  1. Some thing I have been meaning to do I know a small wood that has clumps of cover along the top and twice the lurcher has marked one particular patch and I lob a stone in and a rabbit has used the same route each time to nip across into the wood. His in for a surprise the next time he tries it

  10. he looks a proper little beast! He wasn't scared of any thing that's for sure. He had a great working life at it all the time. Got a nasty stomach tumour in the end and I remember the day I made the last trip to the vet he was sitting on the passenger seat and I leaned over he gave me a big lick on the chops. Probably because I needed a wash lol but it was a sad day
  11. you could try and find some hazel to get you going. Then cut some more once the sap is down to last you
  12. this is in the guinness book of records The farthest distance that a lost pet dog has found his way home occurred in 1979 when Jimpa, a labrador/boxer cross, turned up at his old home in Pimpinio, Victoria, Australia after walking 3,218 km (2,000 miles) across Australia. His owner, Warren Dumesney (Australia), had taken the dog with him 14 months earlier when he went to work on a farm at Nyabing, Western Australia. During his trek the dog negotiated the almost waterless Nullarbor Plain.
  13. looks nothing like a cat but handsome animal
  14. I think the problem is now a days if you dog is laying in to some ones cat unless on your own property the dogs out of control and that could cost you. The potential is all ways there for it to end up in someone's back yard dong the deed and it could be there pet. Also a lot of farmers like there cats and its not a good look your dogs eyes popping out there head eyeing up the farmers cat. Lots of potential for problems so would make sense to steady them I think if possible. Mines not but I am working on it as best I can. Its a lot harder than sheep because cats seem far more attractive to hi
  15. yes if you take your eye off the ball there's all ways some thing waiting to eat every thing
  16. I definitely don't want my dog touching a cat so working hard on getting him ok with them. Trouble is If want to show him sheep I can jump in the car and go visit some. Not so easy with cats just got to make do with the ones legging it across the road in the village of sat in some ones drive. At the moment its safe to say his not to be trusted with them but we will get there
  17. this was mine really was a super dog. Did it all and bright as a button. Couldn't fault him apart from his issues with the great dane next door. super ferreter good digging dog too
  18. Raspberries keep coming well chuffed only a few at a time but they mount up. Should be really good next year Might have jumped the gun but got me garlic and broad beans in. Picked the best of the bulbs as I had some nice ones this year pulled the netting back and did some weeding. Lots going on under there swedes not as good as last year but hopefully they will fill out
  19. very very interesting. Somes dogs seem to have a great sense of direction and you never have to worry about losing them as they all ways seem to know where you are. Mine when he was 5 months took after some some sheep (gloss over that bit) I couldn't find the sod any where and I gave up and was standing by the wood edge and I heard a rustle and looked over the hedge and there he was some how he made a bee line straight back to me through really deep cover and several fences. Obviously nothing compared to these animals that cover vast distances but nature is a wonderful thing.
  20. I would go back and make a fuss of a few of me old dogs
  21. My mate who knows his onions waits for them to go over then when the weather is right pulls them and lays in the sun for few days. Then lays in trays in his shed .His store right through till the following spring
  22. we don't walk them we run them for maximum affect
  23. seen one my self bloody big black and had pointed ears like a lynx. Would not believe it if i hadn't seen it my self. Been running around this area day and night since a kid and never seen nothing before. Just puffed my way to the top of a hill on me bike and it was crossing the road into forestry and it turned and saw me and gone in seconds
  24. Me too mine tried accidentally at 7 months and got laid up for 4 months as a result and I wouldn't be surprised if it came back to haunt him in later life. But he has plenty of heart so he will do me regardless. But these things happen unfortunately just got to go with it
