRT or a Border, or a cross bred, i would avoid Patterdales and such like unless you are going to be doing a lot of digging, they need that kind of work. my brother once had a little cross bred terrier (we got her from the coalman) and despite not knowing how she was bred, and the fact she was the ugliest dog i have every seen with no normal terrier looks or traits (she was basically a small docked mongrel), she was great for the kind of knock about hunting you are on about. Or get a failed earth dog, there are lots of possibilities, but borderboy is correct its the training tha

    rat nets

dont bother with the ones from KP&S i have ten , and they are crap, they do stop a rat but only just, they are a cheap plastic netting cut to size with rings and a draw cord, a friend of mine makes them out of hemp they are scaled down rabbit nets and these are better, try and get a local net maker to knit you some, I have seen them at country fairs, have a look around? I have also seen those nets set on about 5" rings which then taper to a point , you place the ring around the rat hole and they run into the end. I have tried the ladies stocking on a tin can, it works but
  6. Further to the above, i may have a job (paid) in the grounds of a big country hotel, and due to the guests i will have to get a silencer before i can shoot rabbits in the gardens..

The Saddlery & Gunroom are now the owner of the famous ‘Hushpower’ name, and can now supply silenced versions of .410 and l2bore single barrelled shot guns, as
  8. I haven't got a hushpower , but was considering getting the hushpower silencer for my baikal 410, i have read the hushpower details on the internet and they work by allowing the gasses to escape after the shot has left the cartridge and before the shot leaves the barrel, on my understanding this shouldn't affect the performance only the sound, the same amount of force goes into making the shot leave the cartridge. Apparently a shotgun makes noise as the gases leave the barrel and the hushpower thing allows it to leak out the sides! Its the same bloody cartridge, so the distan
  9. http://www.gun-control-network.org/GCN02.htm I was looking for info on hushpower 410 silencers and came accross the above on a google search? Interesting reading... COMPO
  10. http://www.justcartridges.com/news.html I have just stumbled across the above whilst browsing, their prices seem ok, you apparently order over the net and they deliver to your address, how do they check your shotgun cert? does the postman? are they reliable? does anyone else use them? Also i have just bought a Baikal 410 , single barrel , 26" barrels 3" chambers, brand new £95, lovely little gun does anyone else have one of these? what cartridges fire best with it? I have bought some gamebore 3" number 6's and some express 3" number 5's. The local gunshop has a goo

    Help!

QUINNY MARK's probably right you will get one ferret and in two years time you will have half a dozen and a load more permission, at least with a jill you can breed your own replacments, and i am sure someone would lend you a hoblet to take her out of season or a full hob if you want to breed! Help!

There you go QUINNY you should be very confused by all this advise :11: Mark a. when i was saying about my brother keeping two hobs they are a pair of brothers i bred and they have lived together all there lives, but you are right i would never advocate keeping two hobs together, i have a hoblet (vasectomised hob) and a full hob and from febuary until october they will fight on sight and need to be kept well apart or i would only have one hob left! suprisingly the littlest -the hoblet- usually wins when they go for it he is only about two thirds the size weight of the o

    Help!

sorry didn't answer all your questions the first time, you have to wait until the ferret is fully grown before getting them "done" as mentioned by maty j the hobs goolies have to have dropped, and the jill would have to be fully grown, but why bother if you only want one ferret just get a hob, when i didn't do a lot of ferreting and just wanted to bolt a few for my lurcher i had a lone hob, my brother who only goes ferreting a few times a year has a couple of hobs i prefer jills for rabbiting but have had some belting hob ferrets that would work all day, hobs dont tire as easily as j

    Help!

Either will do the job for rabbits, but i prefer Jills, either can be neutered but why bother, if i was just getting one ferret i would keep a hob, no seasons and no worries. COMPO
