  1. COMPO

    this evening

went for a walk with my lad as the evening set in, there were another two mallard on the small pond that i shot two from on the 1st of september, anyway i dropped one with my old side by side as it tried to take off as tess the dog flew into the water...........watched Hugh fearnly-whittingstall yesterday and fancy crispy duck pancakes!
  2. keep us updated, hope all goes well and in your own words "whoop whoop!"
  3. You have been out with the wrong spaniels then I don't shoot and my spaniel was bought up with lurchers I'd say over a season she probably accounts for as much game as the other dogs. Must admit I've no experience of small hounds though. I looked into getting a Teckel years ago, what put me of though was the stories of them turning a 'deafy' and hunting miles infront. This is the last time i took my spaniel out by herself, i was ferreting but she caught this one by herself.....perhaps i haven't been out with the wrong spaniels She is a good dog and reasonable at hunting and taking

  5. spaniels have a place (as you see above i have a cocker) but they lack the drive, they dont hunt through the tightest places and aren't as keen to take hold of a rabbit/fox etc....although some spaniels i have seen do peg game, but not with the drive and determination of a terrier, although personally i favour small hounds and hound crosses
  6. interesting in how them pups would work out
  7. good pics of bushing dogs, here's mine including my new teckel pup, this pics were taken half an hour ago! no pics of them working as they are usually too deep in cover and just heard

  9. after a previous thread on another forum , a mate who was an ex kennel boy in the late 70's and early 's, was sent a link by me from Leeview to the dog on that site..........the site had it as a bitch....my mate laughed as he said the dog was a very big black dog....like himself the info's only as good as the people putting it up and we all make mistakes
  10. i used to have one that was 11monthly? I remember reading that the cycle of bitches seasons depends on the distant heritage, they reckon dogs are descended from two wild canid's the eurasian wolf and the golden jackal , one being six monthly and the other being yearly........greyhounds and some spaniel breed's carry a lot of golden jackal genetics apparently its what i read once anyway, make of that what you will!
  11. i cdont no how to pics up but i bort him of this site so just go on forsle bit put bushing beagle in and there a photo there hes a cracken looking dog i wood buy anthere one in second but you just carnt find them i shud no iv trid and trid Put the link up on here to where the original thread is as i cant find it! please? i would like to have a look
  12. dont know about the legalities but its good idea....is it legal in France? thats nearer and easy enough to take a few dogs over and back in a weekend i dont think postcodes would work, better to have a register somewhere with all the registered numbers listed, then if i bought your dog we could transfer ownership, also covers if you move house etc..........this would mean that the numbers could be quite low especially if we included leters rather than the 7-8 digits ina postcode? and if owners reported when a dog dies that number could be used again! Good idea, needs some research
  13. Small hounds! teckels, bassets, beagle crosses i have a teckel x and a 7 week old teckel dog pup, plus a cocker spaniel used to have terriers to bush but they aren't as good as a reasonable small hound
  14. a good job well done. and well done on taking pics, its hard when the actions fast!
  15. Sounds good, a great read, felt like i was out there with you, keep practicing the more you shoot with the gun the better you will get

  17. Maine Coons are leggy cats with long coats, I doubt you'd mistake one for a "big cat" here we go again on the definition of a big cat, i accept the zoological definition is a cat that roars, what i reckon people are seeing is big cats! not BIG CATS...........possibly maine coons, more likely the savannah and serval cats though, not native moggies and to the un-initiated big cats! cos they are bigger than the cat that lives next door!!
  18. Just typing this and the wife says , can i have a cat (i'm getting a teckel dog on saturday) she is joking she knows the dogs dont like cats! Bengal kitten £350 in the local paper!!!!!
  19. I have thought about it lots, i saw a cat that wasn't a moggy and after doing lots of research, i believe it was a feral/loose serval or large savannah cat, in fact the shape and ears would suggest that, but i couldn't see the colour as it was in sillouhette I think that the genuine sitings of which i am sure there are loads are diluted by the pillocks who believe that they have seen a puma/leopard/lion/sabre toothed tiger etc.... and has anyone seen a maine coon cat, a lass i work with has two, they are fecking huge bigger than my little teckel dogs, and they are usually a black and s
  20. found this link interesting, a cat breeder in london, Bengal cats,Savannah cats and servals, a serval is about 21inch to the shoulder apparently this is my current thinking of what is seen and presumed to be bigger than it really is! http://www.strawbellcats.co.uk/African_Serval_1.htm
  21. Really is a mystery whats eating your sheep and i hope you find out/stop it! I have seen what i am sure was a cat, it was a big cat but not a big cat, slightly bigger than my 15inch spaniel i believe what are seen are either hybrids (Kellas cats) or the exotic cats that are non-native and kept as pets Savannah cats etc...... i dont believe there are true big cats , puma's and leopards loose in teh UK.....i do thing that there are potentially the smaller exotic types of cat loose, kept as pets and allowed out/escaped/dumped? there are also a type of cat called Maine Coon, which is a
  22. a handy little tool and well worth cabinet space, been thinking of adding a hushpower silencer to mine, just cant afford it at the moment
  23. Had a mornings ferreting, the grass is really too long on my open warrens to do them properly with the longnet, did one open warren and one along a hedge, just used the longnet, caught 4 altogether, had to come home early as it was my lads harvest festival at school, so i managed to get home in time for a quick black pudding sandwich and a shower and to his school, after skinning and selling the rabbits :drink_nl:
  24. i cant recall who i ordered my dog runs and kennels from, it may have been canine kennels but i aint sure, anyway they arrived when i was told they would and i put them up you mention how they are ordered from abroad by the company, that seems to be the standard for most companies, the vast majority of galvanised panels come from belgium Mine arrived in a german lorry driven by a scottish bloke, he lives in Germany and is paid to pick the panels up from belgium and then deliver them to teh UK, he was delivering all round the south east when he brought mine and said he goes to different
