  1. My uncle had ferrets and i grew up handling and playing with ferrets at his house, a neighbour of ours had ferrets also. we moved to a farm when i was 13 and the old neighbour and a mate of his came upto the farm to go ferreting, in due course they gave me a ferret, i bought a few nets, my uncle gave me another ferret and i was away
  2. the main butcher that i sell my rabbits to lets me have whatever he is throwing, bones meat/chicken carcasses after they have taken the breasts/wings/legs off....butchers have to pay for waste removal/disposal.......i see it as part of the deal on top of the cash for the bunnies
  3. started ferreting with some borrowed hemp nets, they had the stopping ability of a paper bag! they need lots of attention nylon is the only way forward for me, i currently use 10oz nylon pursenets, they dont rot and are heavy and tangle less than the lighter stuff, spun nylon is also good. Get what you can afford!
  4. Bought a 3 month old hob kit this morning! He is a bit lively and needs a bit of handling but he is settling in well and i think he will be very big when he has finished growing! Here's a few pics of him with his new owner! my daughter Milly has claimed him and he is called boots after Dora the explorer's sidekick the monkey Boots! which is her favourite cartoon the last pic he fell asleep in my hand!
  5. My brother has for sale a dog and a bitch border terrier pups for sale £450 each born on the 14/06/08 deposits being taken to secure. KC registered. Not working terriers per se, the mother however is a handy ferreting, rabbiting and ratting bitch and has put up and accounted for foxes from cover. He also has several ferret kits free to good working moocher home's. Ring Richard 07951 721565 i have put his mobile number up as he is due to buy a house and move this coming week
  6. i was sat in that car in the rain with you then! Well told, had a similar call once myself, went ferreting on one of my permissions, he happens to mention losing a few hens, will i have a look for the fox, had a good day ferreting, went home and after dinner went up.....sat over looking the hen run and within 15minutes i had shot charlie!
  7. judges and magistrates who dont live in the real world!
  8. A lot of these offences are prosecuted by the council and their street wardens! it would be littering....but as masmiffy said they were advised.hurry up and clear off. same with most laws, its only a problem if someone complains, rabbit guts are bio-degradeable and eaten by corvids, foxes and badgers etc....however try and be discreet and dont get caught and no one will know or care! I must admit i have done the same, when ferreting roadsides, and once when i couldn't gut them where i caught them. But try and find a lay by with a nearby bunch of tree's.....out ofsight out of
  9. cant go wrong with the mp153.......thought about selling mine but fell back in love with it, i can shoot better with my side by side. But i like the semi auto sometimes too, and i used it a couple of weeks ago and shot a flying pigeon and then a running rabbit! i use lots of 2 & 3/4 inch cartridges in mine and have used upto 3.5 inch carts all ejected and cycle perfectly, including heavy loads that were used in the top two pics! if i am correct even un-restricted they can only hold 4 cartridges max....hardly worth the effort for 1 more shot! you can buy tube exten

  12. dogs do it to piss their owners off! simple!
  13. You can do more than Hope....you can stop arguing, meet with the other breeders/organisations and work out a way of compromising and moving forward! Your whole attitude seems to exude defencisim, let stuff go, see that people aren't havinga go or preaching. the lad on about recognising inherent problems and trying to breed them out........you started bringing up lab's and other breeds with problems and accusing him of saying the breeders had failed.......he was saying they try and eliminate problems by testing and breeding wisely which he wanted the Plummer terrier breeders to do!
  14. I believe he scan read and read you wrong, i knew what you meant UN-ENTERED
  15. hard to say i am crap at judging distances, about 30-35 yards!
  16. i think its for cutting the end of hand rolled cigars!
  17. what is the fox eating? last fox i shot was eating my farmer friends hens....i sat waiting in the adjacent wood (nearest cover) and shot foxy as she went towards the hen run! i have used a stink pit before, loads of rotten bits of meat, left over's and rabbit guts and other crap! at least then you know where they will be, and if you top up the pit at the same time everynight....you may find the foxes there shortly after! You can then pick a place thats a safe shot and within range of whatever weapon you are using and from the relevant hide you will be using!
  18. Out for half an hour yesterday evening, shot four but lost one in the nettles anyway ferrets fed for a while and farmer happy, these were shot in a place where i cant really ferret
  19. thought provoking and good suggestions DS! I have paid particular attention to my garden and am confident that it is pretty secure.....nothing is impenetrable but you can make it very hard....in which case they go do someone else's shed/garden and your right its not always p***y's......sometimes its people you think you know..............other times it is p***y's (my brother caught two once in the act so to say!) regardless of who the thief is.....make it as hard as you possibly can and a lot of it is common sense and locking up tools etc...a bit of strategic plant placement and a f
  20. i grew up on a farm, we had a few goats, we reared calfs and had a few sheep as well. when we left the farm my brother rented what some would call an allotment, however it was much bigger than a council allotment and several other rented the land up there and kept small amounts of livestock my brother had pigs, chickens, and a goat. the amount of damage a goat can do and how hard they are to keep in you seriously wouldn't believe. The ones who are trying to tell you not to get a goat are speaking from experience, we all learn from our mistakes....but really wise people learn fro
  21. without meaning to stir shit......i did contemplate a plummer terrier , i mostly ferret, and do a bit of rough shooting and other vermin control, i wanted a small game dog for marking, ratting, bushing and whatever else i may decide to do/need to do. Basically a sporting companion/vermin dog! All the arguing and the different types and clubs put me off! i got a teckel she suits me and does what i need/want what has suffered from my decision? the plummer terrier as a breed, one less owner, one less terrier, one less being worked, one less potential breeder..........all the heads of t
  22. the most i have ever had was 6 ferrets, that was 1 vasectomised hob and 5 working jill's, i work shifts and have a lot of time off work, i can ferret twice a week and i liked to take different ferrets out on alternate days so they could rest and to keep them fresh, i only have 3 working jills now, and also sadly lost my vasectomised hob a month ago! i will be buying a new hob and getting him snipped this year! The ferret competition was on a private shooting estate. the landowner wanted the rabbits controlling but obviously didn't want the pheasants or shoot days disturbing.
  23. I dont like the idea of culling, i very rarely breed and i think that is one of the benefits we have over previous generations snipped hob's and the ability to bring a jill out without producing extra ferrets. I am a Hunter "type" but i like my ferrets, and if i was unable to get out hunting cos of some disability or such i reckon i may keep 1 or 2 for the interest.. I dont feel that show "type" people have ruined ferrets......more ferrets being incirculation has made vets and such learn a bit more about them, rather than when i was a kid and i took a ferret to the vets (i had an ap
  24. there is obviously a certain element of interpretation regarding pre-convictions....but these are law you are Prohibited from ever owning a firearm (and shotgun) if you were convicted and sentenced to more than 3 years prison (not what you served-what you were sentenced to) and you are probihited for 5 years if you were sentenced to between 3 months and 3 years prison (the 5 years runs from date of release) obviously 3 years or more would have to be serious offences!
