  1. I do like me broodies, been using them for years, it's just not feasible to rear 1000+ a year under them.
  2. Any reviews on the brinesea advance ex 380 ?
  3. As per the title, I am ever increasing my flocks, and time to invest in a new incubator, what do you all use, I much prefer bantams but simply cannot keep enough to hatch everything, hence a new investment. I have been offered a brinesea advance ex 380, it's the fully automatic humidity, temp and turning, but are they any good ?
  4. Ducks = shit. Simple as that really, but yes I do keep them for meat and eggs
  5. Rustled.... More to the point, why did you register them in the first place ?
  6. True about the bantam broodies my light sussex are a pain but the leghorns dont go broody and lay well in the winter months.I don't mind them going broody as am always wanting to hatch something, they are great Broodies, one even sat on a nest for 9 weeks without an egg, ended up putting a few day old ducklings under her to get her out, she took to them instantly and still goes round the field with them in tow, she don't look happy when they go on the pond though ! My leghorns never seem to go broody either, and yes they do lay all year round
  7. I have a trio of cream leg bars and the eggs are spot on, RIR, Sussex, all good layers and pretty hardy birds, I also have some hybrids and they lay like mad, but have noticed a lot of variation in temperament, some are docile and friendly, some become almost wild and cannot get near them (that doesn't bother me as they put themselves away every night). I wouldn't go for bantams if you only want eggs, all mine seem to live for been broody for a good part of the year, so no eggs from them, I have one leghorn thinks it's a parrot and always wants to be on your shoulder, real personality to it,
  8. I have an old Howard, no seat though, how about a trailed seat on a single axle with beam drawbar ? Real nice idea, I like it.
  9. Nice one, that's a good bag for a mornings work, well done, out of interest, how you get on netting along a hedge, every time I tried it the sods bolt and run along the hedge, never break cover so I given up unles I can get a gate through the the hedge somewhere as well. Ps, that's one cracking looking dog
  10. Excellent read and good on you for doing it, impressed isn't a good enough word.
  11. I was only ever planning 6 chooks for a few eggs !
  12. What did you get 1st turkeys or chickens I'm amazed. Chickens, then ducks, then geese, then more ducks, then turkeys, then more chickens, then more turkeys and so life goes on, what do you find amazing ? The odd chook dies, probably one a year or so, never lost a turkey since I started, except the b*****d that flew off ! I also used to keep some table chickens, ducks and Guinea fowl, will be getting my next lot in a couple of weeks.
  13. Might have been double figures if it wasn't for that dog Rich. At least your landowner has an excuse for being off a footpath which is more than can be said for the b*****ds who frightened off my stag! That tenant took some patience.... Especially when she was telling the person at the end of the 999 call that, as well as being 'armed and dangerous' I must also be responsible for all the dead badgers she's been seeing on the roads... Grrrr! The next pricket is yours Tim...! How did that all come about ? .. Lack of education on the general public !
  14. No worries pal, they are all on about half an acre, they are housed together in a brick built shed with concrete floor, modified with nest boxes and perches, shavings and chopped straw on the floor. Currently 18 Norfolk black and heritage bronze turkeys, two geese, half a dozen ducks, and about 50 odd chooks of all manner of varieties, they eat, drink, sleep and shag together, and to be honest, I have kept them like this since a kid, so over 40 years now, and my parents done the same before that ! I will be honest though, I am considering separating them soon, only as the turkeys just won
  15. I been keeping them like this for many years and no problems, I also know others who have done the same, yet have heard the stories it won't work.
  16. The river fal in Cornwall, (Mylor) I had a 11lber last time I was down, was almost jet black as well,
  17. i sent you a pm offering you a new one for £35 posted but you never got back to me You sure it was me ? I don't have any pm's from you, and can't ever remember considering one before
  18. I would give one a try, if you pm me your details I will sort payment
  19. Couple of tips if I may, quiet, as quiet as you can be, rabbits don't like noise bumping around up top and often won't bolt well if you been stomping about, and locator, much much easier with one if you need to dig, nothing more disheartening than loosing a ferret when you first start out mate.
  20. Think yourself lucky mate, been pissing down here all day, spent most of it in the workshop making a fox trap. Fecking windy too, thought I was gonna loose the roof at one point, are those 6.5's affected much by wind ? At least you dropped one, better than watching all the shite on tv !
  21. Looks like the dog spotted another one you missed ! Well done though, another one grassed and a good weight as well, you soon be hitting that cull target
