  1. Sorry guys, been trying to add a pic or two of the pond but keep getting told it's too big !
  2. I would take a pure guess, knowing our country there will be some law against catching and releasing them in a new area, I would imagine they would stand the same chance as the frogs.
  3. Yeah I need to educate myself about them as not ever having any, I know feck all about them yet.
  4. Yeah, I want them to do well, to the point I will even forget about koi if it means the pond is a good habitat for them, I already got wild duck dropping in regular now, this pond won't be shot ! Can't say the same for the other ones thoughI love seeing nature at work, keep looking for spawn but not managed to see any yet. Will try and get some pics over the next few nights, not tonight as I am soon of to Southampton to collect the plucker I bought ! Ducks hoover up newts like there's no tomorrow.......get the mallards flattened IMO...(obviously when they're in season of course!) Nice t

  6. That's probably my downfall, I don't deal with any local butchers, mainly as it's easier for me to do a load and put them through the market, I've, if I don't have enough time to pluck and dress chickens, they go in as long legged, if I have time to pluck and dress they go to private customers I have. To be honest, all game either goes straight to the game dealer for peanuts but no hassle, he keeps a book and pays up when I ask, (nice kitty builds up every few weeks) or it goes into auction market, sometimes get more than top dollar, sometimes not worth the effort, but I enjoy it and it means
  7. Fish! TC And plenty of it I hope. I have some birds coming on for the table, so duck, chicken, partridge, quail and Guinea fowl soon to be added to the freezer. Really hoping I get some piglets in the next week or so to bring them on, although they won't be ready till towards Christmas time. Then all the goodies from the allotment, gonna be a busy year again, bring it on.
  8. Thanks, I am sorted now.
  9. No idea Neil, some are very small, about an inch long and a light brown colour all over, some are quite big, maybe 4 inches, I would say the biggest was about 4-5 inches in length and jet black, with bright red underneath, I remember seeing the black ones in a pond on the farm where I was born, but not seen them for probably 30 years. They are really active at night, I use my lamp with a red filter on as that doesn't seem to bother them, very fascinating to watch, they come up and seem to breath air, then go back down and crawl about on the bottom, didn't realise they were so fascinating.
  10. Agreed, but which ones are any good, I been looking at some.
  11. Does anyone know anything about them ? I have discovered one of my ponds is alive with them. Long story short, I moved in last year, and have several ponds, all pretty neglected, all old ponds, the one nearest my house was horrible, stagnant, sludged up to the eyeballs, trees and branches in it, it was about 8 foot deep in the middle, but had approx 2 inches of water in it, the rest was just a black sludge/silt, it's surrounded by trees and never been cleaned out, anyway, I went around it and cut some of the trees back, then got my digger and dug the margins out a little, 'poured the silt
  12. Ha, I have been trying to bait a couple of foxes for the last few weeks, I have to date used, a whole chicken in feather, untouched, I open said chicken up so guts and stuff hanging out, untouched, a whole turkey in feather, untouched, I ripped the breast open, untouched, I ripped the guts open, untouched, a whole rabbit in the fur, untouched, I opened the rabbit up, untouched, I have tried fresh fish, untouched, smelly fish, untouched, dog food, untouched, I have seen the foxes within 3 yards of the bait, but crucially they will not go in the trap, I smeared the trap with blood and guts to gi
  13. That's rich telling him to go do some research, your the one who didn't know you needed a licence that is free ! Yeah it's harsh what they done to you, and may not even be in the best interest to have prosecuted you, but that's the law pal, and had you done some research yourself you would have known that and could have avoided it all ! Am with decker on this, I researched it, I got the licence, and landowners permission, no reason not to do it. Oh and for the record, it's easy to gain permission for crays, every fishing club in the country wants them gone, I have clubs approaching me as
  14. Ha, oh you cannot make a statement like that without going into more detail, I hope someone got a pic as well !
  15. It will be in rye, I have a mooring there.
  16. Wish they hurry up and move north, Scarborough Filey area would be far enough. Your welcome to the bloody things, I I will try and send them north !
  17. Good read and some quality pics, I always admire the markings on the munts, even though they are like vermin around me, I still think they are pretty.
  18. They will eat things like frogs, newts, and small mammals, same as most snakes
  19. Well, this is a highly debated subject. I have tried it, I can easily live my life without it, it just slowed me down to the point I felt useless and not in control. I run my own company, I need to be sharp every second of every day, weed ain't no good for me, it may suit some but not me. As part of my company, I often hire in new labour, you should see some of the wasters that apply, pot heads, I can see them a mile off, last one didn't even know the difference between a cup of coffee and a cup of tea when he was given one, forgot things in seconds, the lights were certainly out f
  20. You went the same route as me, Right down to asking a mechanic mate.I would say my ranger knocks spots off the hillux for comfort and not been basic, and I as told the navara engines were bad past 2010 Bf don't make the tyres in my size, so I am goin with the coopers when I change mine, a lot of the off road boys are moving over to them now. get the stt set, theyre spot onExactly what I got my name on.
  21. Sounds good, I am very limited by tide where I am moored, so it's either a 10-12 hr trip, or a 3-4hr trip, I usually opt for the longer one ! I had to do all new ribs and stringers in the Wilson, I replaced the deck as it felt soft in the odd place, had been standing for a few years full of water, so all the foam ribs were sodden
  22. Did you make all the mounds and do the top sides yourself on the tremlett? I built a few boats now, ranging from 14 foot up to 30ft, I quite enjoy glass work.
  23. Yeah I have used it on a few jobs, it certainly holds up to the traffic well, there is also a plastic alternative that's not as 'in your face', and once it's established then it works a treat, I done a school car park last year with it, took a while for the grass to get growing and knit it all together, (can't drive on it until grass is established) but now I regularly go past and see 7.5 tonners on it, and it looks as good and level as the day it went down, called acro ground guard I think, reckon mine came from keyline Ps, what ever you use, don't get suckered into retail prices, they h

  25. Good on you for giving someone the opportunity to get out.
