  1. great start for a young ferret hope my young one takes off like that
  2. I think its more a case of what you can get hold of. Any manure is handy and preferably free. I have access too pig but need to bag it up and plonk in the car which don't go down well. Then some fella bags up horse manure and puts by his gate which is very nice of him. Then there is a local farmer who delivers half a trailer load for 20 quid but at least then you can be liberal with it. I got a full load as I have two plots so that should do for a couple of years and I will top up with free stuff. I also take all my peelings backup and throw in a compost bin so goes back on as well
  3. I disagree with this. As a parent you are there to nurture, to guide, to advise, to correct and to provide an example to your children. This isn't a random "lets see what happens with them" situation. they're your children and should be brought up with basic values of wrong from right. I can tell you now 100% my son won't be smoking a cigarette in front of me (he's also 13), he knows the score and although our friendship is second to none he knows I'm his father not one of his mates. In front of you and in the house of course but once his round the corner with his mates if it
  4. You can't stop kids from doing sod all at the end of the day you can but advise. They make there own mistakes or they don't you just got to go with the flow
  5. Do you not get a problem with pigeons terry if you dont net on ours the cabbage etc gets hammered. Yes there is a lot of pigeons there and if I have not netted some thing they soon strip it. But they seem to have skipped that plot for some reason. I will have an experiment next season
  6. Few pickings today pulled up the sweet corn and dug over. Still got one more small patch of corn that was planted a bit later. Does any one know what the flowers are in this picture ? I have read about this companion planting lark but never tried it yet. But this person has a plot full of these flower and a few rows of brassicas that are not netted or protected in any way and they are in perfect condition.
  7. Some great stuff there whatdog very nice. My outdoor toms went from green to rotton mostly blight
  8. Do you have a longnet bobza ? I assume maybe not because that would give you some nice clean rabbits so you could bump the price a bit if you have any venues suitable. Just a thought and good luck anyway
  9. I wouldn't have enough plastic/weed fabric to cover every thing so I only worry about any patches that I know are prone to run wild with weeds. Or have all ready run wild
  10. wear a tutu if it makes you happy who cares
  11. I think it is best to let them dry on the plant as long as you can then get them in to finish drying. This is from the realseeds web site To collect the seeds, allow the pods to mature fully on the plant until they start to yellow and dry out. In wet weather, collect the pods individually as they get to this stage. Then spread out somewhere out of the rain with a good airflow until the pods are fully dry and brittle. Once they are dry, shell out the beans and dry further out of the pods. The beans should be dry enough that they break when you bite on them, rather than leaving a de

  15. thought sets were for badgers gaz not that it matters a hole is a hole
  16. That is brilliant when a young dog marks good for you both
  17. When my eldest daughter went to uni it was like some one had died lol I was gutted as she is great to have around. Got used to it now mind and she comes home often. I like giving her veg from the plot and baking stuff for her to take back. Still got two at home yet though. But I can imagine it being weird having an empty house
  18. Oh and I have a strawberry patch that I discovered by accident if I cover up over the winter all the weeds die and when I uncover the strawberry plants have survived and get a nice clean start. you can just make out the plants after uncovering then they take off for the spring
  19. In my case it just so I can forget about that patch and come spring when I uncover it will be weed free. That particular plot I still trying to get on top of weed wise and the plots either side are neck deep in weeds so its hard to keep it clean. My other plot I have had a year longer so its easier to maintain. Also come spring the soil under there will be warmer so there is that advantage too. Down side the mice love it lol
  20. True that's why marathon runners build up to the long run a few weeks before the event because you wouldn't want to be doing it constantly. So you try and peak on the day.
  21. Ah yeah! That makes sense... Tongue back in and on... Got that sorted! I was just thinking when I started running I used to need an hour to get over it lol but as I got fitter with in a minute or two the old heart rate was back down and I wasn't sweating like a pig. I just noticed after a big hill or what ever my breathing settled quick and seemed a guide as to how I was
  22. when it gets its wind back quick ?
