  1. My little girls called Milly If your other half likes Mildred, why not let her call her Mildred and shorten it to Milly, you said you liked lilly, and it ryhms? It is hard sometimes picking names, we wanted to avoid names of anyone we knew, and we had to like the name, second names can help the first, some fit together well like "ann marie" , my little ones middle name is Ruth after my nanna. Hope you can find a name you both like

  4. i think she's put the link up as its a recent and very similar debate? and may answer some of the questions asked on this thread?
  5. been in bed both days, working nights
  6. good advice about letting the pup play with a skin, also take the pup out early or late in theday when rabbits are out feeding, the pup will chase the rabbits and will follow into thecover, it will start to associate the smell and the runs into cover with the fun of chasing bunnies also if the pups smelling at a rabbit run and hesitating about going in, throw a few stones into the cover well in front of the pup, the pup should become interested and go to explore, i do this witha hissing sound and now if i see a rabbit/fox/rat etc, go into cover and the dog doesn't i point at the cover and
  7. if you only keep a terrier to dig foxes it wont do a lot of work Always hunted everything with mine, and so did my brother and he had proper underground terriers my little hound makes a different noise when behind a fox or deer to when behind a rabbit, my brothers terriers never bothered with rabbits below ground only foxes
  8. thanks shiny.....i am already in negative points cos of all the fecking hedgehogs! several times this year i have had to get out of bed to throw hedgehogs out of teh garden cos the dogs going mad at em not eaten as she is in a run, but she wont let them be anywhere in teh yard and i am working this weekend so wont be starting til monday night anyway Tally ho! and shinyspade, you cant count thel urcher, nice try
  9. excellent one with the teckel and roedeer!
  10. Whats happened with this dog? there seemed to be a fair few lads trying to help you out by taking him? or have you bought a roof for therun or a chain for his neck?
  11. seeing as the vast majority of us are using hounds and spaniels and cross breeds, none of which were ever intended for underground work, NO Waz good idea including the accidental capture of the above bigger game.....mine have had a muntjac nearly once although surely a boar should be more points than a roe? Compo
  12. i dont intentionally hunt hedgehogs....they are accidentally killed whilst hunting rats and rabbits.......my little dog hates them for some reason
  13. citreo and peugeot did a joint build on this the peugeot ones are called Partner...i have a 52 plate partner, but its the one that has back seats, the people carrier version, it still has a huge back and the seats fold flat so i can use it as a van anyway its economical , strong and very roomy inside, i rate mine above any other car/van i have had and when it finally dies...i will buy another mine went all the way round europe this year, belgium, luxembourg, germany, switzerland to the south of france and back! edited to add the boot space in mine!
  14. a good and bad thread at thesame time! its due to people listing points for dogs that the KC have created the monstrousities they have done dont consider form before function! function before form always! so to this thread and the others, one that does the job it was intended to, be that killing rats or bolting foxes/being dug to etc.......
  15. Just got back in, i find that evenings as the suns going down the best time, had a couple of good hunts, and very close in a thick bramble patch, but no catch, still good exercise for man and dog point system suggestion 5 for a charlie (obviously accidentally killed whilst hunting rabbits) 4 for a rabbit (they are hard to catch) 3 for anything else (pheasants etc...) 2 hedgehogs (my teckel x kill's loads ) 1 for rats

    BRAVEHEART

wasn't this the film where they asked the local army to supply troops to make up thenumbers, and one is seen in period costume running up a hill with his specsaver glasses still on didn't someone say it was filmed in Ireland?
  17. i'm not writing the rules but i have taken part in a ferreting competition (it was run like match fisihing alloted plots and finish at 2.30pm) and they counted everything that was a rabbit regardless of size as long as it wasn't a feuteus
  18. I was born in leeds and grew up on teh border of north and west yorks, permission was always hard to get up there, farmers are typically strange and in west yorks even more so, have you tried keepers, shoots, small syndicates, etc.....if its terrier work you want mainly then offer yourself as a beater, most shoots rely on beaters and helpers to do the vermin control from rat, rabbits to foxes and deer at the end of teh shooting season. I landed my first ferreting near where i live now by being a beater, teh keeper gets to know/trust you and as the shooting season finishes i got the chan
  19. hedgehogs, i forgot about them...the teckel x hates hedgehogs and has killed 3 this year she bites through the spines if she cant turn them over
  20. Dan well at the moment i have a cocker spaniel and a teckel x border, then with the teckel dog pup i'm getting, i think i i should have a decent bobbery/bushing pack, i dont have any running dogs at all well so far this season two rabbits, two rats and an injured crow
  21. count me in, however i only have the two dogs at the moment so they dont catch much, next sason when the teckel pup i am getting is running with them it may be more profitable! do we count other various quarry, cos mine have killed a few rats and a crow Bigdan what hounds have you got? and is this excluding folk who run lurchers with their bobbery pack?
  22. coat could have come from the spaniel, my cocker has an awful coat that is really thick and needs clipping lots, the terrier could have been anything as most solid coloured terriers will throw black and the cocker x pat's i have seen were all black! even when the pat was chocolate
  23. i have drove on those roads, and it was scary enough in my peugeot let alone on a bloody set of wheel son my chest!!
  24. as an owner of a small (ish) pure cocker, just adding my bit sorry to those who have seen ths pic before, this was the end of august, when i was out ferreting, the cocker caught the rabbit which was in a patch of grass on a large open field! her first solo rabbit she is show/pet bred and was/is my wifes pet dog, then we moved out of london and i got ferrets again and got back into hunting/shooting etc......! my cocker will hunt and has a good nose, she doesn't have a lot of prey drive and doesn't like fighting through really really dense bramble etc.....she will pin rabbits thoug
